The extent of my politics talk this Thanksgiving was my grandmother asking if I was a Trump supporter. I said mostly, but I could be willing to vote against him if the right candidate was against him.

She said like any of them exist name one. I said Delaney or Tulsi. She said she never heard of them. I said, yeah, they probably won't be the candidates but who knows.

She said no one should run against Trump and how she thinks buttgieg has no chance because people wouldn't know who would be wearing the dress during the ball and there HAS TO BE A BALL! Lol.

See, that's what I mean when I say it's not actually true. All he wrote in his memoirs anywhere close to that effect is what I mentioned about them not being able to adapt to society, but somehow it gets stretched into that.

Pretty sure he said they weren't as smart as whites or had smaller brains or some shit also. I remember we did a big debate section on this in African American History in college.

My professor was less than amused with me because he created two sides of debate where 1. Was Lincoln was racist and only did what he did because he had to for the union or 2. Lincoln was a good person and freed the slaves because he felt slavery was wrong.

I was on side 2 but my professor got mad at me when I argued that Lincoln was actually racist but it did not preclude that he was a good person and freed the slaves because he felt slavery was wrong either and he in fact did do.

The only parts that are definitively true is that he prioritized preservation of the union above all else including abolishment and that he wasn't sure how well former slaves could adapt to being being in society (but that that wasn't an excuse to continue slavery either).

It also tends to get pushed hardest by the same people who say Lee wasn't racist at all.

He likened them to animals and thought they were lesser beings than whites I believe. Is that just not racist? You could argue, maybe, that he was telling people what they wanted to hear but is that much better?

I am again interested to know how the Trump is more racist compared to his time comes from tho.

Or maybe you are just almost 4 weeks after the fact bringing it up. Essentially he said that Obama only worked hard in office to try and stop Trump from winning the 2016 election. That the Obama Clinton whoever dynasty was toppled.

When he says Obama dynasty he is wrapping them all together as being a part of Obama.

He doesn't think he ran against Obama literally. He thinks he fought against Obama's scheme to deny him the presidency for Hillary (the extension of his dynasty).

The article I read said that 26 of the delegations are likely safe for Republicans and at best Democrats could likely pick up 2 to get to 24.

I just read something interesting.

If the 2020 election is 269-269 and the house voted for the president, even with the current democratic majority that Trump would likely still take the presidency because it goes by house state delegations and not representatives, which Republicans control 26-22 (2 tied) as of now.

Yes, and that swing will get bigger once President Trump is acquitted. I think Pelosi is smart enough to know that a trial will not go well for them and if left entirely to her own discretion would choose to keep the "investigation" going as long as possible so as to avoid bringing it to trial before the election. But a lot of Dems probably will not listen to her at this point and the train has already left the station.

While it's true that the Fifth Amendment rights to due process and no double jeopardy, and the Sixth Amendment right to a speedy trial may not legally apply to an impeachment, they absolutely will apply in the eyes of the public. The result of a trial will, then, be that in the eyes of the public, Trump will be completely exonerated of everything.

Congrats to President Trump for succeeding in being impeached, which is the only way to forever put these allegations to bed.

Damn, I know that is one poll but that's a hell of a swing in polling in Wisconsin. See if it continues.

Impeachment proceedings made Clinton popular. Let's see if it does to Trump also. If it does for Trump too, I don't think we will ever see an impeachment process again tried by the opposition unless it is dire.
