So why have the expectation that other people who are not techs should be on your level?

I don't. I expect an adult that can function enough to get a job to have basic troubleshooting skills. "program not working? maybe i should restart the computer before calling IT. headset not working? maybe i should check it has charge". stuff like that. I shouldn't have to hand-hold a 40-something year old man how to change his password when he receives an email every day 14 days in advance with a step by step guide with pictures showing him how to do it. this is why your IT department hates you.

Those are fine things to be annoyed about but I think you misunderstand this topic. I work in the IT department.

if you dont want your IT department to hate you, don't be an incompetent with no tech literacy
and don't call up and ignore their advice. they tell you to make your your computer is plugged in for a reason. and that reason is you.

This highlights the crux of the problem to me. You're a tech because that's your profession. You're the person with the skillset and experience, the person providing the expertise in the situation. So why have the expectation that other people who are not techs should be on your level?

That's like a chef being annoyed at his customers because they don't know how to make a duck confit at home by themselves so they came to the restaurant to eat it. It's weird.

I understand if you give advice and it's ignored, but I don't understand the immediate hostility some techs have to anyone who's not technically minded. Your end user employs you exactly for that reason.

Anyway I wasn't even talking about techs and customer interactions here, I was talking about techs talking to other techs.

What problems does the uk have

- Delusions of grandeur, many people believe we're still the Great British Empire and not just a tiny nation of shopkeepers and academics
- Massive class divide
- Brexit, because of the two above reasons mainly
- No actual industry
- A lot of people not understanding there's no actual industry and just waiting patiently for it to appear again
- Most politics are designed to benefit London with little regard for the rest
- Way too relaxed opinions towards surveillance
- NHS is imploding and no one is quite sure how to fix it but everyone still wants it to stick around
- increasing amounts of jingoism and nationalism on various ends of the spectrum
- These tory fucks in power who point to all the usual suspects when things go wrong but don't actually fix the actual reasons. Someone gets stabbed lets increase regulation on knives, someone gets raped lets ban porn. Someone has a drug problem let's lock them up. Those tired old arguments.

And no it's not always because they're right and everyone else is stupid.

Watching an email conversation right now between two techs from different companies. The chief goal of this conversation doesn't seem to be focused on actually being solution orientated but really just seeing who can swing their dick around the most impressively.

If you're an IT tech the single best career advice I can give you is up your interpersonal skills and don't reflexively treat all other people with as much hostility as you can muster

Friend of mine went for six months on a work-related trip, did his best to make the most of his time there (unlike his workmates who refused to sample the culture and might as well have not gone) and came back with a heap of great stories to tell us. Most were hilarious, some were bad at the time but he could still laugh about them afterwards.

Purely from how he talks about his time there, i'm guessing you'll have a blast.

He also wouldn't recommend it to me on the basis of the skin colour prejudice he saw while there, but that's another issue.

I really don't understand people who go to somewhere else and just live life as if they're at home. Like they go eat at Wagamamas and McDonalds and spend their time in a sports bar that could be anywhere in the world and still be exactly the same.

But thanks for the tip!

You're trying to just keep all of this stuff in your mind like, how does it all work together? Recently, I realized that there's this other pillar of diversity. That's just as important as any one of these other pillars. I've kind of empowered people on the team that have made this their top priority."
Druckmann singled out Naughty Dog lead concept character artist Ashley Swidowski, whom he said is "constantly challenging me and pushing for diversity in our cast."

When designing new characters, Swidowski asks Druckmann things like "Can this be a person of color?" and "Can this be a woman?"

Because that's exactly what it is

Ok so to clarify

This annoys you why? A fictional plot has a level of cultural relevance?

I actually really don't understand your beef here. A character is gay and you're the only person here who is bothered but you're reassuring us that you don't care if someone is gay. Something something sjws.

Why do you have to take a lesbian relationship as a statement?

Because that's how it was used. Ellie has been gay, this has been known for some time. But now it's being used as a selling and marketing point. Let me put it this way. If you walked into the Sony conference with zero knowledge on the Last of Us, you don't walk away from that trailer going "Oh Last of Us is that zombie game" or "Last of Us is that survival game" you walk out going "Last of Us is that game with the gay girl."

Actually I already have zero knowledge of the last of us (never played it, just saw this traiker) and what I saw was a story driven game with stunning gameplay.

You're making a thing out of something that is not a thing. While you're sitting there treating this like a grand statement or SJW agenda the rest of us are interested in how the game is going to turn out.

Her relationship with the other chick might be central to the plot, you don't know.

Once again, Ellie being gay is essential to the way the trailer was laid out yet her being gay had nothing to do with the plot of the trailer. If you swap out Ellie's girlfriend for a man then it becomes padded with even more unnecessary fluff.

Maybe the romance is a centre plot in the game? Do you even know? You actually don't, because we don't know what the plot is yet.

I just found them blocking up the entirety of their garage. They haven't thrown them out. They're holding onto them, "just in case", and for "sentimental reasons".

How much fucking sentimental value is in a broken couch, jesus christ.

This isn't just about the couch. The entire house is falling apart and dad refuses to let me help them with repairs because he's oddly attached to broken things. Like the wallpaper is literally falling off the walls and he doesn't want to rip it down and paint over it, because it reminds him of the 70s.
