Sometimes I think it's to drag others into the misery that is parenthood. The nice moments with kids are few and far in between, I'd much rather volunteer for a big brother/sister program

So ok, you don't want them doing this. People bitched when they marched and blocked traffic. Decades of peaceful protest and attempting to work within the system has gotten only more people killed. They also got no results. Cops still murder them and face next to no repercussions. People got mad at Kaep when he tried to make a public statement by kneeling during the anthem.

You claim ground has been made and that this will set it back. What progress has been made. Blacks are killed by the cops in some cities at a rate that outpaces the murder rate. The police still target poor and minority communities at a higher rate. They target poor and minority individuals at a higher rate.

I live in a diverse suburban neighborhood about 10 minutes south of what is considered the city of Saint Louis (it's essentially one big sprawl, in a normal city where I live would be considered the southern part of the city). I can guarantee you that there is same amount of drug use in the neighborhood as there is in one of the city neighborhood the cops like to roll through and shake down. Teenagers with pot or heroin, adults popping pills. You name it, we have it. But the cops don't roll through here and take people down. It's a middle class neighborhood, they don't hunt here. These are people who can afford lawyers and avoid jail time. So they leave them alone. Poor people can't, so they roll through poor neighborhoods and bust them for doing the same shit they are doing in middle class areas because the best they can get is an overworked public defender who will tell them to take a plea deal, and bam into the system they go. The cops can say they are cracking down on drug offenders, the DA can say they are putting criminals behind bars. The private prisons keep getting their cut and everyone is happy. Except the guy who now has a felony possession charge on his record and won't ever be able to get a real job, so he's more likely go into other forms of crime now to put a roof over his head and food on his plate. Is it overt violence in the way that was enacted on George Floyd? No. It's a longer term form of violence that destroys families and lives over a period of time. And it's just part of the complex system that's in place to fuck over the poor and minority groups. That alone is bad enough. But in the last decade they've ramped it up now to involve more and more outright murder. Solving situations with guns that for anyone else would be tazed or deescalated through normal means.

What then is your solution? Seriously. What do you think they can do that they haven't already done to get the police to stop murdering them in broad daylight? These are people who are filled with rage and desperation, they feel like they have nothing more to lose. Don't forget that the first two of these protests were peaceful. The police fired teargas and rubber bullets at them. When your peaceful march is met with unwarranted violence the only way to meet that is with violence in return. It's sad, but it's a fact. You will never appeal to the better nature of your oppressor. They don't have one. No one has ever gotten a boot off of their neck by asking politely.

There are plenty of people who went from rags to riches so this isn't true. You may not make billions but you don't need to be a billionaire to be happy nor successful. The bar to have a comfortable living is pretty small.
