The purpose of food is to sate hunger.

The purpose of a book is to give knowledge.

The purpose of a gun is to kill. At its core that's what it is designed for. Regardless of your feelings.

You can use a car to kill.

You can withhold food to starve a person to death. Or poison them with it.

You can use a book to teach people how to kill. Without literacy warfare wouldn't be where it is today.

You're trying to reduce these facets of life into nice little sugar-coated categories like its Sesame Street but the human brain is more advanced than that. It's reductive reasoning and I don't mean to be an argumentative asshole about this... but it is dishonest in a way.

And to be clear I'm not saying a firearm is equivalent to those elements you mentioned. You mentioned them so I'm addressing them based on their potential power and potential purpose.

I'm not really disputing the intent of the creation of firearms, the escalation of warfare, finding advantage in battle, which is ugly and brutal whether it's for offense or defense... but the line is misleading.

They said the information wasn't forwarded to them. They didn't even say whether they could have acted on it.

If it had been forwarded to their field office then it would have been acted on. It would have been investigated. That's the purpose of sending the information to a field office.
