With the way devs are acting these days I'd probably leave in disgust before I even saw anything, sheesh.

So Target is running a buy one, get half off another sale on 3DS games, featuring nothing spectacular, but it got me thinking about what I missed from 2016. Turns out there's a load of weird standalone JRPGs...but they're mostly chibi, which I still haven't learned how to stomach...

Radiant Historia looks pretty slick though, sprites being timeless and all.

Lately I've been on a manga kick so getting these out of storage and looking back at what I read from age eleven to seventeen is pretty neat, but at the same time, having too much physical stuff can really weigh on one's spirit.

Not pictured is the collection of Western trade paperbacks I bought a few years after Jump stopped printing, and that I'm so sick of seeing I'd give away for clear space again.

Yeah 1996. It wasn't released outside Japan because Snatcher was and performed poorly. Like Zone of the Enders, I think it would have been better as an anime than a game tbh.

Shoot I didn't see your post, don't think I'm a jerk or anythin'. Well to clarify, Policenauts is kind of a VN, in the sense it's text dense as Kojima writes, but it's also kind of a point and click adventure game, in that ninety percent of the time, you're exploring the world through your cursor.

Probably back in the day, it'd be exclusively classified as the latter, but nowadays I can't help but feel it's a bit prototypical of what eventually solidified as the visual novel genre.

I agree there. My end time was about eight hours, so Pnauts is definitely something that could be played in a weekend.

Ultimately my main complaint is that there wasn't any side stuff to do, which led to pacing problems in the second half.

Also for being the cream of the cops, holy crap the main characters are stupid.

Finished Policenauts, probably won't ever play it again. Too short for a VN, too stupid for a Kojima game. The animation and designs were probably the best parts.

I recall Azure Rathalos is pretty airborne for a lot of the fight. Flying and fireballs. Pink Rathian is worse imho.

Almost done with Pnauts. It went from zero to sixty way too fast in terms of pacing. Prologue/Act 1/Act 2 took me four hours I'd reckon but I've burned through 3/4/5 in half that time.

Mm, I meant more in the sense of, they sort of co-opted CD-ROMs. Like instead of buying a game and installing off disc, these days it's more like (at least in my experience), buy the disc to download off Steam.

I never put much stock in Steam or Valve, to be totally honest. They basically killed disc-based PC games, which really sucks for someone who prefers physical media.

I've got one more question about Pretty Cure, if you don't mind answering (here or by PM, whichever you'd prefer).

Since the series are distinct from each other (meaning the franchise sounds closer to Gundam than One Piece), what would you say is your underrated favorite? Cause in my experience, I enjoy those sort of shows more than the stuff held in high esteem.
