In Britain, it's the North. It's viewed as poorer than the South, less well educated, and with more "ruined" places to live. I think this is probably all true.

pinky's bizarre delusions about me stalking him continue to make me laugh. I've never spoken to a guy as egocentric as him. Thinking that at least one person is obsessed with him, just because of questions asked over the years.

It's actually pretty scary for a. a Hammer film, and b. a horror film.

I mean, a lot of horror films are entertaining, but it's because of the characters, or soundtrack, or dialogue. This actually has a few different scary bits. It also has an interesting setting, people doing parapsychological research in the 1970s, and several hot girls.

I remember one time, him posting this scary story from his workplace. He asked one of his employees to do something, and the employee asked why, and bok_choi said he became so angry he wouldn't to assault him.

Pleasant, but clueless.

She seems like one of those stereotypical models / former models: good-looking, but not exactly a genius. She appears to know very little about government, or anything else. Not a bad person, just doesn't really have an opinion on anything much.

I think he died back in May. I obviously didn't hear about it at the time.

Very sad. He wrote a lot of books (about 30), and at least a couple were very good. Geninely talented writer, and he wasn't afraid to write smart, challenging books. He didn't shy away from writing about being Jewish, either...even if he didn't think much of religion, himself.

Of course, he'd been retired for a few years. He was pretty much spent as a writer.

Anyway else sad about this?

I've learned so much about Germany this year. So many interesting sources.

- Bunch of YouTube documentaries, including some really long ones
- Various Wikis
- Sections of some history books
- Entertainment films
- Talking to Germans on CE

I know people make out I know nothing about the country, but I actually know a ton. I know a lot about Nazi and split Germany; quite a lot about modern Germany and the Weimar Republic; a bit about the German Empire. I've learnt plenty.

You know, writing a short story collection, IMO, is slightly harder than writing a novel, and writing a novel is really, REALLY hard. Go figure. Doing a collection is like climbing up K2 with your teeth, then doing the Kabayashi Maru.

What kind of German short stories

What do the Germans on CE think about this

I want to cover the Weimar Republic, the Nazi regime, modern Germany, the German Empire, and East and West Germany. I would have to say, though, that the focus should be the Nazi regime and East / West Germany.

My German short story collection. I've spent plenty of time getting ideas together (and doing research, of course), and I think the beginning of January would be a good time to start. Ah, writing. Good fun.

I used that golden door thing. I got Sonic, Bowser, and Princess Zelda, which is pretty cool. At least I have some progress now, though.

But I don't think this game is for me, anyway. Apart from the fact I have no friends to play it with, the single-player isn't that much fun. With stuff like SF4, and DOA 4, and Soul Calibur 1, I could spend quite a lot of time doing things by myself, and it was often stuff that seemed like it was worth doing, but...I dunno. That spirit thing seems confusing and boring, and Classic Mode doesn't interest me that much.

At least I know I don't like the Smash series much, now. That's something.

HMV, which is the last chain of electronics stores left in Britain.

Back in about 2010 - 2012 it was in administration, then it was fine for a few years, now they've announced it's back in administration again. Sad. It's the only proper chain of electronics stores left in the country, selling stuff like video games, films, TV and music. It really is a good place to shop, with a large range of stuff (for a brick and mortar store), and reasonable prices. Plus, it's so nice to just wander around, and browse, which aren't things you can exactly do on Amazon (at least, not wander around).

I dunno. It got out of administration once before, perhaps it can do it again. But the news has been saying, just recently, about stores are generally in serious trouble. I mean, I really like using Amazon, usually for films (but other stuff too), but I would hate for all the physical stores to die. That would be bad. I suppose the supermarkets and clothes stores would never die out, but other than that...eh.

I'm not entirely sure what you're saying, but I thought Episode 1 was excellent, and Episode 2 was very good.

They weren't as good as the original Sonics, but they were still a lot of fun.

Big Amazon package, just came this morning. I was awake, but not dressed, so I told the girl to leave it in the porch. Clever Sunhawk.

I was surprised at which films came first, though. Several major films didn't come with the package. Quite a few that arrived were indie films. You would've thought that the mainstream films would've arrived quicker than some of the other stuff.

Very few people endure past that.

I mean, historians and experts on the relevant subjects know who they were, but not the general public. There is occasionally someone so famous that they are still generally known, hundreds of years after their deaths. I would say these people generally fall into 2 categories: politicians and religious leaders.

It's disturbing. Even if you do amazing things in your life, and are largely known, respected and appreciated, you just disappear into obscurity just a few decades after your death. It makes you wonder what the point in trying "to make something of yourself" is.

I haven't spent 500 hours of my life getting amazing at it.

Ironically, it's usually the Smash fans who are complaining a lot about a new Smash game. I guess things have flipped this time, with a newbie complaining about it, and the hardcore fans generally liking it.

I bought a Smash game after all these years, didn't I? I've played it a bit?

I just...don't think it's that enjoyable. Plus, it's too hard and unlocking stuff is too slow. I didn't expect the hardcore Smash fans on this board to take it well (lulz), but calm down. It's certainly no Soul Calibur 1 (although I guess you could argue that it's not trying to be).

One is the Nazi reigme, the other two are general German history.

The reason I'm a little disappointed, is because in the general ones, there only seem to be maybe 10 or 20 pages on East Germany. Clearly it's an important part of history, but these authors don't seem to think so.

I won't deny, though, the Nazi book is really interesting. A proper academic book that doesn't try to be user friendly, with lots of information, and intelligently written. Quite a lot on the Weimar Republic, then the rest is basically the Nazi regime itself. Looking over different bits, I'm surprised at how little there seems to be on the Nuremberg Trials, which I think are a very important aspect of the history of Nazism, but it doesn't matter that much. It's not like, if nothing else, I haven't watched a 3 hour film on them.

I just find it incredibly hard to believe you can't unlock anything from one of the most "pick up and play" friendly games ever created

I haven't touched this franchise since Melee and I unlocked a character it 10 min.

Its almost impossible to not have unlocked anything by this point. Especially if you're beating the classic mode

Pick up and play? I'd say it's not particularly pick up and play at all. Think less FPSs and platformers, and more something like a real time strategy game. You know, where you spent a few hours learning relatively basic stuff.

Except Tiberium Sun and Red Alert 2 are excellent games. I doubt this is.

Hes beating classic. Then somehow cant beat ANY of the AI even though the first challengers you fight have worse AI than any fight in classic.

But you only get one chance to beat them. You can continue at least a few times with the other fights.

It's not slow, apparently you're losing the unlock fights. Go to Games & More in the menu and click the door to retry them.

I'm pretty sure people told you this in the last topic you made.

I know what they told me, but I've lost every fight where you unlock a character. Also, I looked, and didn't see any options to replace them.

I don't remember being horribly bad at fighting games.

Only possibly conclusion: this game is extremely slow to unlock characters. Plenty of filler, like those "spirit" things, but that's not quite the same as actual, good content.

On an unrelated note, I'm thinking of starting up a beverages company. You get this huge bottle of juice for a low price, but you can only drink a tenth of it.

This might come as a huge shock to you, but there are worse things in life than Smash players being angry at you. Much worse.

Gunstar Heroes is actually fun to play.
