You or your source didn't interpret the his message correctly. McHenry said he will resign if he is pressured to seize power without a vote, which some Republicans wanted to do in order to avoid having the Democrats bail them out of this mess. McHenry is willing to serve as full speaker pro tempore if there is a vote to expand his power.

Thanks for the clarification.

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves slammed Morgan Freeman after the actor met with his Democratic rival, Brandon Presley.

The 86-year-old actor was spotted with the governor hopeful and his wife, Katelyn Mabus, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, on October 21. Raised in the state, Morgan built a home on land previously owned by his grandparents near the town of Charleston.

Presley shared a photo of the meeting to X, formerly Twitter, on October 22, where it has received over 75,000 views so far. He captioned it: "Thank you, Morgan Freeman, for hosting Katelyn and I in Clarksdale yesterday afternoon!"

In response, Reeves took to social media to slam Freeman's support of Presley. On October 23, the Republican candidate shared a photo of a trailer emblazoned with a "Governor Tate Reeves" banner, along with the caption: "Some folks fight for endorsements from Hollywood liberals, I prefer endorsements from truck drivers."

The post has so far received 58,000 views, with some X users mocking Reeves for referring to Freeman as a "Hollywood liberal," considering he resides in Mississippi.

"Did you know that Morgan Freeman lives just outside of Clarksdale, #Mississippi?" asked Mathew Helman. "He is your constituent, Tate."

"Morgan Freeman is one of us, governor, or do u not know that," said Oldhippie.

"Pathetic. Attacking one of Mississippi's very own," agreed @crops2coal. "The state deserves so much better than you."

"Where are the truck drivers who endorse you Tate, all I see is an abandoned trailer?" asked Lynda Powell, while ErinK called the politician's post "petty."

User Ashley Pittman shared a Facebook post from Reeves in 2020, in which the governor praised the actor. "Wise words from one of Mississippi's greatsMorgan Freeman," Reeves wrote alongside a clip of the star advising his fellow Mississippians to follow COVID-19 safety precautions.

However, some users threw their support behind Reeves, with Will Baker writing: "My pawpaw was Peterbuilt Patriot. He's gone now, God rest his soul. But this means the world to me Tate. Thank you."

Presley posted to X to defend Morgan on October 24, writing: "Tate Reeves is so silly that he's attacking my endorsement from Morgan Freeman. I've got news for Tate, Morgan would beat him worse than I'm going to in this election, if he was running. Tate doesn't even know Morgan lives in Charleston, MS."

Reeves has been the governor of Mississippi since 2020, but his lead over Presley has been tenuous, despite Mississippi being a historically red state.
His management of the Mississippi welfare scandalin which government funds were misusedalong with his handling of a drinking water shortage in Jackson earlier this year have led to a dip in Reeves' popularity.

A recent poll by business intelligence firm Morning Consult found that Reeves has a 48 approval rating, making him the fifth most unpopular governor in the country.

The latest figures by polling analysis website FiveThirtyEight also suggest that the politician's lead over his rival is slipping, with Reeves only one point ahead of Presley as of October 20.

And it's this thinking that has caused several states to get viciously gerrymandered the way they are. Local races matter and the Dems continue to throw money at these state wide races like how they did with Texas that they lose, and then go on and wonder why they're losing state legislatures that get to draw the maps.

I agree with this. State legislatures and gerrymandering are important issues. But given the way the system is set up that's on the state (and state party) in question.

Those are state laws we're complaining about. Maybe a favorable governor like Presley getting elected in MS can help with that, we'll see. There's not much otherwise a national party can do about changing state laws and affecting local races in our current system.

If youve wondered why the Democratic Governors Association has pumped a historic amount of money into Brandon Presleys 2023 campaign, you might get your answer later today.

The Washington-based organization that works to get Democratic governors elected will publicly release a poll today that shows Republican incumbent Gov. Tate Reeves leading Presley by just one point, according to a memo shared with Mississippi Today.

The poll shows Reeves leading Presley 46% to 45%, with nearly 10% still undecided 15 days from the election. The poll also shows that among those undecided voters, 68% have an unfavorable opinion of Reeves, while just 2% view him favorably.

If accurate, the poll also shows both candidates well below the 50%-plus-one threshold needed to avoid a runoff. A third candidate, independent Gwendolyn Gray, dropped out of the race in early October and endorsed Presley, but her announced exit came too late to be removed from the ballot.

She could earn enough votes to keep Reeves or Presley from reaching 50%, which would push those two candidates to a Nov. 28 runoff election.

The Democratic Governors Association has pumped at least $3.75 million into Presleys campaign this year, which is an unprecedented Mississippi investment from a single group affiliated with the national Democratic Party.

That sum helped Presley out-raise Reeves over the past three months a feat that very few political observers expected.

To add some context to this years DGA investment, the same group gave Democratic nominee Jim Hood just $2.4 million in his race against Reeves four years ago. And this year in neighboring Louisiana, one of two other states with a 2023 governors election, the DGA invested about $300,000 total.

A word of warning about this poll and any others youll see between now and November: tis the season for skewed polling leaks. Given their investment in one candidate in the race, the uber-politically affiliated DGA could very well have reason to release numbers that dont tell a complete picture.

But heres what we do know: The poll was conducted by Public Policy Polling, a reputable North Carolina-based firm that has an A-minus rating from the industry standard FiveThirtyEight pollster rating service.

This pollster, according to the memo shared with Mississippi Today, surveyed 601 Mississippi voters via a mix of text message and phone calls from October 19-20, and the margin of error is 4%.

There are reasons to buy this latest polls numbers. This new poll, like others before it, shows Reeves underwater on favorability. Of the new polls total respondents, according to the memo, 51% have an unfavorable opinion of Reeves and just 33% view him favorably.

Presley, on the other hand, has a marginal favorable rating among all the polls respondents (36% favorable to 31% unfavorable), but the poll memo shows the

Democratic nominee still has a major name ID problem something that also mirrors other public polling released earlier this year. In all, 32% of the polls respondents are unsure of their opinion of Presley.

The poll that shows neither candidate particularly close to the 50% mark also tracks with buzz among Republican and Democratic politicos over the past week or two. Political operatives on both sides in Mississippi continue to openly speculate about the runoff possibility. And both campaigns, according to several sources, are said to be preparing for the possibility of a three-week November sprint to the runoff election.

Accurate or not, this new DGA poll will rattle the states political ground and attract even more national attention to the race. Just 15 days out, theres plenty of drama.

https://thehill.com/policy/technology/4270360-elon-musk-offers-1m-to-wikipedia-if-theyll-change-their-name/

Billionaire Elon Musk offered Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia, $1 billion under the condition that it changes its name to Dickipedia.

The owner of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, wrote his offer in a post on his site. He had previously posted a screenshot of a personal appeal from Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales stating that the website is not for sale.

I will give them a billion dollars if they change their name to Dickipedia, Musk wrote.

Please add that to the [cow and poop emojis] on my wiki page, he continued in another post. In the interests of accuracy.

When one user, journalist Ed Krassenstein, suggested the online encyclopedia take the deal, saying that it can can always change it back after you collect, Musk added a condition to his offer.

One year minimum. I mean, Im a not fool lol, he wrote.

Musk had made multiple posts earlier Sunday criticizing the Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit that hosts Wikipedia, for asking for money.
Have you ever wondered why the Wikimedia Foundation wants so much money? It certainly isnt needed to operate Wikipedia, he wrote on X. You can literally fit a copy of the entire text on your phone! So, whats the money for? Inquiring minds want to know

The apps Community Notes, which allows users to sign up to become contributors and create notes on posts for context, left an explanation under his post initially stating that Wikipedia handles over 25B page views per month and over 44M page edits a month, requiring substantial operating costs.

It also noted that the organization employs third-party financial auditors whose reports are made available to the public.

The note since updated and noted the organizations expenses, $146 million, and left a bullet list specifying where the money goes by percent.

Wales has been an outspoken critic of Musk. In May, Wales condemned Musks decision to censor critics ahead of the Turkish presidential election.

What Wikipedia did: we stood strong for our principles and fought to the Supreme Court of Turkey and won, Wales wrote in response to a post from Musk defending his decision. This is what it means to treat freedom of expression as a principle rather than a slogan.

Musk has come under withering criticism in some quarters for misinformation on X since he purchased the platform and instituted a number of changes.
