It's a prescription drug. No doctor is going to prescribe you a lethal dose. The lethal dose thing is just completely irrelevant. It's missing the point entirely, which is that they don't know if the drug even works for Coronavirus. By focusing on irrelevant aspects people get bogged down with needless information and it feeds Trumpers fake news persecution complex. It's just a bad take.

I hate Trump and co, but this is correct. You can't dismiss the drug on it having a lethal dosage, that's pretty meaningless. Unless Trump literally told people to take a lethal dose of this stuff it isn't relevant because no one would be prescribed that much.

Now the fact that the FDA doesn't know if it would even be effective, that's the thing they should focus on.

other drugs have a higher lethal dose

It's been tested in the sense that it's FDA approved. Off-label uses of approved drugs are legal. The article is questioning its safety. It's safe enough that it's preventatively prescribed to children to prevent malaria. The issue is whether or not it's effective.
