Sephiroth > Mario in 2005 is a great one to bring up and one of the reasons I think the "8 legends" will tear through the guys that reach them (with a Mario > Sephiroth revenge result to cap things off). By holding back the classic guys until the end, we're building up hype for their arrival and minimizing the anti-votes that build up against them throughout a typical contest.

Anyway, I'll pick a random one and say Kefka winning two rounds in 2013. He gave us glimpses of legit strength by beating Arthas in 2010, but no one expected him to take out a FFVII character (and easily!).

Yoblazer, you need a superior microphone brother.

Yeah, I listened back and definitely wasn't happy with the output quality (which isn't surprising since I was just using my phone and a standard earbud mic for the call).

I might need to think of a better system, but I really like taking the Skype call from my phone now, so my options are probably limited.

He also had a clutch win against Donkey Kong in 2003, but it felt like a poor performance since most people expected him to be stronger.

That doesn't approach the Kefka match though, which still may be the greatest Round 1 match we've ever had.

Is there like, a council that decides this?

If more and more restaurants push for it over time, it'll become the norm, right? I was too young to pay for my own food 25 years ago, but wasn't the standard ~10% back then? Nowadays, 10% is cheapskate territory.

That answer would probably have been "no" for most of the people who've actually done it.

I'm afraid of the irrevocable commitment. You can break up with a partner. You can quit a job. You can divorce a spouse. You can't just go "take backsies" on your kids. Also, I'm particularly scared of the possibility of having a kid that you don't fall in love with. What if I don't love my kids? Not every parent does, and I'm terrified of being in a situation like that.

I think gamefaqs is too old and set in its ways to get her even close to Dante, though.

Yeah, Bayonetta would be stronger if her first game came out in... let's say 2005 versus 2010, but she's probably a victim of GameFAQs Modern Apathy. I think I'd take her over Kratos, but never over white haired Dante.

My roommate keeps leftover takeout and his uneaten prepped meals in there for like... 2-3+ weeks. I've always eaten leftovers within a day or two, so I had never seen anyone do this before.

Am I in the wrong for being grossed out by this, or is it actually gross behavior that I should talk to him about? My biggest concern is it actually becoming a health hazard, because some of his food has smelled funky before, and he just seems to forget about it.

Multigeneration households aren't too common in America and are frowned upon. Americans are expected to send their parents off to retirement homes or apartments/neighborhood for the elderly. There is great shame in living with your parents past the age of 22. The shame is so great that people start moving out of their parents home as soon as the age of 16.

This stigma has been disappearing due to both economic limitations and the increase of minority populations in the U.S. (I think multigenerational homes are less stigmatized in the black, Hispanic, Asian, and Middle Eastern cultures). But you're right, it's generally still there though not as significantly as it was two generations ago.

TopicDid Jesse Pinkman get a happy ending in Breaking Bad?
CaptainOfCrush
08/22/18 12:41:46 AM
#26
Before the finale, I was guessing Jesse would live just because killing him (I assumed Walt dying was a given) would leave too sour a taste for fans. While he did live, he sure as hell didn't get a happy ending.

He lost all his money. The only two women he ever cared for died horribly. He could never return to his family. He was a major criminal and turning himself in really wasn't an option - at least not at happiness. He was mentally broken after not only witnessing Andrea's murder, but being literally tortured and enslaved for months. Another poster on the Cable TV board said that after his final scene, Jesse was more likely to drive his getaway car off a cliff than into a new, happy life. I agree, sadly.

IMO, the overarching motif in the Breaking Bad world - told through the stories of Walt, Jesse, Mike, Gus, Saul, Hector, Gale, Nacho, you name it - is that crime doesn't pay. No one ended happier than where they began, and many innocent lives were destroyed by their greed and hubris. Jesse's tortured survival tells that same story.

Investing in worthless imaginary intangible "money" turns out to be a bad idea? Who would have thunk it.

And is paper money really all that different?

Paper money has governmental backing and fail-safes to keep it from collapsing (provided that it's historically stable currency to begin with). If the U.S. Dollar completely collapses, it's taking a good chunk of the world's economy with it. If Bitcoin completely collapses, everyone who DIDN'T jump completely on board that train will be fine.

Also, comparing Bitcoin to paper currency seems a bit disingenuous to me because most of us didn't think of it as currency when we bought it - we thought of it as an investment. If Bitcoin was as stable as most currency, it wouldn't have been nearly as alluring last year.

I put $3k in as play money last October/November, saw it increase to around $8k, held, and now I'm at $2k. Since I don't need the money, I'll probably keep it in crypto and forget about it until the next time it makes major news. I don't feel bad about holding when I could have made a $5k profit in under two months - better to get smacked on the wrist than to become obsessed and risk losing serious money.

But yeah, I think those golden days of December 2017 are gone for a long while, if not for good. What can really bring Bitcoin back? It's dominated the news cycle for the last nine months, meaning that everyone knows about and the allure it had last year is gone.
