Everyone always asks if the lord of the rings trilogy are worth reading, but no one seems to ask if the chronicles of narnia books are worth reading, despite CS Lewis and Tolkien being friends and probably influencing each other.

If you think about it, Turkish Delight was basically the One Ring.

That's probably because LotR had a very successful movie trilogy and Narnia sorta kinda dropped off after Prince Caspian.

Did they even make any other movies afterwards?

Narnia is a much better-written series, too. Partially because CS Lewis was a master at layered humor.

CoN had less useless filler. They usually only dragged after the climax while tying up all the loose ends.

I honestly never finished reading LotR as a kid, because it was so long and sometimes boring for long stretches. Though I'm sure the 7 CoN books are all together a decent bit longer.

They made The Voyage of the Dawn Treaderin 2010.
The Silver Chair is supposed to be filmed in late 2018.

Huh, I didn't know that. I just assumed they stopped making them after Prince Caspian.

Disney left after the second movie and Fox did the third.
Then the license expired and nobody could touch it for a couple of years for some reason, and now Sony is making the fourth movie, or something like that.

I think it's more like nobody wanted to touch it. Disney screwed the series by desperately wanting the 2005 lion witch wardrobe movie to be the next lord of the rings, and advertising it as such instead of a kids' movie.

Narnia is amazing, the sense of wonder and childhood spirit in those books isn't like anything else. Makes me wish I hadn't given up on the genre, almost.

I remember that years ago I picked up the final Narnia book in a middle school class of mine and I ended up finishing it thinking it was cool as hell. Years after that I saw the first movie and the dots connecting the two didn't quite click until I finally saw Aslan.

No, it was a moratorium placed on the C. S. Lewis estate's right to sell the books' film option.
Waldon Media failed at renegotiating their contract at 2011 because the C. S. Lewis estate disliked the direction of the future movies, and The Mark Gordon Company got it in late 2013.

It's the first chronologically, but not the first first. For any medium in any industry, I go release order always, not what is edited after-the-fact.

I think I heard something like that.

But are the movies really the reason people ask about the lotr books over the narnia books?
