Usually you reserve it for a moment when a character does something particularly pointed that makes you go, wait, what??? One of the most classic examples is Neville Longbottom It can also certainly be a character who's also a bad-ass to begin with, if they do something really memorable either in the scope of their character or the overall series. At a glance, Bowser and Charizard are the same character. If I said there was a large, fire-breathing dinosaur/reptile from the main cast of a prominent Nintendo franchise in a match, you wouldn't know who I was referring to. They look more or less the same on paper. To Charizard's advantage, Bowser is a villain, but Charizard isn't really the good guy so much as a sidekick for the good guy. To Bowser's advantage, though, he's anthropomorphic. He does things. Particularly in the RPG games, he has dialogue and personality. If all else proves to be a wash, being a MF'ing dragon is awesome, but all other signs point to Bowser. OTOH, Pikachu is far less of a sidekick. He's the face of the franchise. He follows you, sans Poke Ball, in Yellow. He's omnipresent in the animated series. If I had never seen a gamefaqs contest, I would have assumed Pikachu was the #3 Nintendo character behind Mario and Link. (Yes, ahead of Samus.) Meanwhile, a sidekick is precisely what Yoshi is. He's Mario's horse. Sure, he's got a lot more going for him than, say, Epona -- like having his own minor games, a place in Smash and Kart, and a bit of personality -- but I don't think that's enough to outweigh what Pikachu ought to have going for him. --- Video Game Music Contest 12 winner: Ys 8 - Sunshine Coastline |

I mean, I get it that it's a funny meme but I wouldn't rally a character just because of a meme. The game is a dating sim, but only 3 of the 4 girls are dateable. And this comes right after the introduction where they basically say Monika is every guy's wet dream and that she's way out of your league. By all accounts, you're supposed to be interested in her at first, but then the game doesn't support or develop that option. You share your poetry with Monika, and that's the extend of your ability to interact with her. There are no writing options that will intrigue her. There's no way to have additional actions with her. Both you and Monika are supposed to notice that. You're just not expecting that she's going to rig the system that's initially rigged against her. OrangeCrush980 posted... To be honest everyone in the bracket might have at least 1 person with them winning it. True, or at least you would think that'd be the case by now. It's just that my old philosophy for making one really bold call of some sort in the guru was that I'd rather have a 1% chance for something unlikely to happen than a 0% chance of actually out-picking everyone else who knows the stats better than me. If you compound that 1% chance with still having to beat out somebody else, that makes it feel just that much harder. On the subject of rallies, I guess I should ask, how far does everyone see them going? Like, do they fizzle over the break? Do they take it all the way to Link and fail? Beat him once and lose on the rematch? Simply crush all comers? I imagine any of those are possible depending on the scope of the rally, but the last two are the most plausible unless it's just a really soft swell of voters coming in.
