You can't just jam a NES cartridge into your PC and play because the cartridge is read using different rules than your computer OS An emulator is basically a big program that simulates the OS of the console, and that program can then work with the data of the NES game --- |

You can argue that the corporate 'CONSUME' smart decision is to try and get players to pay for more content in the game. But that doesn't make it a disgusting and disheartening decision from the perspective of the consumer. Continued support of a videogame is not only to spoonfeed Day 1 buyers that are still playing the game 15 years later. That's not even playerbases in long-supported games work. The point of continuing support for a videogame is to keep a game interesting and evolving, keeping the community invested and as a result attracting new purchasers who want to join the game and community. If you step into a Day of Defeat server it's probably going to be mostly long-time veterans because it's an old game that's not truly supported anymore, nothing attracts new players. Minecraft continues to sell insane amounts of copies so there's no reason to make players pay to have a skin now besides the desire to nickel n dime additional money from the playerbase, old and new. --- |
