finished mai hime. it was quite good

+ manages to have a ton of characters without any of them feeling like throwaways
+ is serious and sometimes dark without being edgy which is something a lot of shows (especially newer ones) seem to struggle with
+ amazing soundtrack (of course)

- pacing a bit weird. the show is divided into two distinct sections but I think the divide should have been sooner since the beginning feels stretched out and the second part feels squished
- ending is weak and sorta steps on some of the ideas the show set up beforehand
- potentially a lot more melodrama / love troubles / etc than you might be expecting from a magical girl battle show (this didn't bug me though)

would recommend to pretty much anyone unless they either really hate mostly female main casts or don't want anything serious in their shows at all

halfway through maihime, it's surprisingly good. kinda monster of the week ish (though I suspect this is about to change) which I normally don't like much, but for some reason it's not bothering me much here. I think if I was to credit it to anything in particular, it would be that it has a really good cast. There's enough characters to keep the world feeling lively but it doesn't feel like any of them are just single joke throwaways. They've all got at least some kind of storyline and importance going on and I feel like that sort of thing is rare.

oh, and the music is great, as expected. having this as a battle theme could carry any number of generic monster fights

it's really not quite the same. when you go out in the winter and your toes/fingers/ears get numb they stay that way for hours even after you're back inside where it's heated

my PC volume goes from 0-100 but the volume up/down buttons change it by 2 at a time so the only real "rule" I have is always an even number (because it's hard not to...)

I'm also not really sure why it goes that loud since I don't think I've ever turned it up past around 20ish

you know how some songs will have a second verse that has the same music/rhythm as the first but different words and it comes off as awkward when they try to jam words into places they don't quite fit as if the song wasn't written to consider that?

I liked it but I wouldn't say it was amazing

it had some strong potential foundation for jokes but then just tended to ignore it a lot of the time. needed more episodes actually in the cafe

funko pop is like the one type of figurine I just completely don't understand. There's so much potential for cool figures of characters that actually look like the characters and instead you get these blobby sorts of things that throw out all but the few most iconic parts of their design which is just enough to recognize who they are

I guess best way to describe it would be like... high level players? people very knowledgeable about the game(s) they play and able to really push them to the limit. Speedrunners, fighting game tournaments, that sort of thing

Racist language might flow through them, but according to many of the trolls Ive interviewed, they arent being racist. Theyre trolling, which to them is a different thing entirely.

I think it would be neat if machine translation could also present a confidence rating %, because while these are very obviously wrong the same sort of thing can easily happen in a less apparent manner and the person translating presumably won't be able to tell (since if they could read it to tell in the first place they wouldn't need the translation)
