Topicdo u find people who mocks the dead disgusting?

Depends on how legitimately repugnant the person was, or how stupid and immediately preventable their death was.

For the most part, I don't mind talking about a celebrity's flaws when they die. I wasn't particularly saddened by Stan Lee's passing, because while he was on top there were a lot of good artists and writers who were paid a pretty paltry sum by both Marvel and DC. Some creators, like the guy who made the Guardians of the Galaxy, lived in squalor in their later years and died in nursing homes while their properties were adapted into multi-million dollar movie franchises. I think that's a discussion that's worth having respectfully.

And even saying all of that, I understand and respect why people were super upset, and I don't believe in bringing all of this up as an instant "gotcha" move while the body is still warm and while people are still mourning a person that they consider great. We can have that discussion without overlapping and attacking those who prefer to mourn and gush over only the best parts of Stan Lee's life. I mean shit, I was pretty bummed out when David Bowie died, and he has some pretty hardcore allegations and shitty acts against him from the height of his fame - I mourned the guy and respect his music, but once the 2 week grace period is up, I was up to talk about what he did during his life.

Stan Lee was not repugnant, but the comics industry still chewed up and spat out talent even as Stan Lee stood at the top of the mountain. I think that's an interesting conversation to have.

Charles Manson was a batshit crazy murderer who carved a swastika into his forehead. I'm actively glad that this cult leader who inspired murder is not alive any more. There's a lot less nuance here, because the life work of Charles Manson was a lot less nuanced than other dead celebrities. I also don't think there's a lot of constructive things you can say about a guy like Fred Phelps, the guy who led the Westboro Baptist Church to picket the funerals of soldiers and other people they saw as an affront to God. Just incredibly shitty behavior that saw good people in death being disrespected in the direct presence of their mourning families. I'm not going to sit here and be civil about people who themselves didn't respect the sanctity of life, or who cared about respecting the dead. I think their presence on this Earth contributed a net loss to our society, and I find it hard to believe that my point of view regarding these two people can be debunked.

Then we get to this missionary guy.

I feel bad for his family. I don't want his family to be attacked, or for any one person or group to lean directly into "love and respect" or "hate and detest" to the point where folks are getting doxxed or threatened over pointless idealogical internet fights. But I think that the guy was out of his goddamn mind. He thought he had the authority to go anywhere and spread the message of God, even to people who actively did not want his presence. That's incredibly self-serving and entitled to begin with.

He was killed by these people because they didn't want him to be there - he was an outsider trying to force his way into their group and instill his Christian values onto them, and he got needled with arrows by people who didn't want his presence. This missionary guy could have lived until he was in his 90's or whatever, using his time, money and enthusiasm to bring God to people who were more receptive to the idea - instead, he threw his life away to bring the western Lord to a group of people who just want to live free, the same way that they always have. I think his intentions were good, but I heavily disagree with his actions and I think he was deluded and mentally ill.

If his death leads to these people losing their way of life and dragged into the 21st century where they don't seem to belong, then I will regard this guy as a prick even in death. But even then, I'll say that I respect his family and their privacy.

MGSV had fun and rewarding gameplay, I don't regret paying retail price for it for the entertainment I got out of it. The story fucking blew, and I hate what they did to pretty much every Peace Walker character, but I got like 200 hours out of that game so I can't complain about the cash I dropped on it. I genuinely enjoyed my time with this game.

FFXV, from what little of it me and my friend played on his Xbone? That game instantly reeked of being a turd to me. Why Square-Enix won't just chill the fuck out and go back to a more classically inspired battle system, I don't know.

The Completionist recently put out a video about FFX. Its about 40 minutes long because theres just that much stuff to talk about.

I can only think of a handful of unique items

And most are like "this weapon has 3 slots and 2 effects on it but in an order that you can't get from any other 3 slot item that drops because of the order those abilities would appear in"

Followed by celestial weapons

The Sphere Grid is massive, though. He had to max out the Sphere Grid with all characters. That alone would have to take like 50+ hours of grinding.

He also fought all of the Dark Aeons, as well as the superbosses and every unique monster mash-up at the monster ranch in the Calm Lands.

I like games on disc, but there's the inconvenience of having to change those discs. My console is positioned in a way where changing games is an awkward experience. With digital games, I can just pick one out of a list.

I still think physical game copies are important, though. I just really enjoy the price point and convenience of $7.55 PS3 games. I try to buy physical on Nintendo Switch because lugging around carts is a lot easier than storing discs.

Batman vs Superman came out three years ago this February. Plenty of people who have been watching Teen Titans Go have had the chance to see that iteration of Batman's origin story at the start, and it's such an open, oft-repeated aspect of Batman's character that I'd say that a majority of TTG's audience have some inkling as to how Batman got his start.

you're probably better off just selling the bars. mith sets are selling for 6k exactly in the GE right now. the 13 bars needed to make the set are worth like 10k and some change. plus bars are a lot easier to sell than sets overall, you might sell the first 80 sets or so instantly then will have to wait days, potentially weeks for the rest to drip-sell unless you go dirt cheap to undercut everyone else.

I don't get the smithing xp, but this is a good idea for GP. Thanks for the heads up

So my initial idea was to make 1,000 sets of Steel armor. It grants a lot of smithing experience, which I want, and the profit is well over 1 million in-game gold. Goes a long way towards getting another membership bond.

But this approach has its share of problems. To make 1,000 sets of Steel armor, I'm gonna need 13,000 bars of steel. This requires 13,000 pieces of iron ore and 26,000 pieces of coal. That's a lot of mining to do, like I'm talking days worth of mining. The 26,000 coal is one thing, but to then go back for 13,000 pieces of iron ore? That's overkill.

So I looked into other options, and I found an option that takes less time and grants more gp in the long run. The only downside is that it's not worth as much smithing xp.

The current plan? 500 Mithril sets.

The amount of coal stays the same, 26,000 pieces, but I'm going to need half as much Mithril ore as I would need iron ore - 6,500. And the profit margin is better by over 1 million gp. For 1000 steel sets, I would gain 1,817,000 gp - at least with the way the GE is trending at the moment - whereas 500 mithril sets would fetch 3,169,000 gp.

I already have 375k gp in the bank, so with the proceedings from the mithril sets, I would be close to another membership bond.

Hold these scummy fuckers accountable. They'll lay off thousands of workers and close hundreds of stores, but it doesn't matter as long as they get to bleed the withering husk of their company dry one last time. It's disgusting.

This is why people unironically gather behind slogans like "eat the rich" or who make a point to talk shit on "the 1%".

Edit: Though I will say, the second plan seems a lot more tame than 18 "key" executives getting a million bucks a quarter. Keep more people employed, don't overpay the brass.

Tyranthraxus posted...
No one cares about whether or not he shows up to a cemetery for a war that was over 100 years ago.

If he went he'd find some way to give a conceited speech that made it about himself anyway so it's probably for the best that he doesn't go.

I mean, you'd expect a world leader to make a statement on the Centennial anniversary of a world war. Even if the world leader is a fucking buffoon (like, say, Tony Abbott - just to give Trump a rest for a second).

Like the way I see it, we're conditioned to respect our soldiers through the rhetoric of "rain, hail and shine" - they fought in the mud, in the blistering cold, in conditions that led to trenchfoot and other horrific injuries in which extremities would rot and fall off of the body. We're taught that they weathered these conditions to defend the freedoms that we have today, and that we should respect them - that's why people get so pissy at Kaepernick and Anthony Mundine for not standing for their respective nation's national anthem.

And you see world leaders making these trips, in conditions that aren't ideal, in the spirit of "rain, hail and shine". They go because our soldiers weathered a lot worse, so a bit of rain to a world leader is nothing in comparison. That act in itself is a way of honouring the fallen, by taking one day to go out in the cold, muddy sludge and make a speech about the people who defended your country.

And Trump can't even manage that.

Yeah, he'd probably fuck it up like the cheese-brained fool he is. I don't doubt it. But the point is to be there and show that courtesy on behalf of the soldiers who gave their lives.

He showed up to one event with other world leaders, fine. He still dodged an event that even the Queen of England made an effort to be at, and now he's dodging more events that seek to honour the military. That's disgraceful. Isn't this the same president who wants to waste millions of taxpayer dollars on a military parade, to showcase the armed might of the USA? But he won't make an effort to step out of his comfort zone and honor the troops that protected his country, who helped to shape the world in which he was elected President despite being completely unqualified for the role.

Trump would open his fat, stupid mouth only to cram his foot into it, or to read some canned, prepared speech. That's true. But as the President of the United States, as the commander in chief, it's better than nothing.

And as a quick addition - forced patriotism isn't true patriotism, I know. You can't make a person stand for the anthem or force them to exemplify ideals, I don't believe in that. But you have a responsibility as the leader of a country to lead your country in these patriotic activities. As the leader of a country, you should be patriotic and appreciative for your country and the people who fought and died to defend it - you should be the shining example of a patriot if you're running the fucking place. Donald Trump has not lived up to these ideals, and that's an absolute disgrace.

MrMallard
11/12/18 3:02:14 PM

I think this year as a whole has been pretty good for gaming, though. We've had shit announcements, but we get those every year and there have been less exciting titles to balance the scales in the past.

Like sure, Diablo Immortals was a shitshow of an announcement. Fallout 76 has been railed on for looking dead and mediocre, I couldn't tell you from experience but I'd rather play a singleplayer game like 3. The next Pokemon games aren't gen 8. Sure.

But we've also had Monster Hunter World, a Monster Hunter game that managed to break into the mainstream to the point that my friends spent like 100+ hours playing it despite never playing a MH game before. We got God of War PS4, a game that I was so sure about being bad before it released, anticipating a reboot where Kratos is taken by the Norse gods so you had to play as the fucking kid - and it ended up blowing me, an absolute skeptic, out of the water with how well it was handled. We got Spider-Man PS4 as well, which has been well received by most. Puddlegate was a fucking farce though, perpetuated by total fucking losers.

2018 has had its ups and downs for sure, but there's been a lot of good to come out of this year and I think that's worth acknowledging. We can sit in the dark bitching about how games are kinda shit this month and how badly handled a bunch of stuff is, completely valid arguments of course, but there's been enough decent content coming out throughout 2018 that's worth talking about and reiterating.

Yup. We get an anti-Semitic Dylann Roof wannabe and some dickhead who shoots up a bar and grill - taking out someone who survived the Vegas shooting last year - and the news passes quickly because we've already had this discussion recently, we've said all that there is to say, there's nothing else we can do.

And shit, we even had a Trump knob-slobber sending shitty ineffective pipe bombs to democrats and we even dropped that shit fast thanks to the shootings. Not that it would matter, since an overwhelmingly shitty contingent of CE would argue that it's not an issue because the bombs didn't actually explode.

I couldn't tell you about the California shooting asshole, but MAGAbomber and the synagogue gunman were both right-wing - one of them infatuated with Trump enough to cover his van in Trump stickers, the other one so right-wing that he feels like Trump isn't doing enough so he took things into his own hands. This is only going to get worse before it gets better - I can't help feeling that the right is only going to get more violent like this, to the point that when Trump's shitty ass is finally booted out, we're going to see a bunch of unstable cousin-fuckers going on rampages against the "Orwellian dictator" left - because that's going to be the norm for the right, take everything by force, don't let your wrongdoing get in the way of being a violent and disingenuous "patriot".

The only relief I find in the above is that they won't have the opportunity to shoot me, thanks to the difference in location.

At least he can't be exploited any more. Someone stole his fucking blood to sign comic books with, his last years on Earth were spent being picked clean by vultures. At least through death, he doesn't have to deal with that shit any more.

RIP Stan Lee. Maybe not everything was right in the world of comics, but it still helped to have a figurehead to look up to.
