yup. when it comes things people need or are legally required to have (shelter, food, insurance, healthcare), corpos realized they can just skyrocket the prices and nothing will be done about it because people need or are legally required to have those things.

between the realtors trying to undercut these people who lost their homes by buying the land for cheap and shit like this, you'd think over 100 people dying would be a wake up call to the insanity that is capitalist real estate.

fuck no. it's one of my biggest blind spots. putting stuff together. unless theres a completely 1:1 video with the EXACT model and everything is perfectly aligned (which is almost never is because as things evolve, sometimes teeny tiny little parts change here and there but places don't swap out the instruction book)

ikea partners with this uber-for-ikea company where you can straight up pay someone to do it. absolute godsend for me.

i am just useless with stuff like that. the pictures suck, the labeling sucks, everything about my ability to interpret picture instructions suck.

The fuck you talking about? That shit was never amusing.
I always thought it was a little amusing, but I guess a better word is understandable.

Shiny new technology, internet, computer, etc.. for someone in their 50s-60s, it's understandable that it will take time to get used to that stuff. And that's assuming they want to get used to it at all. You can't exactly blame them for that when they're a few years away from retiring and don't want to change their ways because there was no need to. That's just their mentality. And pre-covid, it didn't matter. They could do everything just fine and the system would work.

Nowadays though there's no excuse. After three years of online-only courses, there's no excuse. Do your job or get out. Hence, it stopped being amusing.

the classic "old person bad with computer" trope was amusing for a long, long time.

covid basically made it not funny anymore.

it's absolutely maddening how people still cannot figure out the most basic shit.

even if you give them two "free" learning years from 2020-2022 (20+ years of computers and internet prior notwithstanding). two straight years doing stuff online with computers. you HAVE to know how to do basic things like unmute your mic, correct?

there's no excuse anymore. the internet isn't going anywhere. learn to adapt or find a different job.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

it's like, picture a drama like game of thrones where you have a few different key "parties," each having their stories told a few scenes at a time throughout an episode. e.g. starks, lannisters, and targaryens. you learn about the key people involved with each, their stories, and the intra-family dynamics. as those stories are told, they gradually intertwine with other families, directly or indirectly, leading to great television.

picture that, but with fight scenes that are fucking awesome hand-to-hand combat instead of basic sword/shields or gunfights where there are cuts every half second.

TopicIs YouTube a better entertainment platform than TV in 2023
TaylorHeinicke
08/28/23 3:00:27 PM
#11
depends on how you define TV

when i first read the topic title, i was picturing youtube TV vs. cable. in which case i was like, eh, it's probably better but i really don't know that much about youtube TV, but the bar for cable is so low that it HAS to be better, right?

then i thought it over a little more and was picturing youtube vs. cable. in which case, i was like, what kind of fucking question is that? absolutely youtube is better. anyone who's stayed in a hotel in the last several years should agree that cable is a complete and utter meme - shit programming, sped up programming to make room for more commercials, programming littered with ads, fucking LOUD commercials compared to the programming... it's unwatchable.

however, if you're talking youtube vs. TV, and "TV" INCLUDES streaming, then it's TV. depending on one's tastes, i could see picking youtube, but there is so much elite television out there that i have no idea how one could choose youtube for any reason other than the price tag.

what the fuck is this combination of topic title, headline, and actual content

topic title: "might interview putin." - yeah, he might and he might not. it's not a great title but it's pretty random

headline: "tucker wants to interview putin." -oh wow, that's pretty significant!! i wonder where tucker said this!

actual content: "editor in chief of russian state controlled television says tucker wants to interview putin" - "tucker has not commented on the matter." -bro what the actual fuck. some nimrod on russian state television says something and it's ballooned into "TUCKER WANTS TO INTERVIEW PUTIN"

this is not something that will ever change because too many people enjoy too many things. it will never end until regulation is put in place (a.k.a never, despite biden promising to end junk fees in his SotU address)
