The first half of the episode was just a quick introductory fight, then the second half was the actual beginning of the series showing the origins of how the girls (who by the way are eighth-graders in this anime and not in kindergarten like the original PPG were) got their powers and how the villains became what they are now. It was made by Toei (same studio that made Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, and Pretty Cure) and basically turns the Powerpuff Girls into a magical girl anime. And I'm going to watch it just to see if it was as bad as people said it was, especially now after the 2016 reboot of the actual PPG cartoon made this look much better by comparison. | Calwings 11/04/19 12:56:19 AM #302 | I just finished the final episode of Angelic Layer. Hikaru's last couple of fights were pretty epic, and of course, Misaki was adorable right up to the end. All in all, I wouldn't call it a great series, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. I'll give it a 7.5/10 (rounding up to an 8 on MyAnimeList) for its final score. I also decided which series I'm going to start next alongside Lostorage Conflated WIXOSS. They essentially took the remainder of the manga, which based on the pace of the original series would have taken over 100 episodes to adapt, and crammed it into one final 26-episode season... and it was really good. The pacing was so much better than the snail's pace of the original series, and it gave a satisfying conclusion to the franchise as a whole. The second half of this series has really stepped up the shoujo romance/drama on the side. Outside of Cardcaptor Sakura, I pretty much completely missed out on the shoujo romance anime boom of the late 90's and early 2000's. But between Angelic Layer and (the remake of) Fruits Basket, I'm realizing that the genre has some real gems. Also, I didn't expect to see a beach episode in this series, and I definitely didn't expect to hear 5-year-old Hatoko seductively asking someone to rub lotion on her back, even if she was just joking about it.
