Based on what we've been told about the development there, not surprised at all. Naughty Dog turning into Rockstar 2.0.

OK it was just revealed the game is coming out 6/19.

Really thought this would be pushed to console launch.

Really wasn't expecting the giraffe from TLOU to return as the surprise true antagonist

I was going to say that like FFVII people would cool when they realize the game is super good and the weird plot stuff is actually pretty smart.

But I have read them now.

And I don't know if that is going to happen this time.

He's mad because Ellie has such a potty mouth, remember when Ellie swore in the first game when she saw him and he walked away? He was clearly leaving to plot his revenge.

Naughty Dog must have played the Final Fantasy VII Remake and then thought "Hold my beer."

FF7 at least has a post-modern meta spin you can put on the twist, but I think this one seems like shock value just for the sake of it.

Come to think of it, I wonder if this impacts TLoU's contest strength now. It's lucky it had a match yesterday!

Honestly I am staring at my preorder and going back and forth in my head about how much of my enjoyment of the first game was gameplay versus story, and whether I should cancel.

If FFVIIR hadn't just come out with the dumbest story in the world on paper but actually turned out pretty great in experience, I might have caved here. As it is I will want to experience it first hand.

I looked up a synopsis and yeah that's pretty subversive in a way that feels like a middle finger to fans.

But hey people still like NGE so who knows how it'll ultimately play out.

The wild thing about this is I absolutely think almost every single example of major leaks in games and film with negative backlash truly had almost no impact on the actual sales of the product.

But this, especially with the pandemic, heavy delays, and the major backlash towards the company's work practices...this leak could hurt sales.

I probably wasnt getting the game right at launch regardless, but these spoilers absolutely sealed the deal on that and may keep me from getting the game at all.

I just dont need such an overwhelming downer in my life.

I seem to recall someone at Naughty Dog saying that the Last of Us 2 at it's happiest is still darker than the first game at its darkest. They weren't kidding!

I was going to get it but I won't now. If I actually enjoyed the gameplay in the first game, I may have still, but I only really liked the story in the first game.

I have read zero spoilers, I didn't even like Last of Us 1 that much but I'm still not going to read the spoilers.

I did, however, see a meme and some neckbeards complaining, so I'm gonna guess at what part of the outrage is over:

I'm guessing a young male character who starts out as a friend of Ellie's, becomes incel-y and gets jealous and like attacks her after she scorns him for a woman.
