Good news: There are two chances to get a guaranteed S-Rank (highest rarity) character of your choosing. One is completely free by completing a certain line of side quests in an event. The other is an infinite re-roll 10-pull that you can buy for only $10 in real money (which is pretty cheap compared to a guaranteed highest rarity pull in other gacha games) and you don't pay the $10 until you get a roll you decide to keep. Also, every player gets a free A-Rank (2nd-highest rarity) Asuna as a log-in bonus after a couple of days, and I'm pretty sure there's a way to raise any character to the highest rarity at some point.
