The Tiger defense picks off Lamar's Robert Coleman on the 3rd play from scrimmage to set up a 5-yard Jarquez Hunter rushing touchdown, 7-0 Auburn. The Cardinals respond immediately with an impressive 12-play, 80-yard drive, in which they converted two 3rd & 8s, and a 3rd & 6, 7-7. The two kickers trade field goals from just over 30 yards out, but Lamar's Chris Esqueda knocks through a 2nd kick to give the Cardinals their first lead - 13-10 at halftime.

Lamar quickly moves the ball on their first drive of the 2nd half, going 58 yards in 6 plays and finding the endzone to push their lead to 20-10. Former MSU Spartan Payton Thorne hits Jarquez Hunter for a 39-yard TD pass on Auburn's next possession to cut the lead back down to 3, and Robert Coleman is intercepted again to set up a short field for the Tigers - they take advantage with a 2-yard Brian Battie run to retake the lead. Coleman is intercepted a 3rd time early in the 4th quarter, leading to an Auburn field goal, 27-20. The Cardinals only manage to get into Auburn territory one more time, but they do make it all the way to the 7-yard line. After an incomplete pass from Coleman on 3rd & 1, Lamar opts to.......take the 3 points. They actually got the ball back 2 more times but couldn't do anything with it, Tigers survive.
