Yeah

The big reason I really want the ACA killed outright is because I think it's just a bad idea. It beats literally nothing but trying to equate Healthcare and Health Insurance just feels like an exercise in futility to me. Insurance having deductibles kinda breaks the system right off for effectively treating poor people, who are the people who need standardized health care the most, because the people who are really having a financially rough time are going to put off health care until it reaches a critical point because they can't afford it even with "insurance" because of the deductible. And they have less money to spend on things they need because of this. So on average their quality of life is going to be way lower.

Medicaid and Medicare were closer to the right idea there. I guess they were not economically feasible, or didn't cover enough people or whatever, but for the few people they worked for they actually worked and they did it without causing undue burden to people. I mean, there are problems there too in that you don't want to make people eager to go to the doctor either, so there should probably be some limit to the amount of outright free treatment you get as well-- like my friend's mom was covered my medicaid in the 90s and she would go to the doctor all the time for the most stupid stuff. I guarantee you that people like her are a big part of the reason medicaid and medicare are not economically viable. But I do think they were closer to the right idea.

I mean even the people who like the ACA and are the primary beneficiaries I don't think are fully satisfied with it-- never mind the people who are just getting screwed over by it.

Medicaid definitely used to be a lot better for the lowest class having lived through it getting gutted. Of course there was also a better welfare and stuff too so yeah really poor people had it a lot better back then-- not this is by any stretch a fault of the ACA. Most of the gutting happened in the Clinton administration IIRC.

Medicare I can't really speak for, but I do know at some point during Obama's presidency my mom was only able to go to a local "clinic" when she used to have options, and said "clinic" is garbage for actually treating your ailments and prefers to just throw pills at you without properly diagnosing you-- basically only the cheapest options were covered by medicare and the cheapest options aren't actual good healthcare.

Keep in mind I'm speaking about the very lowest class, who I think were the only ones covered by medicaid in the 90s. I can't speak for like, lower middle class health care, but yeah I'm pretty sure my mom would've probably died from blood poisoning if this is how health care was when I was a kid.

I'm not certain but i dont think the aca has anything to do with Medicare getting gutted. Please prove me wrong.

I'm not sure either-- I do know I would take the state of medicare/medicaid in the 90s over the ACA though, which I mean, if you want a better option than the ACA there's one right there.

My mom doesn't get penalized nor does she get health insurance. Her expenses haven't gone up as she's still "covered" by medicare but her quality of care has gone down because what medicare covers went down. It's more friends who are getting battered by expenses than my mom. My mom just hates it because medicare/medicaid were gutted at some point.

Well I'm not saying mine is the standard either

I just know that there are a lot of income windows where someone simply can't afford $150 or $240 a month, but it's still less than 8% of their income. Particularly if you have a lot of debts.

Well there are a few things there.

1. I don't know exactly how health insurance pricing works, but your 240 estimate is not standard. I personally am taking the penalty to avoid paying about I dunno, about 150 a month. It probably varies a lot depending on where you live-- I imagine it hurts poor rural people a lot more because the cost of health insurance relative to the cost of living is proportionately much higher, but also minimum wages are lower because of the lower costs of living, so yeah there ends up being a lot less wiggle room. Like growing up my mom would have loved 17000 a year. Hell she still would. Even with what support I can provide she doesn't have that.

2. A lot of poor people do mismanage their money a great deal. Go figure!

3. The exemption isn't super easy for people to know about. That's not technically a problem with the plan but yeah.

If the most affordable plan was more than 8.13 percent than your income, you don't get fined

The big problem with this exemption actually mattering is when the most affordable plan is below that threshold but still functionally worthless to you and putting you at a point where you're below quality of living thresholds.

Like if you've got 5% of your income as breathing room every month because you're basically living paycheck to paycheck, which is a reality for many low income people, you get screwed over hard.

I can't really speak for the exact reasons why, but as someone who has lived having a parent who has been low income all my life, I know my mom's quality of care is the lowest it's ever been, and it costs me and her combined the most it ever has.

Medicaid and Medicare don't really seem to be as good as they used to be for the poorest people-- what proportion of that is a direct result of the ACA or not I don't know but I'm just saying yeah I've lived through the progression of health care and it's at its lowest point currently-- give me back the health care programs we had in the 90s and the 00s over health care as health insurance (they are not the same thing!)

The ACA just hasn't really been good for poor people beyond statistics imo. There are some sob stories out there that are easier to market, but on the whole it's been a tremendous negative for pretty much every low income person I know. And while I'm not particularly low income myself anymore I do know my fair share cause that's what I grew up with.

Somebody you hit shouldn't be screwed just because you don't have insurance

IMO auto insurance should all be insuring yourself, and fully optional, and if you don't want to be screwed by getting hit by someone else you should insure yourself. With the exception of people with accidents they caused on their record, dwi on their record, etc etc. Maybe force people with less than X years of driving experience on record to get it too. Basically if you're a risk, you should be forced to get liability, but otherwise you should be able to just not get anything.

Also keep in mind a lot of accidents are avoidable by either party, even if you're not technically at fault-- my grandpa used to always say "in a car accident it's always the other guy" and it's kinda true in a lot of ways.

In my experience you get "a connection error has occurred" if you play for more than a few hours on an emulator (think I tried it on Memu and Nox) and you have to do rather annoying steps with the file explorer and redownloads to fix it. And it'll happen pretty regularly, so the game isn't really playable on emulators.

Maybe different emulators are more forgiving though. This has happened to both me and HGR, though, so it's not necessarily a fluke.

On the plus side because it doesn't happen immediately it is in fact good for rerolling!

Not necessarily. It's difficult to measure the exact impact of people being gouged by having to pay insurance they can't afford-- not easily placed into cute factoids to make people outraged, but I wouldn't be surprised if the negative effects on those people outweigh the positive effects on those 13 million people.

This isn't even necessarily limited to healthy people either-- keep in mind that with the bare minimum health insurance many poor people are going to need to take because it's all they can afford even with the so called affordable care, your coverage is basically worthless because the deductible is high enough that you're only being protected from disasters, basically. So you're basically paying for "health care" that can't really improve your quality of living since you can't afford to actually use your health insurance. Like yeah, if you have an emergency you're better off, but you're also more prone to emergencies because you're sacrificing things like proper food, heating, etc because you need to budget for health insurance.

It's worth noting that people that truly cant afford it don't get penalized for not having insurance. I don't know what the limit is but if you don't make a certain amount you don't incur the tax penalty

This limit is undertuned btw. I know plenty of people who realistically can't afford it, but are still above the limit.

It's a good idea but yeah in practice it doesn't work

To Lopen, this is a hell of a lot more than I thought we would accomplish to the point where I dont mind it wasnt Leon anymore. Hopefully we can get together on another project next year.

I don't think I really did all that much. Despite him being the guy I pushed for initially moreso than you I'm a pretty bad ally for these things all things told. Don't like to bother with trading till they REALLY hit a wall, and am pretty inconsistent with making rounds early (RIP Mephilia :( ). That being said I can't be upset with 3rd place and I will admit that actually caving with trades probably pushed him a few spots up so that's nice. Sadly I think this is probably his peak, but 3rd place is a better peak than most characters can get so I'm relatively happy with it-- and at least the two in the finals are actual good characters.

But maybe we can prove the theory of my lack of contributions wrong and get Leon in next time !!

I would like to sub 30, but I value playing this game my way over efficiently-- I mean I have a bit of flexibility. I use Tyro in the Crystal Tower floors, but there are certain characters I don't want to be staples of my team. Frankly Gordon, who I'm using as my buffer right now, is very borderline in this regard and Sazh would be an excellent improvement over him.

I also think Sazh has a skillset that seems completely competent at dropping buffs, looking at what he can do. I'm thinking if I can't get Ramza stuff and I don't want to use Tyro or Onion Knight he's probably the best option in the game.

Need to refresh on those anniversary banners though
