Okay everyone, thanks for various advice and information. I've been too busy playing Sega Mega Drive Classics Compilation to play this more than briefly, but I doubt I'll get a new game and only spend 1 hour in it.

Geez, Sunhawk. I remember seeing your posts back in like 2002-2004. Nice to see some old names around. Wish I still had my old accounts but I don't even remember what they were back then. =|

Anyways, I thought I'd get really into Smash this time around. Always dabbled, never cared to jump in. I've played Ultimate for a couple hours. It's a fine game, but in the end, I suppose I'm just too old to care about competing, especially with the way the online has been handled.

Yeah, I made this account in 2002. I've pretty much been a regular ever since, except the occasional absence. I take it you've been away from the board for a while, maybe a few years?

Stage 5 is perhaps the hardest part of the game. That level was tough, and the boss was really hard sometimes.

Stage 3's boss in really hard, i.e. Orange. I must admit, I've recently struggled with the Dice Palace (in Stage 4).

How does the unlocking in Classic Mode actually work? Do you have to beat it with specific characters? Do you have to get a certain number of accumulative points?

About 60

A really good batch, I think. Some great films, mixed in with some pretty good films. A nice balance between mainstream and indie, basically 4 regular films and 6 alternate films. Also, a good mix when it comes to country. 4 American, 2 French, 2 British, and 2 German. They stretch from the 1970s to the 2010s. Got it all pretty cheap, too. Should be arriving over the next several days.

What do you think, CE?

I've played on Melee before, but only very briefly, and also a long time ago.

Not sure what to think. Here are some thoughts I've had about it.

- Beating enemies is surprisingly tough. I thought it would've be too hard to knock them down off the bottom of the screen, but I didn't really realise that the characters have mid-air jumps, which make this task a lot, lot harder.

- Jumping by pressing up on the left analogue stick is...strange. I assumed you just pressed a button, but I guess not.

- I'm annoyed that I played for a while on Classic Mode, and beat it as 2 different characters, and yet haven't unlocked anyone new. I mean, there are meant to be something like 70 characters, but I'm still stuck with the first 8.

- Graphics are excellent, proper 9th gen graphics, which is very welcome. Most Switch games I've played look a bit unimpressive, so this is a really good thing.

- The combat arenas seem pretty interesting, much better than most fighting games series. Multi-tiered, slopes, places to fall off, and various crazy stuff happening. Plus, plenty of interesting nods to series I like. I must be the only person who's glad there's a Pac-Land level.

- The menus are sometimes confusing. I spent about 10 minutes trying to begin playing the tournament mode, but couldn't actually get it to start. This was disappointing.

Well, that's my basic opinion. Of course, you would probably have to play the series for hours to really get a feel for it, and I expect it takes 100s or hours to become an expert or master. Overall, pretty underwhelmed. I know people say it's stupid to buy for just single-player, but it should be fun anyway. What do you think about what I've said?

- Gunstar Heroes, which is basically the main game I wanted, is still a lot of fun. It's a very well designed game. Lots of creative bosses, great music, very clever weapon system. I think I've slipped quite a lot, though. I never beat it in Master Mode before, but back in the day I didn't have TOO much trouble with Normal Mode. I've made several attempts to beat Normal Mode today and yesterday, and died by the end of the game. ;_;

- Toejam and Earl is pretty much as average as I remember. It's not bad, but it's just random wandering around, without too much actual gameplay.

- Alien Storm, which I'd never played before, seems decent. I haven't played it much, but it's basically like Streets of Rage, but with worse graphics, and better gameplay.

- Alien Soldier, which is a game I've been really looking forward to playing (I wanted to play this as far back as 1996, but due to lack of money and the release of the Saturn, never got around to), came as a bit of a surprise. I knew it was a lot like Gunstar Heroes (which is very good), but I'm not sure what to make of it. It's much, much harder. I've spent maybe 30 minutes on it, and can't beat the first boss / level. The different moves that the main character can do seem quite complex. I'm not saying it's bad, infact it might be great, but the difficulty comes on a little, uh, strong, from early on. Not sure about this game.

- The Revenge of Shinobi, which I'm not sure if I've played before, seems nice, with interesting combat and platforming.

Also, I hate all the bullshit they were posting on the board for this (Switch version). Some people were going on about how bad the input delay is, how it makes stuff unplayable, blah blah blah, but from what I've played, it's minimal, basically the same as the original games. Other things, like graphics and sound seem fine, too.

Good times. Especially since I can't really play some of the old games on the Genesis / Mega Drive anymore, and don't have them ported to any other console.

How would you describe the situation in Germany, in the days and months following 9/11? Did it affect Germans very badly, or did it not bother them *too* much? Were people constantly talking about the terrorists and Afghanistan, or was it more in the background? Did people suddenly become really patriotic, like in America? Also, did Germany contribute to the invasion force? I thought I read it didn't, but I'm not sure. Do Germans consider it to be the biggest event of the 21st century, like many people around the world do, or not?

I wasn't living in Germany after 9/11, but I got the impression that it didn't affect Germans too much. While Germany did send soldiers to Afghanistan, they also stayed out of Iraq, so by the time I came back to Germany in 2006 terrorism wasn't at the forefront, and there was a sense of security until 2016 that it wouldn't happen in Germany (the large attacks between 9/11 and 2016 didn't occur in Germany: Madrid, London, Paris, Brussels, Nice).
Also,

> Germans
> Really patriotic

Choose one.

Why aren't Germans really patriotic? Is it because of the perception that, on previous occasions, German patriotism has led to some very bad things happening? Or am I overthinking things? Is it just that they don't give a fuck? To be fair, I wouldn't say that modern Britain is that patriotic.

I thought at least a few people would, I dunno, care quite a lot about underwear. I guess there aren't many fashion people on CE.

Of course, the precept of the underwear brand you wear being "important", is challenged by a simple logical idea. If people hardly ever see your underwear, what does it matter what you wear?

Why? I just do NOT understand this.

- Lots of really good characters
- Great scenes
- Some really good action
- Bad guys worked well
- The music
- Lots of cool twists
- Some interesting cameos
- Subverts SW in some fun ways

How could someone not like the film? So entertaining to watch. I mean, it has problems, but not film is perfect. My only real complaint is that it was too long. That was a bad move. Just cut some stuff. Also, I didn't like the space plot as much as the planet plot (with Rey, I mean), but I still enjoyed it.

I don't know what's wrong with SW fans. I really don't. I doubt they will rebut the points I made in this post, though, or respond directly. Just say I'm trolling or stupid. That's much easier than actually talking to someone you disagree with.

Here's another couple of questions.

I know I've claimed quite a lot that mothers are discriminated a lot against in the German workforce, during the modern era for the country, but in general, are women treated badly in general? I mean, sexist remarks, not being promoted because they're women, people trying to force them to sleep with them, etc.?

Also, have you all heard about that scandal involving the guy who worked for Der Spiegel? He seems like the German Stephen Glass or something. If you've heard about it, what do you think of him?

You know, I was surprised at Dunkirk. It really wasn't very entertaining to watch. I can't believe how boring they made WW2 seem, you know? This is one of the few times I'll say this, but Dunkirk tried to be too arthousey. I would've rather had shit blowing up, and people shooting at each other.

Also, with regards to popularity, very few would say New Simpsons is nearly as good as Old Simpsons, but plenty of people still apparently watch it. I don't know the exact viewing figures, but it's still seemingly popular. The quality has dropped a lot, though...like with Nolan, IMO.

Not necessarily. It's when something isn't as popular as it once was and it resorts to doing more outlandish things to try garner back the attention to itself.
This isn't the case with Nolan at all.

You don't think Interstellar was an outlandish film? It had space travel, time travel, and AI life forms. When has Nolan done those things before?
