You get to decide your withholding yourself. What did your tax returns look like?

I don't remember, but I know I can choose my own withholding, and if I'm making a steady salary I would even adjust it to get my refund closer to zero. My allowances were all the usual I think, single and head of household. But when the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was passed, the IRS changed the withholding tables early the next year, which is what shows in the paycheck.

Yup. My girlfriend doesn't even want to go into work anymore with all the craziness going on but she can't quit and she's being exposed to the virus every day she goes in, and the virus just started hitting close to home.

She has a paralyzed mother and a sister with diabetes she has to take care of, so the whole situation is fucked.

The least they could do is enact protections for workers and measures that wouldve prevented the spread in the fucking first place. Its not just the opportunity cost of not making more on welfare, its the opportunity cost of risking your life and financial security for table scraps. Goddamn tone deaf republicans

I was able to pay for a semester of school, keep up with my bills, and help out my mom a bit. Feels good. I agree that the essential workers (my mom is one of them) got shafted hard. The whole situation has been a disaster.

My job laid off 1/4 of our workforce and reduced the hours for everyone else, but not enough to collect partial unemployment. Instead they are paying everyone still working an extra day to help with the 2 days of work we are missing. So now all of the people laid off are making more and the people still working are making less. So instead of keeping everyone employed and reducing hours enough for everyone to get unemployment, they are doing something that results in the employees making less money, costing the company more money, and taking a risk that the people laid off will have moved on by the time they need them to come back to work.

Yup. I take on more risk for less reward then someone(understandly) not working.

Its pretty infuriating and would be soul crushing if I wasn't lucky enough to have good savings/low cost of living right now.
