TopicIs Pokemon TCG (Gameboy) an open world game?
Philip027
08/26/23 1:40:38 AM
#17
No. You move from location to location from a world map screen instead of it being transitionless (this is the reason why Pokemon Legends Arceus wasn't quite open world either despite appearing/coming very close to it, and why Scarlet/Violet is)

You have freedom (mostly) in what order you tackle the clubs in, but that by itself doesn't make the game open world, it just makes it nonlinear. Another example of this sort of nonlinearity would be the Mega Man games (which also aren't open world, at least the classic ones aren't; I have no idea about more modern entries in that series)

Yes, I enjoyed it. Was my introduction to the series.

I tried playing 3/NV afterward (basically the same game, clearly running on the same engine at least) but they felt so slow and clunky in comparison, and weapon degradation systems in general can bite me.

these are extremely solvable problems.

That we choose not to solve them because society collectively puts more weight on arbitrary units of wealth than on the wellbeing of the populace doesn't mean we've overpopulated. It means the systems we currently use are not efficient and support the wrong goals (at least, from a perspective of "most common good". They're extremely good at making numbers of no real significance go up)

Like...there's a lot of things we -could- do to meaningfully increase quality of life for wide swathes of the populace. We don't do them because it doesn't make money, or because it would make a select set of industries make -less- money.

The reasoning doesn't matter much if the end result is the same.

Gen 4 characters aren't even necessarily the same characters. The male PCs might look similar, but the female PC in Crystal is explicitly different from the one in HGSS (and imo, had a cooler design...)

So, based on the fact the problem does exist in the first place, what conclusion can you then draw about whether or not the people with homes care about the plights of the homeless? Clearly, your reasons provided aren't enough to actually fix the problem; they're not making people care enough.

On another matter, how many of the people with homes who are bothered/impacted by homeless people do you think just wish the homeless people would go away, rather than actually help them in any sort of capacity?

Usually main, but if there was a second set of paired games within the same gen, I would usually play the alternate for the second set.

For instance, I played Ruby and Leaf Green (although to be fair, my decision on that one was swayed on the basis that Green was a "new" version for the English players)
also Diamond and Soul Silver
also Sun and Ultra Moon

You get the idea

TL:DR, there's not a scarcity of resources, just a scarcity of goodwill.

Does the reason really matter if those 600k homeless people have basically no power to change it regardless?

As a result many people, if not the majority, live in a world of artificially induced scarcity, and allow it because it's too inconvenient to fix it.

Please, by all means, tell us what those homeless people should do to fix said scarcity.

I wouldn't even call it bad writing.

Sarcastically referring to someone as "Einstein" when they do something stupid is so commonplace it likely wasn't even on the radar that "hey, this takes place in a fantasy world with talking animals in some other solar system/galaxy" would be an issue

And yes, the 3DS remake changes the line to "genius"

Yeah, lines like that (the old one) are great imo. The new one loses character.

Sometimes fourth wall breaks are a good thing.

Never had an issue using this controller. It only looks like you'd need three/mutant hands to use it at first, but the majority of games primarily used either the pad or the stick, so you simply gripped either the left or the center with your left hand depending on which.

Nor did I ever encounter drift with it. DualShock 4s and Joycons on the other hand...
