I imagine it will probably be tough thanks to legal terms, characters with weird names, and no easy/quick way to look vocab up (iirc?) unlike something like a digital version of a novel where you can easily copy text and paste it to a dictionary

I don't think I'll ever play pokemon in japanese, for some reason learning and remember pokemon names is like 100x harder than learning and remembering actual vocab

Also if you're just not a fan of pokemon I'm sure there are plenty of other video games targetted at children you could try instead. it's not like pokemon has a unique audience or anything

Trickier to read for sure, in part because you see them less often so you have less exposure and in part because of the ambiguities in trying to turn them into words in other languages (the sort of thing that causes aeris vs aerith arguments)

though, I was referring more to starting with a word in english and trying to figure out the katakana for it. I dunno why but it's always super hard and I have a lot more trouble than going the other direction

"Monster" is spelled "monsuta" , i kinda expect it to be spelled "monsutaru" because the english word ends with a hard "r"

You have to keep in mind that japanese has a somewhat limited set of "valid" syllables so katakana loanwords will often just be a best attempt approximation. Consider how basically no one speaking english would ever say monsteru but depending on their accent they might get pretty close to monsta or monstah

reading katakana can be tricky but turning english words into katakana is basically the final boss of japanese

no. I can see where you're coming from and why you think this, and in some cases it will be a valid parallel, but don't get used to this because it's really not correct at all. yeah, sure, though these are based sort of on politeness levels (especially that negative) and there are other ways to get basically the same meaning. Also keep in mind japanese doesn't always use question marks at the ends of questions

is probably best translated to "this" in english. so... while is a valid sentence it doesn't have the same meaning really. Aside from the fact that it's no longer asking the listener about themselves, it's also now not even asking about a person

It was the Wii. It likely would've been fine on Gamecube but I never owned a Gamecube. I always wished I did but it went exclusive PS2 that generation. I'm right handed so that wasn't the issue. My issue with the Wii was that I have cerebral palsey, which affects my left side. Having to hold the controls in separate hands was very uncomfortable for me. I need to be able to hold one control in both hands.

you always could have bought the gamecube version of it, which is playable on the wii with backwards compatbility. Can definitely understand why you'd have issues playing actual wii games though. Skyward sword especially was probably one of the most complex/precise of the wii motion control games (it even had an extra controller addon) so it would definitely be a no-go

I definitely like competing with other people in games but most pvp games are genres I don't really enjoy so I'm stuck with weird singleplayer methods of competition (races, highscores, etc)

it shuffles items across games as well as within the game. Eg your slingshot could be in my game somewhere, and then when I find it it would be you who gets a slingshot instead of me

then you get however many people you set it up for, connect with netplay, and play through it together all at once just passing items around

Any boss that requires you to go through a lengthy unskippable cutscene every time you attempt it.

It doesn't help that the boss has a lot of HP, multiple forms, hp drain moves, and a lot of defence piercing moves. Means if you built tanky, it takes forever, a lot of your stats are ignored, and it has two massive cutscenes in it

cheat engine has plenty of valid uses that I would not consider cheating, even setting aside that it's catching people who aren't using it to do anything with the game or even people who aren't running it while they're playing and just have it installed

banning people for having programs installed on their computer at all, that never come into contact with the game or were never even intended to be used with the game at all is a joke and there's basically no defending this at all

the games have different physics, you can tell just from watching the first few levels that it's not just a question of optimization and the games actually play differently.

In this game, you can use left+right to quickly accelerate from a standing position, and it allows Mario to run at a speed of 64 (even though it shows 66 in memory). This is faster than the regular speed of 56 when Mario has P-Speed. After quite a bit of work, I was able to beat the time of the NES TAS. This leads me to think that this version may be faster for warpless and 100% categories too, but I'm probably not going to worry about these.

I'm honestly a bit surprised the SNES version isn't faster by a larger margin

while I definitely agree some items are slightly intuitive, the reason I brought it up is because I also think there's a significant number of crafting results that are extremely unlikely you'd ever make them on your own and there aren't ingame tutorials either.

Pickaxe? Obvious.

Left stick is default with tap jump on, but I use X/Y for short hops and double jump canceling for Samus, Mewtwo, etc
