Ok, let's start over.

I ask the alien three questions:
There have been 999 people before me and you predicted all of their choices correctly?
The $1 million is already either in B or not and you have no ability to change that reality from this point in time onward?
Did anyone of those 999 people have $1 million dollars in B during their offer?

If it refuses to answer all 3 in the affirmative or is evasive about it, you got your answer:
There is never money in B and your choice is $1000 or bragging rights over an alien.

If it says yes confidently to all 3, then...it might still be lying, but that would be sufficient to get me to choose B only.

So, all that matters is the alien's "prediction"?

If he predicts you take both and you take B, you get nothing
If he predicts you take B and you do, you get $1M
If he predicts you take B and you take both, you get $1M + $1000

Logically there's no reason not to take A and B b/c he could've just put nothing in B and the whole "prediction" thing is bull shit, you don't know. It's not like if you take B only you get the million if it wasn't in there, you just look like a fool.
The only reason to take B only is reverse psychology, "it expects me to be rational and choose both, so I'll do the opposite!" But it could counter your counter, and so on...

Should just take the $1000 and move on. This isn't the Monty Hall problem where your choice (and changing it) actually has a mathematical difference in the probability. Your choice means nothing, the alien already decided what's in B before it even talked to you.

One choice you get nothing, win or lose. One choice, you get $1000, win or lose. The latter is objectively better and again the only reason not to choose it is attempting reverse-psychology on a supposedly omniscient being.

Once again, with emphasis.

Far more important than deterrence or rejuvenating criminals is the actual punishment part. Victims want the scum that terrorized them off the streets and to pay for their fucking crimes. People gave up seeking vengeance to have a more orderly society where a fair and impartial court punishes the wrong-doers instead. When that social contract is shit upon, a lot of stuff in society will inevitably break down.

I wonder if all these broken into rental cars in CA are driving a nationwide shortage? It wasn't like this even a year ago, at peak chip shortage era.

But the problem with that last sentence is, especially when speaking in legal terms, it's a fantasy. If you set up a law that will only allow you to execute people with 100% certainty of no innocents, the law you've set up is one effectively abolishing the death penalty.

You cannot allow the death penalty without allowing the risk of innocent victims. It is not possible. There will always be people looking to abuse it.

You think this guy didn't do it?
You think it wasn't Dylan Roof in that black church?
You think there's a chance Norway has the wrong guy locked up?

Bull fucking shit.
There are plenty of cases where we know for certain we have the right guy.
Sounds like Pennsylvania (or federal?) has a good check and balance in place, where jurors have to unanimously choose the death penalty as an additional decision besides guilt, w/ it defaulting to life in prison otherwise. That's the level where you should have the even higher level of absolute certainty vs. normal convictions, just like how the standard for guilt is lower in civil cases than criminal.

When the Switch launched, it had almost nothing for a library, even compared to most console launches. BotW basically single-handedly sold the console.
Wii U was already getting sales and had a solid library. The idea that people would buy a full price Switch just for BotW but not a marked down Wii U w/ at least a few other games you'd want in order to play it makes no sense.
But yeah, whatever. Nintendo basically gave up on the console by 2015, so it was never going to be given a chance. Re-selling all the Wii U shit a 2nd time by porting it to the Switch was more profitable.

Pressure retailers to limit quantity to 1 and make it harder to spam-buy. But yeah, capitalism....so that won't happen.

New console is long overdue, should've launched it as the only console w/ TotK to get people to transition to it immediately.
As long as it's more powerful than PS4 when docked and BC w/ switch games, and...isn't a pain in the ass to code for by 3rd parties...., it'll succeed if they actually offer some good exclusives in the first year.
I still maintain Wii U could've turned things around if they didn't abandon the fucking console and delay BotW a year for Switch. In a reality where a Wii U was the only way to play BotW and it's in 2016, Wii U would sell.

These situations are alike in one way because you have a so-called vigilante acting with what they thought were justified reasons to shoot to kill.
In this case, the vigilante didn't shoot until he was being shot at (again, if his claims are true). Using lethal force to defend against lethal force is completely justified. Mind you, I don't own guns and want gun control measures passed. But expecting someone literally being shot at to not shoot back is ridiculous.
Also again...was the vigilantism right in the first place? actually fucking matters a lot. If this guy did steal his truck, I'm fine w/ him pursuing after him. He was actually wronged and responded in a reasonable way. (again, the shooting came after, supposedly b/c the thief escalated it)

Zimmerman was dead fucking wrong; Trayvon never committed any crimes in the first place. And HE is the one to shoot first against the other person.
So no, I don't think the cases have any relevant cross-over at all, unless it turns out the truck owner lied.

Exactly.

This is the type of situation that allowed George Zimmerman to get away with stalking and executing Trayvon Martin, only from all the evidence, Martin was merely walking around the neighborhood eating candy and talking on the phone to a girl like a normal teenage boy.

I'm generally opposed to vigilante "justice" because it's hard to get testimony from the deceased. Then to get a nice sympathetic "law and order" judge and jury isn't that hard in a state like Texas.

Again... if the dead guy did steal it AND pulled his gun first, I think the truck owner did nothing wrong. I just want the authorities to investigate it and verify he wasn't lying before I determine his innocence.
Just making sure that was clear, b/c it seemed like you were against his actions, even if it went down that way.

Zimmerman clearly was in the wrong. Trayvon did nothing wrong and was being stalked by a psycho racist w/ a gun. He stood his ground, got murdered for it, and the state let the murderer walk.
Trayvon and this situation are nothing alike.
Trayvon committed no crimes, let alone stealing directly from Zimmerman.
Trayvon wasn't armed with a lethal weapon, but his assailant was.
Zimmerman had no fucking justification for anything he did, and even had the authorities on the phone telling him to back the fuck off.

This is the "detached from reality" part I was talking about

"Just insure it" has to be a meme at this point. Basic car insurance, which most people have (and can barely afford) doesn't even cover it being stolen. You typically need more expensive comprehensive coverage. Which again, a lot of people might not be able to afford.

And you know even if you DO get it, those companies are going to do their damndest to rate your car's value the lowest they can.

Bare minimum you're losing 5 figures of value out of this unless your car was a junker
This. Even IF you have insurance for theft, you still probably have a hefty deductible, they'll undervalue your vehicle, then jack your premiums up.
Having your car/truck stolen would be financially ruinous for most middle class and poor Americans, and it's pretty ivory tower level of callous to just dismiss those concerns.

It's basically right in line w/ the rise in prominence of dating apps, especially ones like Tinder where looks is all that matters.
There's been OK Cupid and other sites doing surveys where women find 80% of men to be "below average" and how utterly massively skewed matches received are for men vs. women. Seems like dating has turned into feast or famine for men. I'm glad I'm out.

"Data from the General Social survey indicates that around 23% of men aged 18-30 reported abstaining from sex in the past year. The percentage of young men abstaining increased from 10% in 2008 to 28% in 2018, while women reported slightly better numbers."

Suspected factors seem to be prolonged living at home, influence of social media, video games and other distractions. All this goes hand in hand with the "rise of the alpha male" influencers like Tate. What worries me most is that a lot of them resent this and are turning to misogynists that lay all the blame on women instead of trying to help themselves. All these kids that go and spend money on those only sites and them complain they dont want a girl with "high body count". Well guess what, NOBODY wants a person that doesnt take care of themselves, plays video games all day. Sure its more complicated than that, and the actual economy also plays a big part. Hard to feel confident when you dont have a decent paying job, have no place to yourself at a later age or just no positive outlook for the future. But first of all...work on yourselves before blaming women.

"Distractions"? What a bunch of bull shit. The distractions are the result of the dudes not being able to get a partner, not the cause.
And yeah, the pick up artist grifters are disgusting, preying upon guys who are miserable and desperate and filling their heads w/ that shit.

I think raising gas taxes would be more sensible, at least that'd push commercial vehicles towards adopting EV options where available.
But in general I'm wary of imposing higher transit costs on business, based on past experiences and how eager they are to have an excuse to write a blank check for what they claim higher prices is costing them.... Thank god DeSatan is stupid.

EDIT: Also, DeSatan is just an awful choice for all the establishment anti-Trump donors. Because he's not anti-Trump, he's Great Value Brand Trump. They need an actual business-friendly centrist that's charismatic, which DeSatan categorically is not.

Instead of tweets, they're now called X-Communications. Or XComs for short.

First date should be free (walk in the park, Netflix and chill, etc...) or cheap (meet for drinks). That's the only way to navigate around the hypocrisy of feminism and not be a "foodie call".
If meeting up for drinks, get there early and pay for yours before she gets there. Then if it's an instant catastrophe (she looks completely different from her picture; she's rude/drunk/abrasive from the start; etc...) you can just bail immediately. Otherwise, you can buy her one drink and get to know her, minimal investment.

I didn't watch the video, and I haven't been on a "first date" in literally 20 years, but I though the new tradition was whoever asked is the one that pays?
That's just the new meta for "man always pays". It's a cop out. Women almost never ask the guy out, they'll just "send signals" to get him to ask her out.

I check Facebook like twice a year and mostly still have it out of inertia. I have it linked to an email address I specifically use for sign ups that generate a lot of spam emails, so I can in turn just ignore all of it.
A few days ago on my main, actual email address that I use for professional contacts, resume, etc... I got a suspicious email sending me a "Facebook recovery code" I never asked for. Hell, it's been like over half a year since I went there. It was from [email protected] and wanted me to click a link to "let us know" if I didn't request a recovery code. It looked like a phishing attempt, honestly.
Looking into it, apparently this is a legit facebook email account, so I clicked it to let them know I didn't request it.
Ever since then, all the stupid "person on your friends list posted an update!" emails that used to go to the spam email address I had my FB account connected to are popping up in my real email inbox.
I wasn't even sure if I ever gave FB my real email (maybe I did, fuck if I know?) so I tried going on FB to check and... my password didn't work. I clicked "forgot password" and it pops up:

Youre Temporarily Blocked

It looks like you were misusing this feature by going too fast. Youve been temporarily blocked from using it.
If you think this doesn't go against our Community Standards let us know.

The fuck? Other than clicking to let them know I didn't request a recovery code, this has been the sum total of all my FB activity in the past 6+ months. Was I hacked or something? Or is it some ploy by FB to dupe me into being more active?

Does being a Blue Mage require being attacked with / affected by the spells I choose?

This is absolutely something, along with everything becoming a service and micro transactions in physical products like cars that should NEVER be accepted.

One of the few primary benefits of capitalism is that we're supposed to own a bunch of variably useful stuff. Now, we don't even get the stuff, just a digital license and a chance to keep paying indefinitely without being arrested.
The oligarchs that control the world realized they can combine the absolute worst aspects of both capitalism and communism into one hideous Frankenstein endless money machine.

What's next!? Sony deserves to lose against Microsoft
MS doesn't seem any better on the censorship front, unfortunately.
All we have left is Nintendo and PC. And Nintendo is an actual family-friendly console, so it's inevitable they'll eventually crack down on stuff again.

dancing_cactuar posted...
Literally "Rules for thee but not for me".

Fucking told you that the holy rays of light Sony employed in anime games would trickle to different forms of censorship, I was laughed at for muh slippery slope, but now we got games where they're censoring violence and drug/alcohol use in M rated games.

NeonTentacles posted...
So basically Sony is only okay with it if Sony does it and no one else?

Their "policy" is that the Japanese and indie games need to be kid-friendly, even when M-rated. Even as western AAA games and their own games have outright sex, drugs, straight up murder, and more. And they'll allow FIFA games rated E for everyone to have gambling (loot boxes).
I say "policy" in quotes because they've never released an actual official policy on censorship, they're too fucking cowardly and snakes to ever actually put out something in writing that could be examined and critiqued.

SpiritSephiroth posted...
Its funny how Sony allows a full on fucking sex scene from the Last of Us 2, but everything else that isn't a heavy hitter gets censored.

Actual hypocrites.

I remember when they started turning it into the Censorstation. There is no way to contact Sony to complain, so when they put out a video on parental controls for PS4, people took to the youtube comment section to let them have it and ask why the censorship was necessary if this exists. They kept taking the video down and re-uploading it to purge the negative comments and down votes, over and over.
That's also the first time I encountered youtube censorship, I had to say stuff like "sense of ship" to get my comment to actually post and not be shadow banned (it'd look like it would, but I'd go in private on another browser and it would not be there).
Ever since then, my youtube account seems to be perma-flagged as a spammer or something and I have to self-censor a shit load of words, including innocuous stuff like "video", "link", etc... or else it'll fake-post but not actually post.

In conclusion: fuck Sony

Especially in cars.

Leather seats absolutely nuke your skin in the summer and then they barely warm up from your body heat in the winter, like sitting on an ice block. They cost more money and they're harder to repair.

Screw leather seats

Strong agree, and it's frustrating how most people I've talked to about it are pro-leather. How can you possibly like them? Cloth is superior in every conceivable way, AND cheaper!
