When I look at the homogenization of WWE, it really doesn't have too much to do with appearance. We've got a couple more monster-types coming along behind Strowman. We got small guys, medium guys, athletic guys, "average" guys... the problem is in everything else. The problem is in poor writing of dialogue that doesn't differentiate between characters except for catchphrases. The problem is in the "WWE style" of match becoming so limited that men's matches, women's matches, tag matches... they all start to look the same. I can feel a difference in styles on Impact. I can feel a difference in styles on New Japan. I feel it less and less in WWE.

Would strongly disagree that it's all the writing

Khali's matches generally felt different too. Even the ones with no build or anything, which clearly the writing has nothing to do with. Khali was so ridiculously limited in the ring that matches had to be structured entirely differently to work in any sort of sense. Also because he moved so slowly his moves had a sense of impact that you just don't see very much-- it also gave him an extremely glaring weakness that his opponent would work around to beat him.

Also Khali's promos were hilarious in their incoherence. Getting him a translator was the beginning of the end for the guy.

Like you'll never ever see a Khali match that's more than like 2 stars. But I'd rather see a 2 star Khali match than a 2 star Ziggler match every time. It's just going to provide a different feel than anything on the show, even if it's not very good. And if you're doing throwaway matches on Raw that's good enough.

Well I mean it's one thing to go from like 10/10 to 6/10

Another entirely to go from 10/10 to 1/10

World views shift a bit, but turning so drastically makes me take all your lists as practically insincere to be honest. Like I like em for a spectacle but I can't really be too upset about the content cause it's all going to flip on its head in a week anyway

It's reasonable to change your opinions slightly over time.

Going full 180 is kinda really weird though I'm not gonna lie. Especially when you were 16 or 17-- you'd think you'd have some maturity to your opinions. Like the only person I ever knew who did that was like 8.

This parade has been pretty rough so far. 2 SSBs for characters I don't use much (Hope and Larsa), a dupe Y'sh Legend Materia, and a Gladiolus (another guy I don't use) Legend Materia

At least the Larsa one is a hastega that heals everyone-- can see it being useful for FF12 content at least.

Mario 3's diverse world locales give it a lot more character. I've always had a lot more fun playing it than World. Everything in World kinda mushes together to me-- you don't really have the same sense of progression in Mario World that you get in 3. Forest of Illusion is probably the only cool part of the game that isn't a Bowser Castle or Ghost House for me. But in terms of being memorable even it doesn't really touch many of the worlds in Mario 3.

Also dumb gimmicky Star Road bonus stuff aside it's significantly more difficult on average, and Mario is a game that desperately needs what little difficulty it has I feel.

Or in other words 3 > World forever.

Earth bound, man.

I don't hate it but I think I agree with HM's take on it from that 4/10 review more than this one.

And I grew up on those archaic RPGs the menus and combat system are designed around so it ain't that. What it's missing compared to those games is that the world is a lot less fun to just explore-- lacks the feeling of mystery and scale that something like Dragon Warrior or Final Fantasy has. It's basically a (relatively) modern styled RPG with an archaic coat of paint on it which is kinda the worst way I think.

Hard to really get into the plot either cause the game is never taking itself even a little seriously-- more balanced writing would have helped it a lot I think. I actually like the style it has but pulling it back a bit more than like twice in the game would be nice.

Those damn eagles are exactly what I was thinking of and let me just clarify for any uninitiated readers that they are in a lot more than level 2! (I still love Ninja Gaiden but gotta call a spade a spade)

I wasn't thinking of anything in particular with RNG, but it does happen a lot in NES games-- most of them are garbage like Back to the Future or Simpsons games or whatever. FF1 is probably the worst example that isn't too obscure or garbage. The encounter charts and ambushes, paralysis. Ugh. The damn blocks that come out of the wall and bean you at the start of Stage 4 of Double Dragon 1 also-- I've heard people say they're not RNG and I refuse to believe it. (And I love both of those games too!)

Mega Man 2 is great. I prefer Mega Man 3 cause I gotta slide everywhere. I also feel like tend to remember less annoying stuff from there-- there are some appearances by the obnoxious blocks but nothing like trying Heat Man without Item 2. MM3 being the first one I played and owned probably also is a factor but you know.

Both really good games though. Both of them and Mega Man 5 will always be very fondly remembered as top games in the NES library.

I think you're underrating Mega Man 2's difficulty though. Like it feels really easy once you know how to play it, but I think it's because the game is fairly low on BS tricks particularly compared to its peers on the NES-- like if you know how to beat a section there's no RNG you need to account for or unexpected cheapness with enemy spawns and the like that the game will pull on you. Also unlike a lot of NES Games you're not fighting the controls cause it controls perfectly. It's the type of game that will be difficult on a first playthrough but when you know what you're doing you can bullseye it every time. Which is a good thing!

Owl is easily the winner over the others. I don't think Soren's stat spread is exactly great for Owl tome, but like it's extremely easy to have one adjacent unit almost all the time, which will give you +2 all stats

Alternatively you can go with +2 SPD +2 HP
Or +1 ATK +2 HP

+2 to both defensive stats is in the worst case equal to +2 HP, so really it's +2 SPD +2 ATK vs +1 ATK vs +2 SPD.

If you can get more adjacent units it's gravy, but as someone who uses a Gronnowl+ Robin F regularly getting 1 adjacent unit is very easy and honestly getting two is a lot more likely than 0.

I will say that while the PS2 is my favorite console, it's not largely due to the RPGs on it, as evidenced by the fact that I've haven't played over half the games I listed there. By that time most of my RPG playing was on portables. PS1 is definitely the peak for RPGs for me. One of the portables would probably be #2. SNES and PS2 have their good entries but are fairly top-heavy.

Don't really think it has anything to do with rushed voice acting or cutscenes or whatever else though. If anything I would say that plagues the big releases on the PS1 more than the PS2-- like the FF games there are practically glacial.

FFX & Persona 4 would beat CT & FFVI & Lufia 2 for me at the top end.

On the quantity end between Suikoden V (some like III too), Kingdom Hearts 1&2 (if you count them), Disgaea 1&2, Xenosaga, Shadow Hearts, Breath of Fire games, Wild Arms games, Tales of the Abyss you're well stocked. I can't speak for the quality of the last few as I never got around to anything at or after Xenosaga, but there's a fair amount of potentially good well regarded games there even if a lot of em aren't clicking for each individual person.

they're 1 and 2 for me, RPG-wise!

SNES that's not bad, practically expected aside from the Earthbound or Mario RPG weirdos. I'd put Lufia 2 in, probably between FFVI and CT. Maybe at #1. There isn't much other competition on the SNES. FFIV on the SNES wasn't great-- its 3DS version is but that's a very different game. FFV would be but I consider it a PS1/GBA game more than an SNES one even if it should be an SNES game. Nothing else really registers. I like Breath of Fire more than most people but CT is better than that one.

I suspect that's all time though, where I would disagree a lot more. As an RPG machine I'd put the SNES below the PS1, PS2, and even the GBA, DS and 3DS. CT might not even make a top 20 RPGs list for me when I think about it. Probably would but it'd be towards the tail end.

I really disliked it.

Emilia Clarke is a terrible Sarah Conner, Jai Cortney is a terrible actor, and Arnold is like 70. Also the plot is convoluted and makes no sense. Also its PG13.

Agree with all this though I'd be a bit less down on Arnold being 70 (it was rationalized enough that I was okay with it) and a bit more down on Jason Clark as well.

Basically the whole movie was horribly cast. I think in theory it would've been salvageable even with the contrived plot but it just wasn't to be.

I like my fair share of old games. It is true that most of the absolute top tier for me is from the PS2 and PS1 eras, but I wouldn't say I'm the type to scoff at NES and SNES stuff. I am a bit more down on the more popular stuff, like I don't care much for Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Countrys, or a lot of the SNES RPGs, and my favorite Zelda game is Zelda 2 Adventure of Link (I do actually like LttP a lot too though)

The Castlevanias, Ninja Gaidens, Double Dragons, and Mega Mans from the NES are mostly awesome. SNES has some great stuff too, though most of it came later in its life. Lufia 2, Tetris Attack, Kirby Super Star-- pretty sure these all came 95 or later, along with the two I already approved of appearing in 1994.

Super Metroid and FFVI in particular hold special places for me in the SNES library I got those two together (did I get anything else that Christmas? I'm not sure!) during maybe my most happy Christmas I remember. I played the hell out of em.

Chrono Trigger is another one of those games I'm kinda down on. I do like the game (and to this day it remains the first RPG I'd recommend a non RPG person play because it's simple, but not overly so, and very well paced) but a lot less than most people. It doesn't do a lot wrong, but at the same time it doesn't really reach any great highs for me-- in large part because I think the cast is a bit wooden. I was always in the FFVI camp when comparing the two.

Katie's Rachel was basically a naive headstrong idealist. I'm not a fan of Katie Holmes but I think she played the role she needed to pretty passably.

Maggie's had less naivete and more of a cockiness to her. It wasn't really gelling with her intended role in the movie I felt, and I felt it had more to do with the delivery than the dialogue. She came off as more bitchy than any sort of sympathetic or likable figure.
