Even if the FBI had more thoroughly investigated the tip it got, its unlikely that that investigation would have enough evidence to take action under Floridas civil commitment laws. Without clear evidence of an immediate threat to commit violence, there was simply no basis (under Floridas civil laws, which are admittedly some of the weakest in the nation in this regard) to detain Nikolas Cruz for a mental health examination. And Floridas firearm laws make it impossible to take a firearm away from someone who has not yet actually committed a crime.

And I do not support laws that make it easier to deny a person their freedom on the allegation of that theyre mentally ill. Ive seen these laws abused far too many times. The solution to this issue is not to be found in giving the police more power to restrict peoples freedom.

Im not convinced crime will go down. We have extreme examples of places where guns are banned and places where guns are not banned. Theres no direct correlation with crime and gun ownership. Having more guns does not mean more violence and having guns also does not mean we have less violence. Liberals and conservative are arguing in circles.

Mental health is a bigger issue and funding should be supercharged in those areas. Conservatives are doing a bad job ignoring public health and liberals need to bring that energy to issues that have the most impact. Banning guns is a lazy solution. Not doing anything is even lazier. Poverty and poor mental health results in crime and thats true worldwide.

This whole gun debate is ridiculous. Ten years ago we wouldnt be having this conversation.

The other day a friend of mine asked for $10. He was in Vegas and supposedly didnt get paid until the end of the day. So he didnt have any money. I quickpayd him $10. Knowing him I wasnt expecting the money back despite all the begging and promises. 10 bucks no big deal.

Next week I teased him about my $10 bucks because he broke his promise. I hate asking for my money. His excuses annoyed me and I couldn't bother myself asking again.

The other time he seriously needed money. This time at least $650. He would pay me by the end of the week. And he did. Only not in full and he had an attitude instead of being grateful I saved his ass. I figured I wont ask him again because its a burden to our friendship. In my mind, i just let him have it because fighting over $650 is not worth risking our friendship. After that he mysteriously disappears. He stopped blowing up my phone every other day.

Eventually he paid in full 2 months later without me asking. I was impressed. He's very opportunistic, so this was a change.

Not even a week later he asks for $9,000. Yup $9,000. I dont know why anyone needs $9,000 upfront. I got pissed because its insulting. If I cant trust you with $10 bucks and $ 650 bucks, forget $9000. I have known him since high-school but I had to cut ties. Sucks because I dont have much friends but damn some people are just entitled parasites.
