The fact that it took a year is kind of irrelevant. Lots of murders can take longer than a year to secure a conviction. The fact that they did it all on their own is the important part. We know what would have happened to Chauvin if left to their own devices. The answer is nothing. He probably wouldn't have even been fired.

Excellent point.

People have to raise an uproar to even get a trial for these killings and even then, there's no guarantee that the cop will serve any time.

Yup. My girlfriend doesn't even want to go into work anymore with all the craziness going on but she can't quit and she's being exposed to the virus every day she goes in, and the virus just started hitting close to home.

She has a paralyzed mother and a sister with diabetes she has to take care of, so the whole situation is fucked.

You're missing the point.

The media is going to cover whatever story they can milk for the longest period of time.

When a black cop kills a white woman, as a society, we already expect that cop to be justly punished. And what happened? Less than a year later, that cop was found guilty and put in prison.

We cannot say the same for when a cop unjustly kills a black person. We still have have several highly publicized incidents where the killer is roaming free to this day.

You brought up ONE incident where a white woman was killed by an officer, and yet her killer is sitting in jail as we speak. YOU chose this example, not me. That is not a good argument to support the idea that nobody cares about white people getting killed by police, IF that is the argument you're trying to make.

It also can't be stated enough that going back to work also puts you at higher exposure to the virus.

Many people are gonna be forced to go back to work, only to have to leave 2-3 weeks later because they got sick.

Here in Texas, shit has only just begun. The unemployment benefits expire next month, yet somebody that works in my leasing office tested positive for it a few days ago.

I didn't watch the full video, but I think it is pretty ridiculous we never hear about white people dying from police. There was even a black officer who shot and killed an unarmed white woman a few years ago and it got very little attention compared to an unarmed black person. It was a small blip on CNN for a day two, as a little side story. Then it just disappeared forever.

Probably because the cop that did it is already in jail, though I'd argue that he should serve way more time being that he's a police officer.

The thing is when a white person is killed by an officer, people don't typically try to justify it by pulling out petty crimes the person may have committed 3 years ago or trying to find traces of marijuana in their corpse or whatever insane bullshit they can find to paint that person as a "thug".

BLM isn't just about police brutality, but also about the media (and society's) attempts to dehumanize these people to justify their wrongful killing.

Yea. It feels good getting 1,125 a week now. I was getting 350 a week at my previous job. And Dems are trying to extend it until next year. If that happens I will probably be able to have 25-30k in savings after living pay check to pay check thanks to corona.

I think the focus on Wal-Mart is a false tunnel. If these people had local shops supplying them with what Wal-Mart does, they'd still be stealing. In some cities they were doing exactly that.

On the contrary, the timing is almost too convenient considering this happened right after that viral image went around showing that Qal-Mart only locks up black hair products.

Something I will never understand: the idiotic self-harm billionaires inflict upon themselves. As the general population becomes poorer, less innovation occurs. Fewer small businesses open, and fewer inventors are able to put cool products on the market.

If I was a billionaire, I would be pushing so hard for redistribution of wealth even out of purely selfish desire for more interesting stuff to buy.

Hell, if all the billionaires banded together and dedicated half their collective fortunes to some pie-in-the-sky project (for instance, extreme life extension, or the elimination/mitigation of aging) then they could all benefit from the rewards and not see their lifestyles change one iota for the worse.

It's pure, distilled greed. They want money for the sake of having money. They don't even seem to realize that they could selfishly benefit from a wealthier society.

It's so absolutely mind-boggling. They're trying to be selfish, but because they're so absurdly short-sighted about it, they're missing out on so much potential benefit.

Just to illustrate this point: would you rather be one of the richest people on the planet in the 18th century, or would you rather live a comfortable middle-class life today? I 100% choose the latter. I have access to modern medicine, the internet, video games, all kinds of sights and sounds that the wealthiest people on the planet could never have dreamed of 300 years ago. And the only reason it's all been possible is because we have millions upon millions of people with enough money and education to innovate. Imagine the kind of world we could live in if every single person currently living in poverty was instead afforded a middle-class lifestyle.

We could have eliminated age-related health problems and established a Mars base by now if the billionaires of the world could just be satisfied with a few hundred million dollars instead. No matter how selfish you are, the argument for wealth redistribution still benefits you.

Well of course. The wealthy in this country have always been short-sighted and narrow-minded. It's an unsustainable system we've got going on here, but many wealthy billionaires won't even live to see the effects of it so they don't care.

Yes, and Marvel Studios' smart creative decisions are why they're the top dog in the movie industry while everyone else's cinematic universe is either stuck in limbo or canned altogether.

In case you forgot, they didn't have any access to any of their heavy-hitters until Civil War came out yet they were already a multi-billion dollar franchise.

BTW, Disney has largely let Marvel Studios' operate how they see fit due to their successful track record.
