I just took my mom's older cat to the vet because it was overactive, ate a ton but puked a lot ( A lot of furballs...she is a long haired cat), but still very thin. She had to have thyroid surgery and has now calmed down, able to keep things down, not over grooming and gaining weight. --- |

Cabins are usually out in the middle of nowhere, are run down and not any place to keep something valuable. I agree we need to address the gun and idiot problem here in the US. Too many kids and nuts with guns but I am not sure of how we do it. This problem has only really came about in the last 30 or 40 years. Before then, I am speaking of just the knowledge of my area which is largely rural, most people had guns. People hunted, kids hunted. Hell, boys drove to school with guns in their pickup truck gun rack in the back window. ( When was the last time you saw a truck with a window gun rack?). Yes, the guns getting into the hands of people who want to use them to injure or kill others is a problem that needs an answer but what the Hell has happened to society within this time span? |

A naturally intelligent, self-motivated youth will yield far greater results in less time than an average student. However, if somebody doesn't have those capabilities, they're going to end up worse. Most of the religious homeschooled kids I knew were not really isolated from others. They had a homeschooled network that met for field trips and various reasons and also church and community things. The problem of socialization comes from that being just about their only network and they keep away from the larger part of society. |

| myghostisdead 01/29/18 6:52:35 PM #25 | I had students that were homeschooled because of illness. These cases lasted for anywhere from a semester to a few years. I've had students whose parents would get mad and pull them out to enroll in another district or homeschool. They usually didn't do a very good job at homeschooling. If the parents took it seriously then the kids did very well. My last couple of years teaching I had identical twin boys to show that had been homeschooled until the parents decided they needed to go to a public school at the 7th grade onward. They were a little odd but incredibly sweet, smart and well behaved. They were well beyond the average 7th grade student as far as knowledge. One teacher told me "Enjoy them now because these other kids will wear off on them." I had to quit teaching due to my daughter's illness but I hope they are doing well. We do have a lot of religious groups that homeschool. |
