ICE didn't exist 16 years ago. There are people still in congress who voted against its creation. Abolishing it should be a mainstream Democratic view. That Sanders dodged the question the other day was cowardly

Though, from what I've read about this bill, it basically just recreates ICE through different agencies, which is no good.

I mean. I like @Antifar but this attitude kinda confuses me. Before ice we had ins and custom services. We're not gonna not have agencies that deal with the stuff that ice deals with. We can scale back this whole shitty raiding homes and churches and businesses stuff, but we can deal with that with or without ice and we can not deal with it with or without ice, too

I did. The game was really fun. Destroying monster lairs, finding out what you unlocked back in town, and exploring the town you just revived has this addictive quality to it. I also played through Illusion of Gaia, and now I'm on Terranigma and Lufia II and just kind of alternating between those.

Seems like a lot in such a short time, but I'm planning to move out soon and trying to blaze through some classic games I've never bothered to play before I'm too adult and independent to have time.

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/06/26/republican-tax-law-churches-employees-670362

Republicans have quietly imposed a new tax on churches, synagogues and other nonprofits, a little-noticed and surprising change that could cost some groups tens of thousands of dollars.

Their recent tax-code rewrite requires churches, hospitals, colleges, orchestras and other historically tax-exempt organizations to begin paying a 21 percent tax on some types of fringe benefits they provide their employees.

That could force thousands of groups that have long had little contact with the IRS to suddenly begin filing returns and paying taxes for the first time.

Many organizations are stunned to learn of the tax part of a broader Republican effort to strip the code of tax breaks for employee benefits like parking and meals and say it will be a significant financial and administrative burden.

think of it like this; would you have considered the SNES retro in 2006?

there's a much bigger difference between games released in 1996 and 2006, than there was in games from 2006 and 2016

really, other than slightly faster hardware and better resolution, games haven't improved all that much in the past 10 or so years

it really just kind of depends what you want to consider. 1996 is already really post-SNES, PS1 and Saturn were already out for a few years and it's the year we got Mario 64, Tomb Raider, Mario Kart 64, Crash Bandicoot. so I guess I'd argue that a lot of the foundation for modern gaming (though Goldeneye isn't released until 97, which is really the beginning of the rise in console FPS games so we're not QUITE there in 96 yet)

there is admittedly a bigger jump between SNES and Xbox 360 than there is between Xbox 360 and now, but idk

the whole thing just seems confused really

for one thing, it is conflating a lot of different stuff or at least it seems that way to me.

like, the people who politely asked Sanders to leave the Red Hen, how is that lacking in civility? Being civil is about your tone, so the heckling and such is one thing, but the business refusing service has nothing to do with those incidents it seems to me

but even those people who are heckling, it is weird the way people are talking about it as some kind of response to Trump's tone and rhetoric. But a symmetrical response to Trump's tone and rhetoric would be for people to be making dick jokes about Miller and giving them dumb nicknames like Nutty Nielsen or something. I don't think that is the same thing, either

like you can think heckling people in public when they're off the clock is bad, but I don't understand the portrayal of these things as being the same or whatever. is it not clear that the motivator for this spat of public harassment is the fact that a lot of people are really upset about this thing at the border. it isn't about tone at all?

Everything except the entire date range for a data set that is already extremely limited given that it covers less than a year of sentiment.

Everything except for that and also the decline in people who disapprove and the surge in people who don't know anymore.

I keep saying it got more popular, how could I say that if I were ignoring before it got popular?

Approval ratings are typically discussed in terms of the approve/disapprove disparity. and don't count don't knows directly. But I agree that an increase in don't knows explains a lot, one reason I'm okay with your hypothetical breitbart article is that it underscores the reality that the gulf between approve/disprove hides an important point regarding the strength of the disapproval. and approval ratings

Ah, didn't load the graph the first time. Anyway, what is your point exactly? These numbers are along the same lines as what I said and not in favor of what Antifar said unless you're also going to cherrypick the date ranges that prove your point rather than look at the entire date range.

I just don't understand what the cherrypicking supposedly is here. What you're saying isn't incompatible with the fact that it is getting less popular. It had what we can clearly see is one time increase in popularity that is fading.

More people approve of it and less people disapprove of it now than in December, broseph.

You could even cherrypick January to now and see that the number of people who said they don't know almost doubled, which could simply be the result of CNN's non-stop bullshit coverage of the tax cuts. Like I said, this can be cherrypicked in so many ways depending on which narrative you want to peddle. So ultimately we need to abandon the data or take all of it into consideration.

I guarantee you that if this data was showing a consistent decline in approval from December 2017 to June 2018 you'd all be worshiping the entire date range.

I am looking at all the data. It shows a. surge in popularity followed by a decline. I'm not discounting anything, I'm just not letting you dictate. that we need to just look at the beginning and ending numbers

Breitbart's claim would be superficially correct, but no honest and well-to-do person would take such a claim seriously. I'm being 100% objective with the numbers. My only claim about the numbers is:

From December of 2017 to June of 2018, six months later, more people approve of the tax cuts and fewer people disapprove of the tax cuts.

Literally does not get more objective than that.

its also not incompatible with the fact that its getting less, rather than more, popular

I literally dont get your point, I'm not even trying to be obtuse. If a helicopter dropped $100 trillion dollars into the us treasury we would still be losing money tomorrow because we keep spending it. You're saying that would not true because the latest data point would show that we just made $100 trillion. I don't get the thinking except for in a very narrow sense
