On one hand I agree that the biggest youtubers are vapid assholes who behave badly and show off how much they earn when they don't deserve it, like the Paul brothers and Ricegum.

On the other hand, I can respect someone who makes a modest living on Youtube doing what they love. So through that lens, I'm tempted to call you an out of touch grandpa who can't stand the success of others when you can't build the same audience and get the same perks.

Some kids just aren't fighters, and if they were to fight back they'd get fucking annihilated. It's easy to say "just stick up for yourself and fight back!", fucking everyone offered that advice when I was a kid, but I wasn't a muscular kid. I wasn't prone to violence, I just wanted to be left alone. And when I did lash out or try to fight back, it'd always backfire and add another reason for people to bully me.

People should be able to solve their own problems, but some people aren't able to fight back. They aren't predispositioned to do so, or they physically aren't able to. They might be more likely to get in trouble because the bully is popular and the victim isn't, so people back the bully. "Fighting back" is a romantic notion that doesn't solve anything for a lot of people, it leads to more trouble for the victim and it leads to more ammunition for bullies to use if the victim is fucking pathetic at fighting.

Ultimately, I don't think that bullying is an issue that will ever be fully fixed. It's hard to come forward as a victim, especially when you're a little kid, and telling someone about it rarely does anything but make the bullying worse or lead to no consequences for the tormentor. I was bullied for years - I had no idea why I was bullied to begin with, but the social alienation and lack of healthy human interaction led to strange behaviour that I was then bullied for - it's a vicious cycle that breaks a person open, which creates more fuel to attack them with.

The best thing you can do as a kid is escape the shitty environment, and lots of kids can't do that. Their parents can't just move schools or move house because their kid is being bullied. I don't know if there's a definitive way to end bullying without the harshest possible punishments and finding ways to scare kids straight. Schools want to find an easy way to force reconciliation, but it doesn't work that way - 9 times out of 10, the bully is still a shithead, and the bullied kid is still scared shitless of them. This hugging garbage doesn't work, and whoever thought that one up is a fucking moron.

Yeah that was a weird one.

People were just utterly convinced that their original consoles were gonna be useless or shit.

The idea was that these half-step console upgrades were similar to the Nintendo DSi or New 3DS - new iterations of their parent console with a bit more power, with games coming later that would only work with the DSi and New 3DS. Through that lens, I can understand the worry.

TopicWHO Recognizes Video Gaming Addiction As Mental Disorder
MrMallard
06/20/18 7:09:30 PM

I mean, addiction is just a process where taking part in something for long enougg affects the chemistry of the brain, so when you are separated from this source of pleasure, you're driven to return to it by the chemical imbalances in your brain. Taking part in the action releases a bit of dopamine, and cutting the action out deprives you of that extra dopamine hit.

Drugs can physically alter that chemistry, but so can immensely pleasurable activities like sex - you're a slave to your desires to get the next dopamine hit. If the activity that triggers this reaction is video games, then yeah - you can be addicted to video games.

The topic title is a bit spicier than I intended, but I had to phrase it a bit awkwardly to get the general idea out there without running out of characters. Liking Man of Steel or BvS or whatever doesn't make someone a Trump supporter, of course I know that. The gist I'm going for is more "DCEU defenders" rather than "DCEU fans".

So, DC movies aren't high art. Their attempt to chase Marvel's steam might be profitable to some degree, but the movies they bring out tend not to be as cohesive or entertaining as a lot of Marvel's input. Man of Steel was an interesting first step, but BvS was a trainwreck unlike anything Marvel's put out in their cinematic universe and the franchise has been trying to make up for it since with mixed results. Meanwhile, while Marvel certainly isn't perfect - and they don't make high art either, Marvel is corporate as fuck - the worst movies they've put out have been forgettable rather than actively controversial. A bad Marvel movie might function as an ad for the next crossover flick, but even then it's not as bad as when BvS tried to set up like four superhero origin movies in the same scene of one movie, you know what I mean?

But if you enjoy these DC movies, then fine. You like them, and that's respectable on a basic human level. But have you ever seen someone try to actively pass them off as cornerstones of the superhero movie genre, or throw Marvel under a fleet of buses to claim that a DC movie is misrepresented or demonised for "not being Marvel"? It's that sort of fan I'm talking about in the topic title.

BvS comes out. I remember trashing Man of Steel a bunch when I saw it for the first time, but on a second viewing I felt like it was at least an interesting thesis to lead into Batman V Superman. So I go see it at a cinema, and it's a 5/10 at best. It gets savaged by critics and fans alike, because it's 150 minutes of bland, cringy or transparent scenes stitched together - and the DC fan outcry is massive. "You're all just Marvel shills! Disney paid off reviewers! This was better than Marvel because it was serious and meant something, unlike that corporate hackjob Marvel/Disney!" etc. Lots of one-word responses to criticism, i.e. "Triggered." or "Shill."

And in hindsight, it fucking reeks of this monosyllabic Donald Trump defence stuff.

People lashing out at Donald Trump for reading some shitty speech, like "our ancestors tamed a continent and made America the great nation that it is" (which involved a large-scale genocide of the indigenous population)? "Triggered", "Liberal shill", "Crybaby". When the election was going on, if someone on TV made a negative comment about Donald Trump? "Paid off by the Democrats!". When it came down to why people supported Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders, it was because "Donald Trump actually stands for something, he makes a real point unlike his competitors". And while yeah, Hillary was all lip service, Bernie had some solid fucking points and he believed in the platform that he ran on - it's a shame that the DNC fucked him like they did.

These people bought into a one-note slogan, "Make America Great Again", that didn't mean anything substantial. It meant building a wall and kicking some people out of the country, not improving an aspect of the country that had fallen upon hard times - last I heard, his run as President has fucked up education even more than before, and that shit wasn't great throughout Obama's run either to my understanding. And when this hollow and meaningless rhetoric is challenged, the response is swift and strong - "You're a shill", "Triggered liberal crybaby, can't handle the real world", saying that whoever opposes Trump is the real problem.

To my knowledge, a grand majority of people on Sanctuary are just regular folks who get together and talk to each other - occasionally getting together to troll people on here, because that's a fun thing to do I guess.

Drama happens to every group, and Sanctuary has been in a weird spot because someone got doxxed really bad. Is CEchat with Bok Choi a cult when he posts 8 troll topics in a row? Is The Underground Garden discord a cult? No - they're collections of people chatting to each other, telling people about their lives, occasionally falling out or going into a bad emotional state. The same is true for Sanctuary, or any online group of friends really.

Honestly, I feel like Waluigi as a meme has run its course. Waluigi Time was funny for a while, but it's been long enough.

Smash fans yelled and screamed and pleaded for Ridley for years, and they finally got him in Smash. The team seemed to think that he was too big, but they shrunk him down anyway and put him in the game anyway to create hype. So now the fanbase is turning to yelling and screaming and pleading for Waluigi. It's a never-ending cycle of Smash fans being unsatisfied with what they have - even when they get every character they've been campaigning for, they always want more.

At least Ridley has some credit towards being a badass. People wanted him in the game because he was cool, and while the whole movement to get him in Smash became something of a meme itself, Ridley still has some cool factor to him. He's a deadly dragon who runs a space pirate gang and can go toe to toe with one of the galaxy's best bounty hunters - that description is why people wanted to fight with him. Waluigi is just a meme, and he's overstayed his welcome. He can't offer anything else aside from being a meme, and I doubt he'd add a great deal to the roster.

Just make him a skin for Luigi with some new moves, if anything.
