I'll look for it, IIRC the conditions were newer/not mecha/stuff you'd rated highly on MAL. I think it started with Kill La Kill and had one of those really popular magical girl shows too.

Finished Heaven and Earth. I liked seeing Vier again for five seconds and the Zero was slick too.

Overall, I'd say the series has been pretty solid up to this point. Now I've gotta figure out the best way to watch Exodus.

Finished Right of Left. It was so-so. I would've enjoyed it more if it was a proper prequel about established characters like Mizoguchi's group or even Michio's instead of being some random kid, his "girlfriend" and that one pilot who died in episode one. Anyway, the Titans were cool.

Nearly done with series one. Maya is finally piloting. Koyo woke up.

I think I've got seven or eight episodes left but the Festum are really gonna have to pull out all the stops to be a threat since the Island has what, seven Fafner now, not to mention Tsubaki the magic island master. Situation seems more one-sided than a 70's super robot show.

After that, Right of Left, then the movie. Then I'll look into Exodus. And isn't there a new series coming out soon?

Also Goubein is best. Mark Drei is probably my favorite Fafner though, orange robots are underrated.

Question for the Anime General audience here.

1. Would you consider Cowboy Bebop a 10?

SPOILERS KINDA FOR CB

2. Does the lack of a true ending for Bebop hurt your overall opinion of it?

3. Does the fact that many episodes do not further the overall narrative make it feel too long or just "filler" in your mind?

1. I would say it's pretty high up there. Not really any great faults I can think of.

2. No. The show was oddball enough to get away with it, and the best endings always leave you thinking. My head canon is Vicious died and the leader-less mob survives only by propping up Spike.

3. No again. It has a good mix of MotW and story stuff. Honestly I can't think of a Sunrise show with better pacing, and I've seen a lot of them.

How's the Valfalk fight in XX? Since it's getting localized I might actually play it if I ever get a Switch, and Valfalk interests me more than any monster from X and XX.

It's really fun. He's by far the best Elder Dragon. The only other time I felt the monster could keep up to or even outpace me, besides the very first time I fought Zinogre in 3U.

Episode three done.




This was neat direction. Also these two are my favorites so far.

Some interesting ruminations I'll spoiler:

So Tokyo is gone, according to last ep, and I'd understand why the island was hiding from the damage/Festum. But why avoid the U.N.? Did the rest of humanity give in to the Festum?

Also episode three and Mark Elf is already flying. Kinda mind-blowing considering something like Lindwurm took half the series to show up back in 0079. Though it looks a ton better than the godawful G-Armor.

Anyway, so far so good. I love the launching/battle theme. Brass section is the key for hyping a fight.

I'll never watch it again tbh, it's fine enough but Gainax doesn't do "original" very well.

Finished Tetsujin 2004. It was only ok; too slow for the first sixteen episodes with only four as highlights, then picked up an actual plot for the back half only to screw up hard in the end. The movie basically repeated the same mistakes. Themes were solid though.

MHXX, I've got to fight Shagaru Magala in village to continue. But I've taken it upon myself to grind Stonefist Hermitaur into crab dust cuz he's a joke to fight and his armor looks cool.

Anyway.

Nah the meteor's nothing, it was just getting outpaced by his rokketo panchi and dashes in general. I switched over to SnS and kicked his ass without a single cart so it's all good.

The fight was pretty fun with that. Interrupting his recharge/ energy intake was a pretty cool way of subverting the usual "monster tired and must eat" deal. And taking chip damage from his take-off as opposed to stumbling from wind pressure was consistent with the whole "living rocket" aesthetic.

Cart, cart, quit. He's literally too tall for DBs to consistently hit on anything except legs. I have to rethink this strategy.

I use Aerial DBs for cheesing all the monsters I hate, none of the early gens can handle it. Even stuff from 4 isn't used to mounting when it's happening far from ledges.

But yeah, fast monsters and ADB don't mix. I'll probably just switch to the basic style cause my muscle memory is still pretty good with Demon Dodge and such. Got Artian made anyway. Time to fight Valfalk.

I'm stockpiling Fragments for Artian while I grind through Hub's key quests atm. He seems like he'll be fun but I'm switching off Aerial DBs to do it. The jump is too damn slow for faster monsters.

Finished GitS:SAC today. Tachikoma...

Also trying to burn through Tetsujin 2004. It was slow through episode 16 but then everything seems to have picked up for the finale.

And once I'm done with that, it'll be back to Fafner. Phew!

@SDBZ @GiftedACIII I got Fafner. Gonna watch a few episodes at lunch today. I also see @Cookie_Bag has ripped through the show. How's the second series so far?

What else is up...CHU3 was alright but this show is seriously the slowest paced stuff I've ever seen. Well, maybe slow paced isn't right. Three in and what's even happened, is what I'm getting at. At least Nat-chan is getting suspicious, though I don't see it ending well for her.

Got to Barioth in XX. Carted twice in first five minutes because unlike a good chunk of the newer and older monsters, Aerial DBs is terrible against him. I switched to basic Long Sword for the second hunt and maybe got chip damage once, so I'm glad I haven't totally lost it.

So I'm going through village High Rank and I gotta say, it's getting to be a real drag. I'd like to forge some new armor but nothing seems worth it yet. Rocket dragon looks like it'll be interesting, if I can manage to get there.

Also read some Go Nagai stuff today cause of CHU, though it was mostly Devilman and Mazinger. Amon had some alright moments and the Getter Robo crossover was cool, but the real highlight of the day has been Mazinger Angels. As I've always figured, manga is better without the main character.

@SDBZ I'm looking forward to watching too. IIRC it repped in SRW K, which was my first entry in that most excellent game series. So even though I'm still waiting to get the discs, Fafner's starting out in a favorable position.

Watched the second episode of Cutie Honey Universe. It was alright but didn't really go anywhere. The hospital scene and everything with her father were again, quite similar to the original manga. Pretty much the two main differences are Genet and Honey's identity not being secret.

Just playing XX and waiting for Fafner, other than that.
