Definitely the tour for me, even if I can't share what I've seen. I could be content if I just had answers to a few questions.

For example, I really want to know if there's other life out there. Even if I never actually get the chance to meet them and interact with them personally. Just knowing with certainty that they're out there and that humanity could eventually find them and make contact would be enough for me. I could die happy knowing that there is something more, that all the shit we deal with on this planet could be worthwhile and could be building up to something truly amazing. I'd be alright with playing my little part, as it were, because I'd know it did actually mean something.

On the other side, if I saw everything and found out there wasn't any other life, I'd also be content staying here on Earth and living my humble life. If there's nothing else out there, I wouldn't feel like I'm missing out on anything, so I would appreciate more the smaller joys that can be found here at home.

I was going down the YouTube rabbit hole, as I often do, and came across a video of a guy playing Star Citizen:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wp6F3IAdB0

The dude's piloting skills are obviously pretty insane. But it gave me an idea. What about an airplane/starship racing game where the gimmick is that your engine has a limiter and the closer to the ground you fly the faster the top speed you're allowed to reach? I think it could make for some pretty interesting high-level competitions, managing how much risk you're willing to take in order to catch up, or how safe you can fly without losing your advantage.

And let's face it, there would be some fucking EPIC speedruns.

No. I generally just leave clothes lying around. The clean stuff is in the laundry basket where it's been since I brought it back up from the wash. When the basket gets empty, I just throw dirty stuff from the floor into the basket and do a load of laundry.

My room is literally for sleeping and changing. I spend zero time in there outside of sleeping or changing, and my door is always closed to keep our cats out, so I don't particularly care what it looks like. It's functional and there's no mold or cobwebs or anything like that, so I'm good.

Absolutely. Dont know the dudes circumstances that brought him outside during a trip but I feel bad for him. I would allegedly not like being out in public on anything more than half a tab to be completely honest.

It turns out he's friends with a small group of guys that are regulars in the station, and a couple of them came in last night. From what I gathered it was his first time trying LSD. They were all hanging out together earlier in the night, but only a couple of them were tripping. At some point they all decided to leave the house to get food and some more beer, but they ended up getting separated. That's when this kid got in his car, presumably with the plan of either getting food or going to try and find everyone again. Then the cop tried to pull him over and, well, you know the rest.

The one friend was really struggling with the whole situation. Apparently the two have known each other since they were literally 5 years old (early 20's now). I can't even imagine what it must be like to have what started as a fun night with good friends go so horribly wrong so quickly. :-/

Kid got high on LSD, decided to get behind the wheel of a car, got pulled over by the cops, and then tried to flee. He was going just over 120 mph, according to one of the officers. Ran a red light in front of my station and clipped a woman in the intersection. The woman's car spun a full 360 degrees, the front end was just gone, and the engine was literally sitting on the road like 5 feet away from her car. After the impact, the kid careened off to the side, jumped the curb, and slammed dead center into a tree in front of the bank across the street from us. 120 mph to dead stop in an instant.

Somehow, the lady wasn't hurt. Luckily he had hit the side of the front end of her car close to the headlights, and though she had been thrown for quite a ride she hadn't actually gotten hit by anything personally. Just some minor scrapes and bruises. She went to the hospital just as a precaution, but sounded like she was fine. Really shaken up, of course, but fine.

As for the kid, I still can't fathom how considering just how fast he was going and how squarely he'd hit the tree, but he was still conscious and responding when they were loading him into the ambulance. Cops said he's in critical condition, but I think that's mostly for fear of possible head injuries and the like rather than anything more obvious like broken bones or blood loss.

So yeah...I seem to be something of a magnet for drama lately. That's the third incident in the past ~6 months or so. First was the smash and grab, then somebody broke into the Dunkin' Donuts next door a few weeks ago, and now this. Night shift sure hasn't been as boring recently as it used to be. O_o

Our security cameras face the street, so it should have caught everything on camera. I'll see if I can get a copy of the video to share. I only caught it out of the corner of my eye. Just a blur flying down the street, followed by a loud CRASH and a THUD as he hit the car and tree, and then just an eerie silence. I was helping a customer at the time and we both just sorta looked at each other for a second like "did that really just happen?" Reached for my phone to call 911, but I saw a cop pulling up with his lights on before I even unlocked it. I figured at that point that they had been running from the cops, and the officer did confirm that to me a little later while they were taking care of the scene.

That shit was crazy.

I'm one of the few who enjoyed it right from the start, tbh. I got pretty much exactly what I had expected and played for a good while. There were some really useful quality-of-life mods out, too. Sadly, with one of the big updates, the flight controls mod I had been using was completely broken, and trying to fly the ship with KB/M became an absolutely miserable chore. I set it aside for a bit hoping someone would fix the mod, or just make a new one, but it never happened and I just haven't gone back to it.

Like she's actually, genuinely, truly perfect. She never makes mistakes. She's always right. Everything she does is successful. She will always win and you will never beat her at anything, even video games. She will make more money than you do, no matter your profession. She will have more friends than you do, and even your absolute best friend in the world will be better friends with her than with you.

Of course, being that she's perfect, she will adore you and support you no matter what. But people will always look at the two of you as "her and her husband" and never as "you and your wife."

Could you really live in her shadow forever? Could you actually take being a side character in your own life?

i really dont understand why some people think racist or homophobic or whatever bigoted jokes are funny

shock value funny

Absurdity is a fundamental form of humor that has been used for all of human history.

Something can be funny because it seems to be so obviously false to the viewer, but is being acted on as if completely true by the characters.

That's also why it's possible for a joke to be racist, but not necessarily mean the person telling it is racist. Though in this day and age, the people telling them should probably know better.

Show us on the doll where baseball touched you. Seriously though why would you want baseball to die?

Well first of all it's a joke of a "sport" that requires almost zero athleticism. It's actually possible for a player to go an entire game without ever having to run more than 3 steps. That's pretty pathetic, imo. Though I suppose it does make sense being "America's Pasttime" considering how lazy this country is.

And secondly, the season lasts forever. Not inherently bad on its own, but I am so sick of hearing nothing but baseball talk on the radio for 9 months of the year. My driving time instantly gets 1000x more insufferable once football season ends.

Damn_Underscore posted...

sportsball is bad, am i rite

No, just Baseball. Football is great. Basketball as a sport is pretty good, but I think the quality of the product the NBA has been putting on the court in recent years is getting tough to watch. There's basically only 2 or 3 teams that have any chance at all, and the regular season is little more than a formality at this point. Still, that's a problem with the current league/players/owners/etc, rather than a problem with the sport itself. I'm sure things will change with time and it'll come back around again.

The very concept of Baseball as a sport is just terrible, though.

EDIT: Since someone will probably have a go at me for it, I'll mention that I also enjoy sports that aren't a part of the "big 3" like hockey, soccer, and hell even cricket is more entertaining than baseball.
