"Couldn't be bothered"

Ah yes, let me just get a diving cert, boating cert, several thousands of dollars of gear and go and look for something in an environment even experienced divers can have issue with.

Nobody's saying it would be a simple matter, but if someone dies with something of yours in an area that is so unobtainable to you that you end up writing it off, what gives you the right to complain when someone else for whom it isn't as unobtainable goes and obtains it? You weren't going to have it regardless.

It has the same energy of someone complaining that nobody else should be allowed to date their ex.

I tried playing the demo for MH Rise and couldn't get through what I'm guessing was supposed to be the tutorial level. No clue what it was wanting me to do, but whatever I was doing wasn't working, and I was basically getting ragdolled/killed over and over until I timed out. Up until that point, I mainly remember just a lot of information / text box overload and way too many controls.

I didn't bother wishing the gameplay was simplified; I just gave up. I'm not even so sure that just an easier difficulty option would have really helped; don't think it would have necessarily fixed the things I was struggling with.

However, I know for a fact my spouse would be deeply uncomfortable with me going, and I don't want to go badly enough to go against their wishes.

I still wonder if there are people that perished in the ocean that they have possibly not found. A lot of people jumped into the ocean to escape the fires and on any other day it might have been fine, but the waters probably weren't particularly calm given the windy conditions that helped spread the fire to begin with.

I'm OK with remasters as long as they either actually do polish up the old work to a significant enough degree, and/or are sold at less than full price. Otherwise it just falls under lazy cash grab territory for me.

Metroid Prime is a recent example of one that does these criteria right.

There's honestly plenty of other things that qualify (taking out the Vs Seeker from FRLG and DPP is another contender for me), but this one I think is the most egregious for most players. It's really like we can't have anything nice, no matter how simple, for more than a single game or generation.

If your video game is so devoid of actual gameplay that you're gonna call it "piracy" when someone LPs it (when you wouldn't do that for any other kind of video game), maybe that's a sign what you're making shouldn't be, or be considered, a video game.

A "literal" human? What's that supposed to mean, in this context? The dog doesn't get to be "literal" too?

I'm guessing you're regarding a human life as inherently more valuable than another animal's life, and that's likewise very telling. I'm not even saying that nobody should have that opinion, but you definitely do not get to enforce it upon everyone else.

There's no "contradiction" to address, because as I said, the situations are not analogous. However much you may want to believe it so, my take on what I would save from the building does not have to correspond with my take on "socialized benefits" as you put it, and it most certainly doesn't fall in line with whatever you seem to think my take must be.

It's unfortunate for you that you can't seem to recognize the difference in situations, but much like with Rando Baby, I am similarly under no obligation to ELI5 it for you.

To those who would save the dog:

Would you make the same choice if you knew your actions were being witnessed?

If you had to account for them in a TV interview or an inquest (if your country has those)?

Would you be prepared to go through life as 'that person who let a kid die to save their dog'? (The alternative being 'the hero who saved a baby's life').

Let's assume there is no point in lying. There are multiple credible witnesses, unambiguous CCTV footage, whatever.

(Thou, of course, if you felt the need to lie, that would be highly indicative).

None of that changes my response.

Hell, I'd take it a step further and say I would save my personal effects before I would save some random baby. Again, the baby has no significance to me, and I have no obligation toward it.
