Could she kill him because he was a burden on her and he wasn't "viable"? She did have the right to, for instance, divorce him and let him take care of himself or find other arrangements. And if he died because of that, we wouldn't say she murdered him. What would the analogy be for that action with respect to abortion? How does the woman decide she doesn't want a fetus for the next several months? If there were a procedure that allowed her to remove the baby without directly killing it, but that removal lead to it dying, are you going to say that that would be okay? --- It's one more thing we do to the poor, the deprived: cut out their tongues . . . allow them a language as lousy as their lives |

Balrog0 06/28/18 11:24:31 AM #43 | ThePieReborn posted... Stalin's rampage can be attributed to stereotypical mad man paranoia and efforts to seize and consolidate power by squashing any apparent threat to him. This is easy to understand because it fits into a reasonable (loosely speaking, of course) mindset of a leader that believed his grip on his absolute power was tenuous and constantly at risk of undermining. The killings were also more organic (which doesn't make it any better, obviously) in that they fell within standard methods: shootings (both clandestine and execution-style), starvation, and abuse via conditions. also, pretty much everyone in the soviet union died with comfortable conformity, whereas in nazi germany the killings were much more targeted --- It's one more thing we do to the poor, the deprived: cut out their tongues . . . allow them a language as lousy as their lives |

Balrog0 06/27/18 4:32:52 PM #78 | ForestLogic posted... That really wasn't the point I was making, but alright, I'll bite. What do supermarkets do with them after they collect them at their recycling centers? Everything I read states that polyethelene can be recycled. They probably all recyclable, I just know they don't work and are actively harmful for the sort of recycling most places do. This post gets at that: Questionmarktarius posted... Balrog0 posted...my point is that plastic bags make recycling everything else harder because people will mistakenly sort them with the other, actually recyclable goods https://www.plasticsmakeitpossible.com/plastics-recycling/how-to-recycle/at-home/can-i-recycle-plastic-bags-in-the-recycling-bin/ Fortunately, it is getting easier to recycle because more and more communities are moving toward single stream recycling residents get one big rolling container for ALL recyclables with instructions on what to collect and what NOT to collect. With a single stream program in place, residents no longer have to separate recyclables into two or more bins and then carry them to the curb (not easy for many folks). By simplifying the collection process, the single stream rolling bin has proven to dramatically increase the amount of recyclables collected and to increase recycling rates. All good. However, there also are many items generally not accepted in the curbside recycling bin. One example: while a few curbside programs accept plastic bags, wraps and film, most dont. Why? Most recycling facilities are set up to handle predominately rigid (hard) materials that are easier to separate using machinery: aluminum cans, glass bottles, plastic containers and lids, metal cans, cardboard/paper, etc. They generally dont accept softer items such as your ready-for-retirement college sweatshirt, your beer stained carpeting or your stash of used grocery bags. Its not that used plastic bags, wraps and film cant be recycled into new materials they simply require a different collection system and processing equipment than many curbside recycling programs provide. The problem is you can recycle plastic bags, but mostly only at the store itself, and no one brings their plastic bags back to the store with them --- It's one more thing we do to the poor, the deprived: cut out their tongues . . . allow them a language as lousy as their lives |
