Dona I mostly have trouble figuring why people would like the character, but then again I like Leblanc so *shrug On the flip side Braska is plot significant but unmemorable in terms of what the character is. If people started nominating I dunno, Arvis or Madeline from FFVI or Elder of Mysidia from FFIV or Choco Billy from FFVII I'd say the same kinda stuff. None of these are characters I find memorable or particularly likable in what time they have despite having arguably more plot significance and/or characterization than characters like Dona or Isaaru or Braska. --- No problem! | Lopen 09/30/19 2:52:53 PM #314 | A character doesn't need a bucketload of dialogue and screentime to actually establish a concrete likable character, which is the usual rallying cry of the character development elitists who rag on the earlier FF games as though the characters from them are "lesser" by default. But there is some base level they need to have an appeal that makes sense. Like I would save Minwu or maybe Leon but I wouldn't see any sort of appeal to saving Josef despite the lot of em being from FF2. Josef just does less to establish himself as unique and appealing and has a bit less time than the other two. To put it in perspective all of his special moves in Record Keeper involve him being crushed by a boulder because that's pretty much all he does in the game. Braska, like Josef, falls beneath that threshold. He's basically a plot device and I can name about as much about him as I can about Josef. That doesn't feel like exactly the right word I'm looking for but he's more of something that is assumed to have existed and is necessary backstory in the plot than a dude who has any real appeal of his own as a character. It's not his fault per se-- his story just isn't what the game is, but I have trouble thinking anyone who is saving him is really a fan of the character. It's not like someone like Vayne where he actually has enough for me to see an appeal and it just isn't quite enough to work for me-- I literally don't know or remember a thing about Braska as a character and not as a role in backstory. --- No problem! Tidus is like "oh crap what if the summoner dies!!!" As he shows some concern, the temple collapses, as X-Death grew tired of the annoying puzzles and decided to skip them. X-Death walks out with Valefor under his command. Wakka is like "OMG THE TEACHINGZ YOU CAN'T JUST BLOW UP THE TEMPLE YA??" and he and a handful of Besaid Aurochs take fighting stances. X-Death explodes the lot of them with Fire 3. Tidus is like "oh no" and X-Death says Sin's Toxin must have gotten to Tidus and he'll help him get home with his mastery of the dimensions if he can help him get through the rabble between the temples on this pilgrimage without raising too much of a fuss. Tidus doesn't know what's going on but goes along with this terrible man cause he just wants to get home. Lulu also goes along with as a guide as this powerful mage may be able to destroy Sin once and for all, methods be damned. And this is just the first act. Don't you see what a great game this would be? --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

I honestly can't tell you what happens if Braska replaces Yuna other than RikkuxTidus ship probably becomes canon which only improves the game but you know. What if X-Death replaced Yuna, however, now that's a story worth telling that is defined by more than shifting love interests. And the sad truth is Golbez is discount X-Death, really. I like Golbez but that Zeromus cop-out kinda ruins him. X-Death is just pure quality bad guy who has a surprising amount of fun dialogue in the advance version too. And goes without saying that X-Death vs Galuf >>> Golbez vs Tellah. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

This contest is a good deal less interesting without it, which is probably more important than actually finding the favourite ff character or whatever. Nowadays I don't do it more because trading takes more work than anything. Also I kinda prefer to let the cream rise to the top as they say since there are a lot of characters I'd like to see have good runs and it makes the most sense to support the natural strongest than to drag dead weight I like a bit more. Hence why I'm okay doing a trade pact with Charon because that's low work and because I didn't initiate it I'm bolstering the strength of someone who has it without my interference so we're still letting Creamour Guado rise to the top in a normal kinda way, sorta. I'm also reasonably confident that if Gaffgarion outlasts some lesser FFT characters he'll get a little stronger so that's a factor. Later rounds though? Yeah, I'll do it myself. --- No problem! Like would you call me or Nick "casual" X-Death supporters despite us getting him to the top half by being like 90% of his saves. That seems silly. I'd call myself a casual supporter of a lot of characters because I tend to join things that have momentum to shake things up (including Sephiroth in a lot of years-- this one was looking possible to be one had he outlasted Gaffgarion which I was expecting he would), but there were some years in there where I went pretty hard on him and would call casual misleading. Like if you're helping carry a character through the early dangerous boot rounds you're arguably helping more than the later game trader types. --- No problem! Religiously netting 1-2 saves every round (I sometimes trade) can make a big difference especially if they save early and especially if the character doesn't have the most reliable save base like Seph never has (his big supporters do miss rounds) Pretty sure some of those years it was mostly barrel me numbers and I wanna say denzo dragging him through early rounds --- No problem!
