What's wrong with E6S?
It is completely miserable to play as melee or tank. Many mechanics force you to disconnect from the boss at awkward times, and unlike most other fights that are designed to force melees off the boss there aren't many great ways to work around it or design strats to regain the uptime. As tank specifically the tankbuster is very likely to just kill you if your co-tank isn't consistent on swaps or if you accidentally get hit on another mechanic. The fight in general is very chaotic and if your group isn't disciplined it's very easy to get hit by something you're not supposed to and die as a result.

Maybe "worst" is too strong, but it's certainly the fight I dislike the most.

I think Eden is very good as FF14 fanservice - although it probably doesn't hit if you aren't as entrenched. But I honestly love seeing the boss redesigns and the music remixes slap. The framing mechanism isn't too great but I honestly prefer it to the Omega raids, and I'm hoping Gaia has a satisfying story.

The Savage fights have also been pretty great so that's likely also coloring my opinion.
E8S is the best savage fight since, oh, God Kefka I think? It's phenomenal.

E6S is the worst savage fight since A2S.

Fun fact about the 5.2/5.3 story that you may have missed: When we see Elidibus's past through the Echo he's looking upwards at all the other ancients. Combined with how small he is when he shows up after beating Seat of Sacrifice, the heavy implication is that Elidibus was a child when the Convocation used him to summon Zodiark. Aside from being incredibly fucked up, this explains a lot - why Azem straight-up left the Convocation over the Zodiark plan (he wanted no part of child abuse), why Emet-Selch made contingencies to help defeat Elidibus (he didn't want the kid to be the last unsundered ancient, going through eternity all on his own), and why he takes the form of the Warrior of Light in the first place (he was a child, with a child's idea of what a hero looks like and does; he's basically turning into his idea of Superman to fight you).

It was nice to bring the focus back to the Ascians with Emmet-Selch, and he gave us a lot of good development for them. I'm not as big a fan of him as some people seem to be - I feel like the Warriors of Darkness might've been more interesting as villains, even - but he facilitated a lot of excellent story moments, so it's all good.
I think Emet is the most interesting villain the game has had to this point! He's certainly miles ahead of goddamn Zenos, who has been rewarded for being a cardboard cutout of a Saturday morning cartoon bad guy by apparently being the focus of whatever the next plot beat is.

The Azim Steppe is the best area in Stormblood and it isn't even close.

If it's any motivation to continue, the lead writer for the Azim Steppe area was promoted to lead writer for the entire MSQ of Shadowbringers, and she knocked it out of the park.

Yeah, the gods don't make too much of a difference and I assume they are a holdover from 1.0. The lore on them is also pretty undefined.
Back when elements were a thing outside of Eureka your choice of god determined your base elemental resistances. They scrapped that system in the transition to Stormblood after somebody on the dev team realized what a stupid idea elements were in an MMO, but they never bothered removing the patron god choice.

There's plenty of lore on the Twelve! It's just not really in the MSQ until 5.3. You'd need to go read the Encyclopedia Eorzea books to get the full scoop, but the Twelve are very much fleshed out at least in the dev team's materials.

What I think it means is that if you die your gear durability still gets decreased, but your durability will no longer go down after an enemy dies until you either clear or leave the instance. This was a big deal in any raid or trial that has a lot of adds - probably the best current example is TEA, where 4 adds have to die within about a minute of pulling. If you have a lot of 2 to 3 minute wipes (very common if you're progging the latter parts of Living Liquid or Limit Cut) your gear just gets destroyed very quickly.

Whoever turns on tank stance first, they're the MT. If you put tank stance on and pull, then the other tank provokes off you, let them have it - never argue with DF idiots. Chances are the other tank is just going to die to something stupid and you'll be back to MT.

In 24 mans, the first tank that pulls is the MT. Try to keep an eye out for if/when they die and be ready to Provoke, but usually if you aren't MT you have adds or something to take care of.

As a general rule, if you're OT then do the first minute or so of the fight with tank stance off, then turn it on. That way if the MT dies you should already have a decent aggro lead on the rest of the party.

TopicSo why did the medical community bungle mask advice so badly?
Not_an_Owl
07/08/20 1:58:49 AM

My understanding is that the medical community initially believed that only N95 masks made a difference in the rate of transmission, and because those masks were and are 1) rare, 2) expensive, and 3) required for medical workers to safely do their jobs the common advice was "don't worry about it". As understanding of the virus and how it's transmitted grew we came to realize that anything that prevents microdroplets from your nose and mouth from floating around the air would help prevent transmission of the virus.

(This isn't a flaw or a problem, by the way - this is just how science works. We had an understanding of the world, new facts emerged, from those facts we built a new understanding.)

There aren't actually safe spots in Savage, because every player will have at least one AoE dropped directly under them. However, the non-tracking AoEs follow the east-west lanes through the arena; if you stand directly on one of the lines separating those lanes you keep your movement to a minimum.

A non-small size of his base would actually turn on him if he did that.
Fuck 'em. If you're trying to get Trump re-elected you need to face some basic truths:

1) Trump's base on its own is not enough for him to win re-election.

2) The longer the epidemic wears on and the worse it gets, the worse his odds become.

3) There are a lot more votes to be won by being seen as actively combating COVID than there are pandering to internet crackpots. This is especially important because if a hardcore Trumper is discouraged, he (and you know it's a he) probably just stays home on election day; but if you take scientifically suggested steps to combat the epidemic and things get better, you might just peel voters off Biden.

This is completely ignoring the moral and ethical arguments behind mandating mask wearing (because you can be absolutely certain Republicans are ignoring said moral and ethical arguments).

Good job, your system just sent MY ballot to my old apartment because my registration wasn't updated. Someone else just received my personal ballot.

Yeah...asking for you to literally just sign your name to confirm you live there is probably a good idea, lol. So, I mean you're really really reaching on this imo.
How long does it take to update your voter registration? Maybe a minute to google your county clerk's office, another minute or two to navigate their site to the appropriate page, then two or three to either fill out an online form or print a paper form and fill it out? Then another minute or two to put it in an envelope, attach a stamp, and drop it in a mailbox? Eight minutes, maybe ten if you're feeling especially pokey that day?

Compare that to how long it would take to get a ballot if you don't move - no time at all, because your address is on file and you don't need to update anything. I would also wager that the vast majority of voters don't move in between elections, and thus the number of people needing to update registration in between elections would be far fewer than the number who would manually request a mail-in ballot every election if given the chance.

I should also say that no-excuse-needed mail-in voting is a very good thing and all states should adopt it (not only on the principle that voting should be easy and accessible, but also because of the very real public safety concerns involved in running an election in the middle of a plague). I'm absolutely in favor of Kentucky making this change, and I hope more states follow suit. However, a) the system could be better, and b) that still doesn't excuse closing 90% of your polling places until and unless you have definitive data suggesting that most of the polling places are redundant.

Unless your jurisdiction preemptively mails ballots to everyone (not "you don't need an excuse for an absentee ballot but you still have to formally request one", but "we will mail every single registered voter a ballot weeks in advance of the election without need for them to request it"), any amount of closed voting sites constitutes voter suppression.

Holy hell Chemist and Bard are incredible. They just have so many tricks up their sleeves. Shinryu got berserked, blinded, then slowly Sword Danced to death. Omega got stunlocked by two singers and then slowly Sword Danced to death. Exdeath and Neo had basically all their offense neutered, then I sat and buffed for a couple minutes, then they got quickly murderized by 9000+ damage Chicken Knife swings. As tedious as it sometimes was getting this party through random battles they just blew away every single boss.

I might try a Classic run before the Fiesta ends, but every single year I finish one run, register for another, and then just completely lose all motivation. So rather than burn out I think I'll just let FF5 sit for a week or three.

I just had the dumbest Soul Cannon battle. So after I killed the launchers I got into a rhythm where I'd get in a round of attacks on the cannon, it would charge for Wave Cannon, I'd Hide, Wave Cannon would whiff, and I'd come back out to repeat. Everything was fine until I got a point where the cannon would flash and "Ineffective" would pop up after every attack I did. Turns out the cannon's self-destruct is coded as a physical attack, and because I'm playing the SNES version the bug with Hide still exists and makes it so the cannon couldn't actually use its "you depleted my HP, time to blow myself up" script. I figured out I could just get hit by a Wave Cannon, hit it once, and it would die. That's a fun interaction I never knew about before now!

Honestly guys, unless the economy makes a swift turnaround, or some scandal pops up for Joe, Im starting to think Trump could throw in the towel before November 3rd.

He can claim the system is actually rigged, make a big stink about mail-in voting, and step down without having to get blown out in an election against Sleepy Joe.
I don't buy this. Campaigning is the one part of being President that Trump unambiguously likes. There's no way he would ditch a single day of the campaign, even if he's guaranteed to lose.
