Well, it's still handled badly. But it's assuming that what will happen is they make us sympathetic with Abby and then SHOCK us by killing Joel, and then presumably reveal everything about her past (I've heard the trans thing is a twist too which literally everyone hates when that happens including people who are trans).

But... I don't think that they'll be able to convince anyone to feel bad enough for Abby to make us want to play as her, even if she were to still spare Ellie?

I saw someone on Reddit make a good point that if this was the story Naughty Dog wanted to do, it probably would be less offputting if its structure was changed.

Pitch this as Abbys game instead of Ellies. have the first half be her hunting down someone who killed her dad, then the reveal in the middle is the person youve been hunting is Joel. Let the player develop a connection to Abby before she kills Joel.

The way its set up now, its going to be really hard to get players to care about a character when the first thing she does is murder someone we like.

From what I have heard, there's some religious cult or something that hunts down and kills people in Ellie's camp (not sure how true this is) and that the trans person, Abby, ends up joining with Ellie because that cult has been messing with her group.

So after they find Joel and stop the cult from killing him, Abby kills him and beats the hell out of Ellie and then Abby decides whether or not to kill Ellie but ends up letting her live, which ends up with Ellie hunting her down and killing her entire group, causing her to lose everything again because she wanted to kill Joel.

Apparently people are saying that Ellie may not be killed by Abby in the end though which I guess would still fit for the story, or it is just when she's supposedly letting Ellie go after killing Joel.

Joel kills surgeon in TLoU1

Surgeon has MtF trans kid

Trans kills Joel near start

Ellie escapes and you play as her for half the game

Switch to playing as the trans for second half of game

Kill Ellie at the end

This is the most basic of the spoilers. That's without getting into a lot of the spoiler parts of the first half. This is just legitimately just so depressing and I can't understand why they would think anyone would want to play as the person who kills Joel and then kill Ellie at the end. This is also without getting into any of the more detailed stuff, but feel free to talk about that too. The more detailed elements are heavy-handed enough to just be a gigantic turn-off too.

The wild thing about this is I absolutely think almost every single example of major leaks in games and film with negative backlash truly had almost no impact on the actual sales of the product.

But this, especially with the pandemic, heavy delays, and the major backlash towards the company's work practices...this leak could hurt sales.

I was going to get it but I won't now. If I actually enjoyed the gameplay in the first game, I may have still, but I only really liked the story in the first game.

52 Issue 29

Okay! So we start off with the Justice Society talking about how Thanksgiving sucks because they're lonely. Aww. A Luthor parade happens and Luthor creates a new Jade, Adam Scott's deceased daughter. His son Obsidian storms the parade and almost hurts people and then a not-Atom Smasher talks about how they don't need the olds anymore trying to tell them what to do because there's a ton of them trying to be heroes now.

On the secret scientist island, Magnus doesn't want to be a part of Thanksgiving but the one girl on the island flirts with him a bit and then Chung Zhu is there again and vaporizes someone for laughing at him. Chung Zhu says Magnus hasn't been trying to make Plutonium Man until the girl flirting with him says he's on his meds and he can only create when he's off them. Dr. Morrow doesn't lift a finger to stop him as Magnus begs not to be taken off his meds and Sivana goes "Thank god there's some evil still left in you Tom. Thought you were turning pansy." lol

Then we discover that the Luthor formula is wearing off according to Steel! All of it has an expiration date!

52 Issue 30

Nightwing and Tim Drake Robin are chatting about how Batman bailed them and Tim says that Dick and Tim should be the new Batman and Robin, but Dick is too upset that Bruce bailed on them. Dick bails after he and Tim find where Batman is and Tim goes to hunt down Batman who is fighting a Ten Eye Finger Man who takes out his demons, meaning there is no more Batman.

The Question is getting more sick and Renee agrees to take him to the hospital tomorrow. Noooooo.

Later, Batwoman is beating up goons and then Nightwing joins her. Yay.

Unfortunately I am so hot in my room I'm dying so I can't sit in my chair and keep reading comics on my computer! I planned on reading a lot more today too.

52 Issue 27

So we start with Ralph talking to Spectre of all people. Sup buddy? He wants him to bring back his wife. But he has to DO BATTLE with Sue's killer, Jean Loring who I think is Eclipso now? Ralph takes Jean to when she killed his wife and makes her watch it over and over and over again. Rough stuff dude. He doesn't end up destroying her though and has another idea to get his wife back.

Some dude name Waverider does battle with Skeets who wants to know where Rip Hunter is and OH MY GOD HE MURDERED HIM AND TOOK HIS ARMOR TO COAT HIS METAL FRAME NO SKEETS!

We learn that Question is going to die from lung cancer. :( Nooooooooo. Renee says "Why me?" and he still won't answer. Oh, and she's putting in some training until she realizes that Kathy Kane is the one set to be killed for Intergang.

52 Issue 28

Seriously, just give us a comic of Renee and Question bickering forever. But they do get Batwoman to come by so they can warn her she might die. Oh no! They bust up Intergang but Bruno Mannheim gets away when they're not looking. "I hate it when they do that." "Tell me about it." Haha.

Oh, it looks like we have Red Tornado having been built and scares off some mob folk before he goes nuts. Whoops. The creator gets arrested now. Double whoops.

And we're FINALLY back to the space storyline. Listen, I don't care about it too much. It's not great. Lobo took the eye of power from a Green Lantern, which I guess works like that now, and he beat it up. The rest of the space folk are fed up with it. That's literally it.

Also, didn't read too much tonight but I'm tired! Tomorrow!

Okay, so I can at least see why Nia Jax screws up a lot of moves. Even if she shouldn't. I can at least understand how she fucks them up.

But what the FUCK is this? You just needed to walk closer and then throw her back against the top turnbuckle. That's all. Runaways Issue 4

So we open with Alex's dad ready to shiv his son in his bed. That's awkward. Fortunately Alex is hiding! Well, sort of. Karoline is flying around and loving her powers. The kids decide to get Molly, and then they decide to check out Chase's place to see if they can find any clues.

And they sure do. A bunch of wild tech stuff including x-ray goggles that Chase uses. lol And then Nico and Chase's parents come by and then try to take them home before the kids start to fight back, and Nico's staff gets absorbed into her body...? Oh, well then. Dino boy comes by too to help. Eventually the kids and dino all take out the parents and then they flee in the van. Oh, and Gertrude's mom calls her and tells her that they're going to hurt Molly. Oh no!

Runaways Issue 5

The adults have the plan set up and then unfortunately Molly begins to come to and her mom is still avoiding just telling her what a damn period is. The kids have a plan too, and Nico kisses Alex before they enact it. Gasp.

So they go in and dino boy takes out one parent, then parents with a battle axe take out Alex, and then Nico's staff comes out of her chest and she uses it to knock out one and freeze the other. And then Karoline's mom (who seems like quite a hard ass) binds Chase and then Karoline knocks her out with a punch using her bracelet. Daaaamn.

Nico confronts Molly's mom and... oh. She was having nose bleeds. Because she's a mutant. And Nico knocks out Molly's mom and then Molly has a freak out. Oh no!

Runaways Issue 6

So the kids try to explain to Molly they're on the good side when Karoline's mom tries to attack them again and Molly force pushes her away into the pool. They take Karoline's mom's ring to decode their fancy book and then they knock out Karoline's mom again.

They drive away with Molly and then Alex's dad calls and there's now a report to find the kids who he framed for the murder of that girl they killed. Oh no. And then supposedly one of the kids left a note saying that they trust their parents and will stay loyal! Oh no! But the kids get to the cave that Chase hides in and he bought a gamma radiation sign to keep people away. Alright, that was smart.

They give each other some dopey nicknames.... and I actually don't know if any of them stick, because I've never heard them referred to by these names. lol

So this is a really good book, and I'm really enjoying it. I'm excited to keep reading! But for now, we're going back to 52 again!

Runaways Issue 1

Well, the first page Captain America says the word r-word (censored on GameFAQs, figure it out). That's how you know this was written in 2003. lol Anyway, Alex is playing an MMORPG based on the Avengers. It's weird. He doesn't want to hang out with these other kids but his parents are making him. Gertrude is an annoying intellectual type, Karoline is an overachiever who can make fajitas, Chase gets his ass beat because he doesn't care about his grades, Molly is 11 and wants to know about puberty, and Nico wants to be a goth girl. Nico is actually the only one I kinda know about.

Good time to mention I've wanted to watch the TV show too!

Alex seems into Nico who says "You're acting all Keanu" which... there was a big gap of time where that phrase would not have aged well, but now it's perfect. The kids are all bored so they decide to spy on the parents, and when they do they have a shady looking party going on. "Do you know what this means?" "Our parents are totally gay." God damnit. lol Chase is quickly becoming my favorite. His lines are so dopey.

Anyway, the parents bring in a girl and talk like supervillains and then proceed to stab the girl and Nico screams behind the mirror they're looking through! Oh no!

Runaways Issue 2

The kids run away and then pretend to play Twister when Alex's mom checks on them. And then Alex wants to tell Karoline what's up and tells Gertrude to take Molly away since she's so little. "I know what you guys are whispering about. S-E-X. I'm not a baby." Haha.

Eventually their parents go to pack up and there's a big chest where Nico and Alex offer to carry it out, and it's likely the dead body. The kids all meet up somewhere and decide what to do. They eventually decide to call the cops who say this would probably work in New York, but now in California. True that. They decide to get the chest from Gertrude's house though to find the body though.

They drive there in Chase's unmarked white van. Yikes. But we do get shoutouts to In-N-Out. They go in the basement and use a keycode to spell out PRIDE (the name of the parents' evil club) and they open up the wall. Oh and there's a dinosaur. Hello. What?

Runaways Issue 3

So the raptor comes out and Chase tries to attack it cause he's stupid and then Gertrude tells it to stop and it does. Holograms of Gertrude's parents pop up and tell her the dinosaur is psychic and they're probably dead if she's watching this and that she needs to find the rest of Pride.

They decide to hide out at Karoline's place since her parents are out of town and the raptor is following them. Oh no. They head there to find a clue but come up short until they find a medical symbol crossed out. Karoline has a medical bracelet on and they tell her to take it off to see if her parents were full of it. She does and then she turns into a really awesome looking alien thing? Like, human but rainbow effects around her and she can fly. Actually a really cool. Major props to the artist and colorist.

The cop from earlier goes and tells his boss that kids called about Pride and his boss tells him it's absurd and he agrees, and then his boss calls Alex's dad and tells him there's a problem. Oh no!

I'm done for the night, but so far it's been really good! This is all vaguely familiar, but I don't think I ever got much further than this before. It doesn't feel like a Marvel book at all, which I kind of like. I wish they went outside the box with stuff like this more often. The first volume has 6 issues, so I'll probably finish this volume, go back to 52, then pop back this this and vice versa until I finish this first run of Runaways! I say this because I assume the rest of this run is good, so I'll probably stay interested and hooked.

Yeah, I do think this could have been much more special if they 1) stopped focusing on Batman so much because if you strip away the Batman focus, you can still more or less have the same story; 2) extended the length of the series to dedicate more time to explaining things; and 4) find a way to reduce on the monologue heavy stuff.

I probably really would have enjoyed this more if it was more cohesive, honestly.

Next up for me will be @MegamanX 's suggestion of Runaways Volume 1! I never read the whole thing but I know it's very good.

Dark Nights: Metal Issue 4

Alright, so Bruce is seeing fake Supermen and he's been in this hellscape for 30 years? Duuuuude. And Superman is being used as a battery too. Bruce fights back with CREATIVITY though.

Team A is Wonder Woman, Doctor Fate, and Kendra. They're fighting personifications of sin. Isn't that Shazam's deal?

Team B is Aquaman and Deathstroke who are just looking down a portal in Atlantis.

Team C is Green Lantern, Mr. Terrific, and Egg Plastic Man who are in Thanagar and they find their ruler, Synn, and... Starro? Is Starro normally like, uh, this? He wants to use the Plastic Man egg to shoot a cannon to destroy Earth. Dude, we have enough going on. And Starro keeps Green Lantern from using his ring.

Back with Batman and Superman, they talk to the Sandman...? Uh, is this the Sandman from Neil Gaiman's stuff? Aaaaaand then he gives us a giant info dump. Jeesh. He basically tells them they need to find the Nth metal in The Forge. And Batman has a new goal and just... fucking gives up? Wasn't it him who decided to push on and find Superman and shit? Why does Batman need a motivational speech of all things, especially when it's his idea? Wtf.

And then Kendra pulls out... Anti-Matter's brain? Where the fuck is this coming from? She goes to use it to destroy the darkness but it could also destroy everything, apparently. And then all of a sudden she turns into Lady Blackhawk? What? And Black Adam is here and vaporizes Doctor Fate? ...Okay...? He demands the brain from Wonder Woman. This is a mess.

We end with the Forge consumed by darkness and then Carter Hall is there as a dragon hawkman. Okay.

Dark Nights: Metal Issue 5

Barbatos and Joker Batman babble on with the words "Anti-Music" and that's all I need to see there. Batman and Superman have to deal with a crazy hellscape at the Forge with stuff from Batman lore there. Aquaman and Deathstroke make it to the center of the Earth where the Nth metal is.

Green Lantern and Mr. Terrific talk about how Plastic Man can absorb dark matter cosmic energy and that's why he's an egg to fight them off. And then Martian Manhunter appears out of fucking nowhere to help now. He helps Hal and Mr. Terrific out of jail.

GL: I'm going to kick that starfish's ass.
Terrific: Technically he doesn't have an ass.
GL: Don't worry, I'll find one.

That was pretty good. Anyway, Batman taunts Dragon Hawkman which is doing something. Wonder Woman finds the mace and smacks the shit out of Black Adam. "What you meant to say was 'Oh sh.......... SHAZAM!'" Sigh. Joker Batman was also unamused because he shoots Wonder Woman in the head and takes the mace. Gj.

Why is Deathstroke making puns in this series? Anyway, Black Manta takes him out and then attacks Aquaman. And I need to ask: why the fuck are they making alliances with people like Black Adam and Black Manta? The rest of the Batman Justice League is there ready to murder Aquaman. They literally don't even need them. And this is even more salient when the rest of the evil Justice League is on top of Green Lantern, Mr. Terrific, and Martian Manhunter.

Then we get the EPIC FIGHT between Wonder Woman and Death Blackhawk or whatever her name is and it ends in one punch after Wonder Woman wraps her fist in her lasso and she snaps out of it. Then they go into a Metal portal and a bunch of dark versions of the characters are there and Wonder Woman tells Lady Blackhawk to scream a war cry.

Dark Nights: Metal Issue 6

So Wonder Woman and Death Hawkgirl are fighting and they bang her bracelet and the mace together to contact the Justice League. Plastic Man emerges and grows giant and then summons goofy stuff to kill more dark metal characters. Wonder Woman gets a pep talk from Black Hawkgirl and then descends into the Forge portal to retrieve Batman and Superman. Because Wonder Woman can see through the darkness and show love and truth and whatnot. It's actually a solid speech. I approve.

Wonder Woman finds them, Hawkgirl yells out to Carter Hall to get him to cool it, and then Detective Chimp comes out of nowhere with a bunch of other world Batmans for all of one panel.

Then the Trinity all have silver Tenth metal armor now which is super strong apparently and then there's flying Joker monsters now and the heroes had a ship that gets shot down and then the Trinity gives Aquaman and Green Lantern the armor too. Oh and Doctor Fate is alright now. Oh and Carter fights back against Barbatos.

Batman goes to fight the Joker Batman who has.... the Over-Monitor. Yup. They fight and then Joker Batman has the gun that killed Bruce's parents and... Jesus Christ. Joker saves Batman out of nowhere. Why is Joker here? How? Who the fuck knows anymore. They team up because of course Batman would never team with Joker and he couldn't plan for that and Joker teams up with Batman because who the fuck knows.

Not-Hawkgirl basically impales herself into Barbados and then the heroes in armor have to all hold hands and sing kumbaya to fix the world.

Everyone wakes up at Wayne Manor where they party and then Kendra explains that Hawkman wrote a bunch of stuff down but he'll be around. There's a bunch of stuff he wrote down about the future where everything is messed up now. They add Hawkgirl and Martian Manhunter to the Justice League and it looks like they're all partying and Bruce has plans to make the Hall of Justice.

End.

Dark Nights: Metal Thoughts

So you can probably guess, I didn't like it.

First of all, I love Scott Snyder. I love the stuff he did with Batman. I think he's a great writer. But what the fuck was this story? So many times I was absolutely lost. There was so much wasted time with meandering monologues from dark Joker Batman or Barbatos or Maybe-Sandman. So many things are introduced out of nowhere and never touched upon again. Overall, this book at its best is when it takes its time to set up everything in the first two issues. Issue 3 it gets messy. Issues 4-6 are just a travesty, with 6 being the worst among them.

This book feels like it needed at least three more issues to flesh out everything. Cool ideas, but ultimately unrealized or dedicated to like one or two panels. I found the entire concept to be absurd to a dumb degree, and the obsession with Batman to be just a ridiculous focus that probably would've ended up better if they focused on a dark metal version of all the characters instead. Like where is the satisfying conclusion for beating the Batman Justice League? They just appear occasionally and there's fighting off panel with them mostly.

In fact, here's a bunch of things introduced and not fleshed out at all:

It's supposed to feel very weird. The whole idea of House/Powers of X (and really, the idea behind all of the X-Men stories since then) is that mutants have realized they've spent decades (or centuries, or millennia) playing by mankind's rules, and all it's ever gotten them is closer to extinction. So they're done pretending they're human and they're done playing by humanity's rules. They're the next step in evolution, and they're damn well going to act like it. So you occasionally get moments like this where mutants behave in a way that seems pretty alien to human sensibilities, and that's very intentional - because these aren't humans with human sensibilities, they're mutants with mutant sensibilities. They seem alien because they are alien, and it's honestly the most interesting take on mutants I've ever seen.

Okay, it's definitely a unique take and I'm into it. It still doesn't seem, I don't know, particularly heroic. But I am intrigued by that intent and curious where it can actually lead.

Anyway, gonna finish off Metal.

Like it sucks for Rusev, but it also sucks for the 16 million other people who are also filing for unemployment right now, too. And the vast majority of them probably didn't have paychecks near what he got. For better or worse he's probably better equipped to handle it than most, not to mention his wife is still employed and collecting checks.

It sucks and it was a shitty thing for WWE to do, but the level of indignation for this seems faker than the business itself.

Like I haven't watched the match, and I don't care if anyone thinks it sucks or not, but Christ.

Edit: To clarify because I'm sure it will get twisted. Criticize the match all you want, but don't conflate it with people losing their jobs and a company doing scummy shit.

Because a lot of these people were looking to have job security, including those who aren't wrestlers, and they got released not because the company is hurting, when they have $500,000 in reserves and are letting people go from their jobs that amount to exactly 1/20,000 of that number so they can appease their stockholders.

I don't care if you just claim to watch NXT, you only want to watch for Royal Rumble or Wrestlemania, or whatever wrestler you claim to want to support by watching, if you are still watching WWE, you are helping a despicable company that does not give a shit about a single person who works for them, and you are continuing to justify them doing horrible things.

Don't watch or support WWE in any way. This is deplorable.

So in WWE's statement today they're bragging about having $500 million in reserves, but they're also saying they are making $4 million in cuts today. So they can afford to pay everyone they're letting go 13 times over, assuming that they're making no money, which isn't the case at all.

Put smiles on people's faces, unless they work for you, and those people are your shareholders.

Keep in mind they ONLY have $500 million in reserves because of a senile old man's vanity project to recreate his failed minor league football company.

Stephanie Coueignoux of Spectrum News 13 and Jon Alba of Spectrum Sports 360 in Orlando are reporting that the Orange County Sheriff's office was called multiple times to the WWE Performance Center in recent weeks. Officials repeatedly told the company it was not in compliance with the existing laws and that the television tapings would have to be shut down. Even after the executive order was signed that deemed WWE to be an "essential" business, police were called to Monday's RAW tapings.

Dark Nights: Metal Issue 1

Hey, we start out with MONGUL! Oh, and the Justice League. But MONGUL! I love that guy! And he has little Toyman as a slave? Weird. They're in a coliseum fighting random shit that Mongul throws at them. Batman does a pretty outrageous Batman thing and hacks the robots they're fighting to make a weird Voltron to escape. That is among one of the more ridiculous things Batman has done. lol

Anyway, they go back to Earth and apparently Gotham has a giant mountain in it now. When they go inside it's a weird place with a bunch of pods inside when Lady Blackhawk comes up with her Blackhawk team and she's... Kendra Saunders? That's Hawkgirl, right? Weird. They go to her fancy island where she talks about how they've been looking into the Nth metal that bound them to repeat lives and such and how Carter Hall had worked with a lot of scientists to find it. So wait, what's been going on with Hawkman and Hawkgirl before this exactly?

Anyway, there's a dark multiverse or something where they've been looking for Batman who swipes the Nth metal while Red Tornado attacks the Justice League. Hawkgirl destroyed her wings and vowed to destroy Nth metal? I need context. lol Oh, and we got five divine metals that they want.

Carter Hall has been narrating everything in his journal and it's been true, and then some Dream of the Endless dude sneaks up on Batman and says "Hey buddy."

Dark Nights: Metal Issue 2

So we open up and everyone's looking for Batman all over the world. Turns out he's in the Amazon marsh! The Bat Family is helping him out and they have a bunch of flowers that piss Swamp Thing off who goes after the League. And then Batman get swiped up in his getaway caravan by Superman who has kind of a homoerotic moment with Bats by talking about his heart beat. lol

Apparently Batman has interacted with the four Divine Metals. Huh. Batman died against Joker? I missed that one. But hey, it's actually Clayface, not Batman! And Batman had something transmitting his heartbeat. Haha, you almost made out with Clayface Superman, not Batman!

Anyway, Kendra goes to... the Legion of Doom? And hey! the guys in the last issue with the visions were Doctor Fate (obviously) and Steel, apparently! And Plastic Man is a key to this too? Really? Anyway, Batman gets conned into going to the wrong tomb to destroy everything with... Baby Darkseid? Fucking excuse me? I need someone to explain this. And the Court of Owls are involved? Hmmmmm. And the final metal is BATMANIUM? OKAY. YOU'RE LOSING ME, BOOK. SUMMONING THE BAT GOD?

Batman gets sucked up by the BATMANIUM and then the portal opens up and a bunch of twisted Robins come out to murder the Court of Owls? And then... a bunch of Batman Justice League amalgams show up...? It looks like Aquaman, Doomsday, Cyborg, Joker, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Green Lantern and then some gigantic mofo behind them.

Aight. This seems silly as fuck. lol Also, I need to know what's going on with Krona too. It seems like they changed a lot with him which is sad to me. Oh, and Superman and Wonder Woman get their asses beat. Whew.

Dark Nights: Metal Issue 3

So we get a dream sequence of the Super Kids rocking out with Bruce, Clark, Lois, and Diana. And apparently Superman has been dreaming it for months as the Barbatos took over the world by infecting people and turning them into monsters or something...?

Superman is rescued by Wonder Woman, but Superman just tries to fight Barbatos but Doomsday Bat intercepts and Joker Bat trashes on Supes. And before Superman can get his shit pushed in too hard, Flash grabs him and takes him through a Doctor Fate portal. They're in Oblivion Bar, apparently, hiding out. They tried to take back Gotham, but it was taken over by NANO-ALFREDS. What the fuck is going on here? Oh, and Jon Snow Nightwing. I forgot about that dumb story. But he was involved in trying to stop them and apparently they lost the Teen Titans.

Wait, the egg thing was Plastic Man? Come the fuck on now. Anyway, they're going to get the last of the Nth metals because they're weak to it. Oh and Deathstroke is there and kills a random evil Robin that's there for some reason. Oh and I guess when the others leave Nightmaster and Detective Chimp just decide to get murdered to death there. Alright.

Steel uses the Anti-Monitor's antennae to open up a portal to the Dark Multiverse and a rough looking Bruce was there trying to tell him to stay away using the fucking 70's Batman song. lmao Guuuuuys. Anyway, Superman gets swallowed up and now him and Batman are trapped.

I am tapped out for the night. lol
