One I remember is Dead or Alive 2 for the Dreamcast. I knew nothing about the game, I think it was just being hyped up at the time and I decided to buy it because I wanted more games for my Dreamcast. Ended up loving its fighting system and played against a couple friends often. I think I mained either Kasumi or Ayane for a while but I tried out and enjoyed all of the characters.

I impulse bought a PSP just for 3rd Birthday.

I love that game

Last one was a regret, Dead Island 2. I'm not sure of I even beat it. I played a few online sessions and it screwed up my entire progression line.

Skies of Arcadia Legends was an impulse buy and one of the best games I've ever played

What's funny is I feel like the standard answer of this would be entirely backwards.

Guardian Heroes for Saturn. It was on sale because Best Buy was getting rid of all their Saturn stuff. I knew it was going to be the last Saturn game I was ever going to get and I expected it to suck, but it actually turned out to be the best game I ever played for Saturn.

Impulse bought FF6 and loved it.

Dynasty Warriors 2: Loved
Spartan: Total Warrior: Loved
Viking: Battle of Asgard: Loved
Two Worlds 2: Loved
Quest 64: Big ass dislike. Shit was trash

Dragon Quest 8. Simply got it for the FF12 demo disc. Ended up liking DQ8 more than FF12 and it got me to play the rest of the DQ series. Been in love with the franchise ever since.

Not a game but a system. I wanted a Sega Saturn because I had a Genesis but decided on a Playstation at the store because of a few games that looked cool. Guess its not really my purchase but I sure would have regretted getting a Saturn.

Impulse bought Golden Sun. Loved it. Bought the sequel pretty much immediately afterward

Also impulse bought Riviera The Promised Land. Also loved it.

Impulse bought Anthem. Well I think everyone knows the answer to that regretful purchase

Buying Pokemon Black 2 in 2022. I don't regret it.

Recently, Baldurs Gate 3 was something I didnt know I would love.

I was in an Ames store as a kid w/ my mom. She said she'd get me a video game, and I really wanted Wild 9. They had it in a bin w/ other PS1 games w/ a B1, G1 sale.
So of course I scoured the bin for the 2nd game to get. Hadn't heard of any of them, wasn't sure what to get, but a game w/ a weird name and even stranger cover art, Suikoden, grabbed my attention. At the time, I was mostly into platformers and Zelda and had barely played any RPGs (now my favorite genre).
So, on impulse, I got it w/ Wild 9.
Obviously played Wild 9 first and it was ok, but... eh. Guess I was growing out of platformer games.
Gave Suikoden a try, and...my god... I couldn't stop playing it, I instantly fell in love. Ended up getting the 2nd game and later when they released the entire series, and funded the Eiyuden Chronicle kickstarter. It is my favorite series of all time, and I only discovered it by pure dumb luck.

To keep my post from being too long... similar story w/ Baten Kaitos. I was in a Hollywood Video and told the sales guy I liked RPGs. He very passionately expressed how great BK was, and despite my reservations about it being a card-based game, he sold me on it, and....yeah, it was also really great.

Mary skelter trilogy was my best purchase the series is sooo good.. the lite porn minigame made me avoid it for a bit thinking it was a trashy fan service game like moero chronicle but it's so much better than that

Dusk was an impulse buy. No regrets.

Too many impulse buys. Off top of my head Twin snakes, Rogue squadron 3, snack world (anybody want a copy of snack world? please?), animal crossing, Metroid dread. I was surprised how good the Sly collection felt to play on PS3, fun writing too.

When I was 13 years old, I spent $49.99 in 1989 money to get... Friday the 13th for the NES.

That's $124.00 in 2023 US Dollars.

When Megaman Battle Network came out I really didnt care at all or knew it existed until I saw it. My mom offered to buy me any game for the GBA at the time at the store. I didnt see anything interesting so I grabbed that on a whim. I was hooked on the series from there on.

Disco Elysium. Hated the first 2-3 hours but when it got going oh man I got hooked.

Seems overall most people had good impulse buys, but I'll add in a regretted purchase.

I'm not sure if this counts as an impulse buy since I did play a demo of it, but I bought Threads of Fate (PlayStation) when it came out and although I did play through both scenarios, I didn't like the game. Thought it was boring overall.

One of the greatest impulse purchases I ever made was back in 1991 when I went to Toys R Us to by "Bart vs The Space Mutants" for the NES and it was sold out so I bought GI Joe instead.

GI Joe slowly grew to become quite possibly my favorite NES game of all time.

Deadly Premonition - I ended up really enjoying it.

iirc, I bought it the first week it came out.

I also impulse bought a 360 so I could play Witcher 2 (which I also enjoyed), which allowed me to play Deadly Premonition.

Disgaea D2 was an impulse buy that introduced me to my favorite franchise.

The day after Christmas when I got my Playstation, I went to Walmart to get another game. I had a choice between Beast Wars and SotN. Beast Wars had literally just gone on sale, and there were no reviews of it at the time. It would end up being one of the worst games I ever owned; SotN would later be one of my favorite games ever.

I also got a Wii U on impulse later on, but I don't regret getting one because there was no better way of telling how much something sucked. But I also impulse bought a Switch later on, and that reinvigorated my love of gaming.

No Man's Sky. Deeply discounted ( ~ 40%) after all the controversy.

Haven't played it in a while but I got years of gaming out of that game.

Impulse bought Crosscode for switch during the pandemic shutdown. Became one of my favorite games.

FF12 when it came out. The fact that the guy I bought it off, who was a huge FF fan, was reselling it a week after he got it, should've tipped me off that it was a bad idea.

I impulse bought an SNES mini and it remains boxed since I like Sega games better.

I bought Saints Row 2 out of a $10 bargain bin at Wal Mart. At the time I was disappointed with GTA 4 and vaguely remembered hearing that SR was a GTA clone. It ended up being one of my favorite games of that gen. I can count on one hand the number of times I've impulse-bought a game like that in my life, and I can count on one finger the number of times it's paid off that well.

I bought Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus on a whim.

As I was playing, I questioned to myself, "Why did I buy a pervy game?".

After listening to the OST and understanding the silliness of the game, I came to enjoy it.

I even cosplayed as Senran Kagura characters in Elden Ring.

Why did I buy Rimworld all DLC?

The Resident Evil 4 remake was total dog shit. Dunno where these reviews putting it on par with the original came from, but I got fleeced.

Got Stardew Valley completely blind on an XBL sale for like 3 bucks or something years ago. Never heard of it before, seen anything on it, nothing.

Easily one of my favorite games of all time.

ffxi. good and bad impulse purchase. it's a goat tier experience but i basically lost 3 years of my life to something i subbed to because i was bored and had nothing to play.

On several different occasions I made blind video game purchases for my birthday. At one point or another over the years I ended up buying Oni, Stretch Panic, and Morrowind based on nothing but the box and those games ended up turning out amazing.

Vampire Survivors was an impulse buy after seeing a YouTube video about it, and it was awesome. Most fun I've had with a game in years, at least until Baldur's Gate 3.

I'll tell you why so many people like it. Because it's good.

When a game truly is dogshit (aka Cyberpunk at launch) people will collectively agree that it's bad.

The difference here is that nobody cares about a rando named Jerry HellYeah and they have to try to stand out somehow to get five seconds of fame. Lol.

I bought Go! Go! Beckham! Adventure On Soccer Island! for the GBA on impulse purely because I thought that the notion of a David Beckham platform game was so insane and hilarious that it was worth buying just to laugh my way through it.

To my surprise, it's was actually one of the most accomplished and enjoyable platformers on the system outside of Ninty"s first party efforts.

I impulse bought a ps5 for FF16 and I wasnt even expecting to like it much, and now its my goty

Impulse bought Sonic Mania and figured itd teach me what people liked about 2d sonic. Reeeeally wish the eshop offered refunds

On the positive side, impulse bought Tales of the Abyss 3D once and fell completely head over heels for it

One of the WWE2k games. Can't remember which one but I used to love Day of Reckoning and watching WWE but the game I bought on PS4 was just janky garbage. Felt unplayable and I didn't care about most of newer wrestlers.
