My indian boss is openly racist about chinese people. I have a chinese collegue who gets ragged on pretty commonly by her.

Anyways, someone used an acronym he didn't know in group chat. He asked what it stood for about five minutes later. She was then pretty rude to him (not racist this time or anything) over group chat and then afterwards she said:

With netflix stock 6x'ing, apple 3x'ing google 3x'ing, facebook 3x'ing, it seems like anyone whose compensation was ~100,000 in company stock and worked for four years would have had a ton of gain and not be touching their initial stock for a few years.

It must be weird having all your coworkers be young millionaires. I guess this doesn't apply to anyone new, but anyone whose been at the company for a few years.

Risk/Reward I guess, CS degree you could end up with 80k or with 200k. Even if I was paid in company stock I'd have switched it to an index fund as fast as possible.

Congrats. The Silent is fun enough once you learn her a bit. Never did like the Defect though and havent played the 4th character.

Still not really comfortable with silent. The only pathways to victory I really see are poison and shiv + relic. But hey, I finished a run, took about 15 tries, usually died on first boss. Made it to second boss time before winning.

College isn't there to educate you. It's there to teach you to act a certain way sort people into careers, and gatekeep careers. I learned a lot in my physics and math degrees, but I would have learned more significantly more physics and math on my own. I did learn how to have a personality that physicists get along with, learned to say the secret phrases, and have the opinions you expect a physicist to have. Having a lot of interaction with your professors and classmates is extremely important, even more than getting great grades.

Grad school was a joke. When leaving I told my department head that I haven't had such an easy time since high school. They still love me there because I have papers with almost every professor >_<

Some of my coworkers (we move cars from branch to branch at a rental car company whose name I won't mention) have come in with tee shirts, shorts, no socks, and shoes on their feet from time to time (this was pre-Covid). Nobody really says anything, though, since we're outside most of the day and rarely have any contact with guests (customers). Anyone in a position above us, however, is forced to wear 'company approved' attire, which is mostly black (with a little color thrown in), no matter how hot it gets outside, unless it's a 'casual' day or some other occasion.

I remember when I was a student/resident I'd come into the clinic at 10:00 PM after everyone was gone after drinking, barefoot, swim suit, a gym shirt, and I'd bring my cat and let it run around the clinic. Only to help students troubleshoot though when the accelerator was misbehaving...us, security, and custodial commonly only ones in the building.

Not related to current 'appearance' issues which aren't physical appearances.

Personally I do not disagree with the idea of a dress code even if employees are not dealing with clients/manufacturers in-person and that is because some coworkers kind of took it too far on several occasions.

Nothing to really do with a dress code on this one. People are clean and dress professional. I do know what you're saying though.

I think it's starting to take a mental toll. I remember when I made topics about my first research advisor back here in 2015/2016...same life patterns. Waking up too early, going to bed too, late, full stress, achy body...constantly in that post-migraine feeling. I got seven non-essential texts after 10 PM last night. Actually I wonder if it's cultural, my first advisor and current boss were both same nationality.

Partially. I love the area I live in now. I don't really want to do a PhD in the field to end up doing the same work at the same pay. If I stick it out to boards (which keep getting postponed) I'll be able to get more money when job hopping. If I hop now it'll be much harder to find a job if I hate the second place.

The contract in the 200k Ohio job got bought by another company, keeping an eye out but don't see it.

The Oklahoma job is a paycut of 22k a year, realistically more than that because I expect to get an additional 20k or so if I job hopped in a year or so...I also would be required to do a PhD while working full time, but could probably work on it 3 or so hours a day during the job at least. A PhD is just a lot to end up doing pretty much the same work just changing out a day of the clinic for a research day once a week.

As in physicists appearing like we all agree with each other, are organized, have control, and are hardworking. Physicists are just generally disliked in the clinic, I believe it's because we're paid well but don't usually generate work, just judge if other people's work is acceptable or not acceptable.

Keep in mind we aren't dealing with patient's directly or sales or so this isn't appearance to customers or clients. This is appearance to our own coworkers. The problem is, 20 year olds and grandmas with associate degrees are reporting 50+ year olds with PhDs for coming 5 minutes late or forgetting to click 'approve' on something small. These reports go to multiple of my 60-year-old boss's supervisors and it makes her look bad. So now I get to focus on my posturing...at least she's being explicit about it.

My boss is also limiting our use of critical software because she thinks we're using it too much.

We use it a lot because it's critical. An hour a day is a great average...but an hour in a single session as a limit is crazy.

The emergency instructions were missing off the page, like my coworker decided to print only the first out of two pages (first exam second emergency instructions).

I have never seen the emergency procedures written out, so went and asked my boss and coworker for the procedures over group chat. I don't feel entirely comfortable with them as I was verbally told them once and very quickly a year ago, and my residency entirely skipped over them.

My coworker says I don't need to see them because I should have them memorized and just sign that I did. Then my boss sent a smiley face and said a couple times to get it there immediately...once she even said it five minutes after she received it.

Usually just moving small image files (usually kB, a couple MB at most). But I can add a file then delete a file on one computer, and then move to another computer and open the shared folder and the deleted files will be there, then I refresh and they're gone but new file isn't there, refresh again new file isn't there, leave folder and come back and new folder is there.

I don't understand the behavior because I don't work in IT...despite what my management may think.

So I played again and won. Nice, twice in a row. Now Ill move onto the next character. I dont understand how people talk about it taking 20-30 hours for them to finish their first run...I mean I play a lot of mage knight I guess.

Beat my first game. Unlocked fourth character. Was taking screenshots And you know what happened? Game glitches out on me and crashes, no part of run was saved.
