The Pacific Coast Region

9) Washington vs 120) Bowling Green
73) Montana State vs 201) Bryant
41) BYU vs 88) San Diego State
24) UCLA vs 152) New Mexico

Boy UCLA has fallen off since this started

---

9) Washington 38, 120) Bowling Green 13
Washington - 14 | 0 | 10 | 14
Bowling Green - 0 | 6 | 0 | 7

Michael Penix Jr (UW) - 22/34 passing, 453 yards, 5 TDs
Rom Odunze (UW) - 7 catches, 155 yards, 4 TDs
Odieu Hilaire (BGSU) - 5 catches, 121 yards, 1 TD

Well the Husky offense took a quarter off, but the game was never really in doubt. Not surprisingly, Penix accounted for all of Washington's touchdowns, but Odunze's numbers raise an eyebrow - I believe we again have a new single-game high, this time for receiving touchdowns. IRL he hasn't caught more than 2 touchdown passes in a game in his career.

Fun fact: Michigan beat Bowling Green by the same margin, but each team had one less touchdown.

73) Montana State 24, 201) Bryant 10
Montana State - 7 | 7 | 7 | 3
Bryant - 0 | 3 | 0 | 7

Montana State controlled the pace of play (64 plays on offense vs 51) and really kept the tempo down, pretty much putting the game away after their 2nd touchdown. The Bobcats are currently the highest-ranked FCS team in Sagarin without 'Dakota' in their name.

41) BYU 24, 88) San Diego State 13
BYU - 7 | 3 | 7 | 7
SDSU - 7 | 0 | 3 | 3

Kedon Slovis (BYU) - 16/30, 209 yards, 3 TDs

I think this was a Mountain West match-up like..............10 years ago

Much like the previous game, not a lot of combined offense, so once BYU took the lead in the 2nd quarter, they weren't going to give it up. Unlike the last game, though, SDSU had a much bigger time of possession as the losing team. Slovis completed passes to 10 different BYU receivers.

24) UCLA 59, 152) New Mexico 31
UCLA - 3 | 14 | 14 | 28
New Mexico - 14 | 3 | 14 | 0

Ethan Garbers (UCLA) - 23/33 passing, 399 yards, 4 TDs; 2 carries, 6 yards, 1 TD
Carson Steele (UCLA) - 14 carries, 75 yards, 1 TD; 2 catches, 1 yard, 1 TD (lol)

Holy 4th quarter, Batman. UCLA finished the game with 4 straight touchdown drives; New Mexico punted 3 times and threw a pick. Decent job by the Lobos to hang in and have the lead most of the first 45 minutes though.

90 points is the highest combined single-game total so far. I suspect we'll crack 100 eventually.

The Longhorn Region

8) Texas vs 136) New Hampshire
72) South Alabama vs 200) Cornell
40) Maryland vs 89) Utah State
25) UCF vs 153) Tennessee-Martin

---

8) Texas 37, 136 New Hampshire 0
Texas - 10 | 10 | 7 | 10
New Hampshire - 0 | 0 | 0 | 0

Texas has outscored their first 2 opponents 63-6. The New Hampshire offense crossed midfield once, by a yard, then punted the next play.

72) South Alabama vs 200) Cornell

The Jaguars jumped out to a 17-0 first quarter lead, scoring on their first 3 possessions. Big Red kicker Jackson Kennedy knocks through 2 second quarter field goals, and South Alabama's Diego Guajardo makes his 2nd of the game to make it 20-6 South Alabama at halftime. Cornell has pretty much a perfect start to the 2nd half, scoring touchdowns their first 2 drives to tie the game at 20. South Alabama's Carter Bradley is then picked off on their next possession, but Kennedy misses a 42-yarder and the game remains tied. Kennedy gets another crack on Cornell's next possession, and this time knocks through a 40-yarder, giving the Big Red their first lead of the game, early in the 4th quarter. The Jaguars move the ball into Cornell territory before stalling, but the ensuing punt pins Cornell at their own 5 yard line. The Big Red go 3 & out, giving South Alabama excellent field position, and they cash in on the 2nd play of the drive, on a 38-yard pass from Bradley to Caullin Lacy. Jaguars have retaken the lead, 27-23. Another Cornell 3 & out gives South Alabama the ball around midfield, and they again find the endzone, 6 plays later, to ice the game.

72) South Alabama 34, 200) Cornell 23
South Alabama - 17 | 3 | 0 | 14
Cornell - 0 | 6 | 14 | 3

Caullin Lacy (USA) - 6 catches, 148 yards, 2 TDs
Jameson Wang (Corn) - 25/35 passing, 332 yards, 2 TDs; 12 carries for 18 yards

Nice effort by Cornell in the middle 2 quarters to give South Alabama a scare, but the Jaguars started and finished too strong.

89) Utah State 52, 40) Maryland 24
Utah State - 21 | 7 | 17 | 7
Maryland - 0 | 10 | 7 | 7

Davon Booth (USU) - 16 carries, 131 yards, 4 TDs
Jalen Royals (USU) - 11 catches, 234 yards, 1 TD
Taulia Tagovailoa (MD) - 23/34 passing, 384 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT
Kaden Prather (MD) - 6 catches, 140 yards, 2 TDs

let-down game after giving Michigan all they could handle, I guess. This was over within minutes after kicking off. Pretty sure Booth had the most rushing touchdowns in one game so far, or at least tied the high. Royals had probably a top 5 single-game receiving yard total. Maryland really struggled running the ball, barely averaging over 3 yards a carry.

25) UCF vs 153) Tennessee-Martin

The game opens with 3 straight punts, then UT-Martin throws a very ill-timed interception inside their own 5 yard line, setting up an easy touchdown for the Knights two plays later. A 2nd Kinkead Dent interception sets up a 49-yard Colton Boomer field goal, and John Rhy Plumlee, back from injury, throws a 33-yard touchdown pass to Javon Baker to give UCF a 17-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter belonged to the SKYHAWKS, who outscored UCF 10-0, and entered the locker room down only a touchdown.

Gus Malzahn was not too pleased with how his team finished the 1st half, but he must've given a pretty inspiring halftime speech because UCF came out and scored touchdowns on their first two possessions of the 2nd half, 31-10 Knights after 3. The Skyhawks refuse to quit, scoring two straight touchdowns of their own to once again cut the lead to 7, but UCF puts together a back-breaking 11-play, 80-yard touchdown drive to finally put UT-Martin away. Boomer booms one more 47-yard field goal for good measure.

25) UCF 41, 153) Tennessee-Martin 24
UCF - 17 | 0 | 14 | 10
UT-Martin - 0 | 10 | 0 | 14

John Rhys Plumlee (UCF) - 16/26 passing, 213 yards, 3 TDs; 4 carries, 15 yards
RJ Harvey (UCF) - 19 carries, 116 yards, 1 TD; 1 catch for 36 yards
Sam Franklin (UTM) - 27 carries, 247 yards, 2 TDs

Too bad for UT-Martin that Franklin couldn't get any help from his team's passing game (76 yards, 3.5 yards/attempt). That might be the highest yard total by a running back on a losing team, or at least top 5. Plumlee coming back might have made the difference for UCF.

Kinda the ACC Region

16) Clemson vs 113) Old Dominion
49) Kansas vs 177) Mercer
48) Mississippi State vs 81) Boston College
17) Florida State vs 112) Colorado State

---

16) Clemson 38, 113) Old Dominion 7
Clemson - 14 | 3 | 7 | 14
Old Dominion - 0 | 7 | 0 | 0

Cade Klubnik (Clem) - 30/40 passing, 340 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT; 1 rushing TD
Phil Mafah (Clem) - 17 carries for 142 yards, 1 TD

This would have been Klubnik's highest pass yard total of the season

49) Kansas vs 177) Mercer

The Jayhawks score a TD on the first play of the 2nd quarter, after a slow start from both offenses, then Mercer finally answers with a TD of their own right before halftime, 7-7. They have a chance to take the lead early in the 3rd quarter, but Reice Griffith hooks a 39-yard field goal wide. The Kansas offense is struggling even harder, however, and after punting from their own endzone, the Bears are able to find the endzone again on a short field, going 35 yards in 7 plays, 14-7. Another 3-and-out by Kansas to start the 4th quarter leads to a made FG by Griffith from 36 yards out, 17-7. The Jayhawks cut the lead to 3 on a 15-play, 80-yard drive, but they eat up a lot of clock in the process. The Mercer offense is able to maintain possession for 10 plays on their final drive, and although Griffith missed another field goal, there was so little time left that it didn't really matter. Jason Bean's desperation heave for Kansas as time expires comes up well short.

177) Mercer 17, 49) Kansas 14
Mercer - 0 | 7 | 7 | 3
Kansas - 0 | 7 | 0 | 7

Ty James (Mer) - 8 catches, 140 yards, 1 TD

Mercer is unstoppable! Bean had a rough outing - did throw a touchdown pass, but went only 11/24.

48) Mississippi State vs 81) Boston College

BC reaches the endzone on the game's first drive, on a 17-yard pass from Thomas Castellanos to Dino Tomlin, but Mississippi State racks up 17 straight points before the 1st quarter ends. The teams trade field foals in the 2nd quarter. 20-10 Miss State at halftime. The Bulldogs push the lead to 17 briefly, but the Eagles fight all the way back to tie the score at 34 in the 4th, taking us to the first overtime of the 2nd round. BC starts with the ball - they're unable to pick up a first down, but Liam Connor knocks through a 34-yard field goal to make it 37-34 BC. A touchdown would walk it off for Miss State.....but they're also unable to pick up a first down, and in fact go backwards 3 yards, forcing Kyle Ferrie to attempt a 45-yarder to tie, which is.........

81) Boston College 37, 48) Mississippi State 34 (OT)
Boston College - 7 | 3 | 10 | 14 || 3
Mississippi State - 17 | 3 | 7 | 7 || 0

Thomas Castellanos (BC) - 19/31 passing, 277 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT; 37 carries, 122 yards
Dino Tomlin (BC) - 6 catches, 114 yards, 2 TDs
Liam Connor (BC) - 3/3 FGs (46, 48, 34)

NO GOOD

Wow heck of a job by BC to stay in at and have all 3 phases of the game peak at the right time. I wonder what the record is for most carries by a QB in a single game, 37 is pretty insane. ACC still rollin'.

SECOND ROUND finally

Georgia's Region

1) Georgia vs 128) Buffalo
64) Wake Forest vs 65) North Dakota State
33) Washington State vs 161) Illinois State
32) Syracuse vs 160) Robert Morris

1) Georgia 52, 128) Buffalo 0
Georgia - 7 | 14 | 21 | 10
Buffalo - 0 | 0 | 0 | 0

Carson Beck (UGA) - 26/37 passing, 369 yards, 5 TDs
Daijun Edwards (UGA) - 19 carries, 122 yards, 1 TD; 1 catch, 16 yards, 1 TD

Well Georgia really took advantage of that nearly-2 month break. Buffalo was held to 154 total yards. They didn't run a single offensive play in Georgia territory - they made it to the 50 once. At one point they somehow managed to have a 13-play possession entirely within their half of the field. Brock Bowers played, but somehow only got 2 carries for a yard a piece, and no receptions, even though Carson Beck completed passes to 10 different players; 5 different players for touchdowns.

65) North Dakota State 45, 64) Wake Forest 16
NDSU - 7 | 10 | 14 | 14
Wake - 0 | 3 | 3 | 10

TaMerik Williams (NDSU) - 12 carries, 84 yards, 3 TDs
Cam Miller (NDSU) - 12 carries, 73, 2 TDs

Welllll the ACC quickly got nerfed (although Wake Forest is currently dead last in the conference). The Bison with as powerful & balanced a running back tandem as Michigan.

161) Illinois State 27, 33) Washington State 14
Illinois State - 3 | 10 | 14 | 0
Washington State - 7 | 0 | 0 | 7

The FCS dominance continues - and specifically, the Missouri Valley dominance. Washington State is also bottom of the Pac-12.

32) Syracuse 27, 160) Robert Morris 14
Syracuse - 7 | 7 | 10 | 3
Robert Morris - 0 | 0 | 14 | 0

ACC back on track. Robert Morris gave the Orange a slight scare late in the 3rd, cutting the lead to 3, before Cuse immediately answered with another touchdown. Just learned that former Michigan back-up QB Dan Villari transferred to Syracuse and converted to tight end - he had one carry and one catch :)

Pretty hardcore fan of the Myst series (at least the first 3 games) which I think would fall in the 'hard' category. The Witness seems.......maybe a bit similar, but I'm not sure how the difficulty stacks up. Riven to me is the most difficult puzzle game I've beaten, and Myst isn't far behind. Exile is the easiest of the 3 but still has some frustrating spots.

It also really disrespects MAC teams.

I figured I'd come back and root for some non-Miami MAC team, but who is left? Northern Illinois? Toledo?
All MAC teams have played their first round match - they are 5-7

Remaining teams:
Buffalo
Bowling Green
Toledo
Western Michigan
Ball State

I will do a stat breakdown once the first round is done with all the conference records

118) Northern Iowa 31, 139) Sam Houston State 7
Northern Iowa - 7 | 14 | 7 | 3
Sam Houston State - 7 | 0 | 0 | 0

Theo Day (UNI) - 21/30 passing, 288 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT
Sam Schnee (UNI) - 9 catches, 131 yards, 1 TD

Sam Houston could get absolutely nothing going on the ground - 20 carries for 46 yards. The Bearcats couldn't even break their winless streak in a fictional sim :(

75) Northwestern 33, 182) Gardner-Webb 3
Northwestern - 10 | 3 | 3 | 17
Gardner-Webb - 0 | 3 | 0 | 0

Brendan Sullivan (NU) - 25/35 passing, 284 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT
Bryce Kirtz (NU) - 5 catches, 89 yards, 2 TDs
Jack Olsen (NU) - 4/4 FGs (44, 50, 48, and 43 yards)

Heck of a kicking day for Olsen, and for the Wildcats in general - they poured it on at the end, but still pretty good considering how some of the FBS v FCS matches have gone. Also, forgot AJ Henning transferred there from Michigan, he made some big plays for us, including the opening touchdown vs Ohio State in 2021 I believe.

203) Murray State 27, 54) Illinois 17
Murray State - 10 | 17 | 0 | 0
Illinois - 0 | 0 | 0 | 17

Welp, no in-state Big Ten match-up, then. Illinois didn't realize they were playing a football game until the 4th quarter, and it was a little late at that point. Murray State would almost certainly lose this game irl, but the Illini were also like 20-30 spots too high.

86) Georgia Tech 23, 171) Albany 7
Georgia Tech - 10 | 10 | 0 | 3
Albany - 0 | 0 | 7 | 0

Haynes King (GT) - 17 carries, 144 yards, 1 TD

The 'Jackets keep things rolling-ish, after their irl upsets over Miami and UNC

43) Iowa State 23, 214) Northern Colorado 0
Iowa State - 3 | 7 | 6 | 7
Northern Colorado - 0 | 0 | 0 | 0

Northern Colorado is 0-8 irl right now soooooo yep. They were held to 144 total yards on offense.

150) Delaware 42, 107) Weber State 3
Delaware - 14 | 0 | 14 | 14
Weber State - 0 | 0 | 0 | 3

Ryan O'Connor (Del) - 19/24 passing, 283 yards, 5 TDs, 1 INT
Marcus Yarns (Del) - 17 carries, 179 yards, 1 TD; 3 catches, 51 yards
Jourdan Townsend (Del) - 5 catches, 123 yards, 3 TDs

This is actually correct - Delaware is 7-1 and leading the CAA, their only loss coming vs Penn State, while Weber State is 3-5, 2nd-to-last in the Big Sky. The Blue Hens are now 30 spots ahead of Weber in the Sagarin ratings, which is what I used for seeding (in mid-September).

22) TCU vs 235) South Carolina State

SC State jumps out to a 14-0 first quarter lead, on an 11-yard pass from Cory Fields to Nigel Johnson, then a 66-yard run by Jawarn Howell. The teams trade field goals to start the 2nd quarter, then TCU finds the endzone on a 19-yard pass from Chandler Morris to Jared Wiley, 17-10 SC State at halftime.

The Horned Frogs tie it up immediately to start the 2nd half, with Emani Bailey finding the endzone on a 6-yard run. They then take the lead on their next possession, on another Bailey touchdown, this time catching a 1-yard pass by Morris, 24-17 TCU. The Bulldogs cut it to 4 on a 45-yard field goal by TEAM (kinda unfair if the whole team can kick it collectively), but Chandler Morris answers with a deep ball to John Paul Richardson for the game-sealing TD.

22) TCU 31, 235) South Carolina State 20
TCU - 0 | 10 | 14 | 7
SC State - 14 | 3 | 0 | 3

Chandler Morris (TCU) - 30/40 passing, 427 yards, 3 TDs
Jawarn Howell (SCSU) - 15 carries, 132 yards, 1 TD

That was nice of TCU to spot SC State one quarter of football

---

and we are DONE with the First Round!!!

Only took a month and a half :) Like most 'projects' I do on here......taking way longer than I imagined, but, we've simmed over half the total games now. Next post will have stat breakdowns of the first round.

LAST REGION then we're done with the 1st round

The Irish Catholic Region

11) Notre Dame vs 246) Butler
118) Northern Iowa vs 139) Sam Houston State
75) Northwestern vs 182) Gardner-Webb
54) Illinois vs 203) Murray State

86) Georgia Tech vs 171) Albany
43) Iowa State vs 214) Northern Colorado
107) Weber State vs 150) Delaware
22) TCU vs 235) South Carolina State

---

11) Notre Dame vs 246) Butler

We start off with a bitter northern Indiana rivalry. Notre Dame puts together a 13-play drive to open the game but it ends with only a field goal. After forcing Butler to punt and getting a decent return, the Irish mount a 10-play 60-yard touchdown drive, capped off by a 21-yard pass from Sam Hartman to Jayden Thomas, 10-0. Both teams are fighting to control time of possession, as Butler scores a field goal on a 13-play 62-yard drive. The Bulldog defense force a punt, and Butler ties it up with a big play from QB Bret Bushka, finding Joey Audia in the endzone on a 37-yard pass. Both teams ate up so much clock and moved so methodically that they got only 3 possessions each in the 1st half. 10-10.

The Irish are determined to wear down the Bulldog defense and hold onto the ball, taking it 80 yards in 12 plays to retake the lead on a 2-yard goalline push, 17-10. Butler is not only unfazed - they put together possibly the most patient, methodical, backbreaking drive I've seen in this sim so far: 18 plays, 80 yards, 5/5 on 3rd down conversions, ending with Bushka sneaking it in at the goalline. It is already the 4th quarter. Notre Dame has a 3rd & 1 at Butler's 17, but they refuse to trust God and throw the ball for an incompletion, then timidly settle for a Spencer Shrader field goal, 20-17. Bushka comes right back and again engineers a clutch drive for Butler, scrambling for a 35-yard TD to regain the lead for the Bulldogs. Notre Dame fails to get past midfield on their penultimate possession - when they finally get the ball back with just seconds left, they actually complete a hail mary pass, but only to the Butler 23-yard line, which is almost worse than it being incomplete.

246) Butler 27, 11) Notre Dame 23
Butler - 0 | 10 | 7 | 7
Notre Dame - 10 | 0 | 7 | 3

Bret Bushka (But) - 11/17 passing, 153 yards, 1 TD; 10 carries, 56 yards, 2 TDs

The Irish were punished by Catholic God for their lack of faith. One observer at Notre Dame Stadium reported he saw Touchdown Jesus actually put his arms down and facepalm as the clock hit zeroes.
