there was an episode of The Orville where an entire planet runs society like it's reddit. everyone gets to vote on everything, and the masses just on a whim decide things. the episode paints it in a bad light, and the main character of the show criticizes the planet's society in one scene while talking to a native.

Is that similar to that one Black Mirror episode with Bryce Dallas Howard?

As a huge roald dahl fan I consider the movie complete garbage, because the book was my childhood (and of course way way better)

Hell, I like the 2005 movie simply because the better cgi helps, and the wonka-dad angle hits pretty close to home for those who've actually seen the movie (chris lee > all). The only outwardly offensive thing is the music with that ugly guy that plays the wonka slaves. Jesus christ so hideous, such a bad decision, and usually tim burton movies excel in the soundtrack/music department.

lots of good points TC. that is why I hate reddit. it's not really built for true discussion. reddit is not much better than just reading youtube comments. and the downvoting is a very stupid idea. I don't mind upvotes. they do that in other boards like on the official World of Warcraft forums. but if you also have a downvote, I think that ruins discussions. all an upvote does is say "some people really liked this" but a downvote buries the post and it's nothing more than bullying. anyone can downvote something for no reason at all.

It really is just the youtube comments section without an accompanying video isn't it. Too many times it seems people on there think the thumbs down option is for a comment or opinion that they disagree with, instead of actually replying to said comment and debating accordingly.

Different people are on at different times. Also, in some subs, certain users have negative reputations that impact all their posts

That's probably for the less active ones, for usernames to be recognized like that. Not familiar with them too much/haven't found ones pertaining to my interest yet. I'm mostly commenting on the more general big boards like games, movies, television, etc that can have topics either with 10,000 comments, or a topic that no one pays attention to.

- Insanely more active than dead message boards such as this, yet its format does not really stimulate discussion.

- A post that says one thing could be downvoted to hell. That same post, in the exact same topic, posted at a later time, could be upvoted to high heaven. They're literally saying the exact same thing, but one gets the thumbs down arrow and one gets the thumbs up arrow. What? Why? How?

- Real actors, game developers, real people from the real world actually post on it with AMAs and shit, which is so weird to think about when internet forums were mostly for nobodies and no one famous had ever been on them ever.

So despite the fact that its thumbs up format leads to hivemind and no real way to facilitate a discussion on a topic, you actually see the actors of a tv show post on the board, like izombie reddit actually had ravi's actor on it, or greta gerwig actually made an ask her some things topic on the movie reddit board. That, to me, is pretty darn strange.

Why are so many people on it when their post will probably be buried under literally 10,000 comments. Why bother commenting at that point?

Out of curiosity, even if he did have a job how would he not accomplish this? Let's say a job is around 8 hours, a 9 to 5 job. He could go and then come back home and be off to bed. Now, as for having any semblance of a personal life and activities to do, then you'd have a point. But in a 24 hour day cycle one could definitely sleep 12 hours and work 8 (or 10 if you count an hour going and hour returning from work)

It's neither an age thing nor a visual impairment thing; text really is that small. It just is. I noticed it 10 years ago when I entered gen 7 and been noticing it ever since; regardless of age.

Especially when I experiment and realize that the font in 4:3 and avi cables on an HDTV actually makes everything, from font to just the entire image on screen, much larger compared to 16:9 and HDMI cables, which shrinks the image on screen in order to put more images (which is stupid as fuck, I don't want to see more of something if it's smaller, I'd rather see just enough and then you know, tilt the camera or whatever for a pan scan if I want to see more)

You'd think that with the console basically being a gen 6ish console, they would have the decency to put text reflective of gen 6's text size, the last gen with accept font size for menus, ui, hud, etc just all manner of text.

Also, I didn't think HDTV would matter since Wii used regular avi cables instead of HDMI?

You really think so? That would mean that not only are Sony's proprietary memory cards a piece of shit scammy garbage, but they're also faulty? Because I just bought this off amazon and I'm sure it's the official one so I have no idea why it would even have an issue.

I remember I had this issue, turns out it's an issue arising from improperly removing/handling the memory card. It could be different though - I would google the error code and see what it brings up for you. If you just bought it from Amazon though, they'll replace it.

Maybe I will ask them thanks!

Movie is kind of a depressing waste of time in that sense.

The real ending is even more depressing.

Pocahontas leaves on a ship to england to meet John Smith but he's not there. She gets news that there was a gunpowder explosion on John Smith's ship and he never made it back. She ends up marrying some random guy named John Rolfe. Then later John Smith shows back up and is like all "fuck I survived" all Tom Hanks castaway style and Pocahontas who is like married with kids to Rolfe at this point is like "dude what the fuck?" and that's the end.

Yeah that too. And the whole what eventually happens to native americans in the coming 300 years thing.

Also if the best thing about Hercules is that it gave us the secret boss fights of the coliseum in kh 1 then... yeah. Speaks for itself. And of course James Woods Hades is the best thing to come out of that movie. As much as I liked Pocy as a kid with all those hot main characters it just doesn't have that, something good that came out of the movie.

At least, if we consider the 90s to be Disney Renaissance up until 1999 with Tarzan and Fantasia 2000.

James Woods as Hades probably props up Hercules pretty high above Pocahontas, which only has the color of the winds song as any good, and maybe savages. While Hercules screws up greek mythology, that's the least of the movie's problems and not as bad as screwing up real life events likes Pocy did.

I still feel ambivalent about many elements of Hercules. Stuff like Megara's whole deal and Hercules being the only white bread goody two shoes I've never liked (when that archetype is my absolute favorite in shows and movies) and the soundtrack, which I could go either way with praising or finding annoying depending on my mood.

Pocahontas has a lot going against it. Like a lot. Stuff that was ok as a kid isn't nearly as fun, endearing or charming like the talking tree and the animals and mel gibson's John Smith. And the movie just has... no point. Like by the end it was like... what was the point of the movie? JS and the white men sail away on their ship, and Pocy watches them leave. Movie is kind of a depressing waste of time in that sense.

Those are more or less the 2 duds of that era, but even being duds in that era isn't so bad when they've got great art and soundtrack sometimes.
