Nice!

I have the entire DVD collection. Didn't know about a Blu-Ray release. I know they included Ryo, Rowen, and I think Kayura in some sort of mobile game of Langrisser.

It's my favorite anime of all time, featuring my favorite song of all time (Samurai Heart) by my favorite singer of all time (Hiroko Moriguchi).

Guess where my username is from. :)
I still want to get replicas of all 9 Ronin and Warlord weapons at some point, it's always been one of my dreams. Dais's will probably require some robotics/AI to work properly, lol

After 9/11, he had a (grotesquely unearned) mantle as "America's Mayor" and was beloved. He could've grifted that into a lifetime of six-figure public speeches and being the figurehead CEO at bogus security firms for decades, while maintaining the public's general fondness for him and never getting taken to task for all the shit bag things he did pre-9/11.

He threw all of that away for a doomed presidential run and then to be an unpaid Trumpeteer and probably end up in jail as the entire public turns against and hates him, including other Trumpers.

Voted yes, but I use toilet paper itself instead. The covers seem way thinner/flimsier than all but the cheapest single ply TP, and never seem to be sized right for the elongated public toilets.

And covering the seat with toilet paper? That may even make things worse. Placing pieces of toilet paper around the seat as an impromptu cover only increases the surface area for germs to multiply on, as Raymond Martin, a director with the British Toilet Association, told Buzzfeed. That makes it "considerably less hygienic," he said. (And toilet plumes may have blasted fecal matter onto the toilet paper anyway.)

The world of chess has been rocked by a cheating scandal after a man entered a womens tournament in Kenya disguised as a female.

The Kenya Open Chess Championship is a keenly-contested annual event that sees most of the leading players in Africa competing, as well as top exponents from around the world.

Despite gaining little press coverage overseas during its lifetime the furore over Millicent Awours participation in Nairobi ensured it made headlines across the world.

Shrouded from head to toe in a burka and wearing glasses, the unknown Awour didnt arouse any suspicion at first, but once she started beating high-class opponents, including former national champion Gloria Jumba and top Ugandan player Ampaira Shakira, the alarm bells started to ring, with ultimately a pair of shoes giving her away.

Stanley Omondi, who had registered to play as Millicent Awour in the competition, was finally rumbled by officials, although bizarrely they let him carry on until the fourth round afraid they may be criticised and accused of profiling by onlookers because of the religious garb he was wearing.

Of the top 100 chess players, only 1 is a woman, if I recall correctly.

Then it got to the part where he himself had previously beaten an innocent victim to death and got a cupcake prison sentence for it and it's like, "wait...this was karma?"

Yeah, he should've been in prison a lot longer, which would've kept both him and his latest victim alive. And unless the mob knew exactly who he was, they were not justified at all to beat him to death in that situation. But good luck getting a jury to unanimously convict the mob, given the dude's past.

"Means tested", my ass.
Those are higher income limits than the stimulus checks required!

But I'll ask once more... what if instead of this plan, they just gave out a stimulus check to everyone earning the median income or less (with lower tier amounts for higher incomes, up to 2x the median income)? You could then spend that money to pay down student loans, go to college for the first time, or whatever the fuck else you wanted.
I just want one person to explain to me how such a plan would be "worse" or "unfair" compared to Biden's dual lawyer income grab bag giveaway extravaganza.

I love it when the truth leaks out from the student debt cancellation brigade.
Whether someone can pay it back or not doesn't matter to them, hence the utterly insane income caps like $250K.
If someone like me, who dutifully paid off my loans and feels like a sucker that others get them forgiven later, or someone who never went to college and went into a trade complains about how patently unfair it is, we're told we should just be happy for the ones who benefit or whatever.
When I ask, "why not a blanket stimulus check to everyone under X income?" that can be used on student loans, to go to college for the first time, or whatever else, the cancellation proponents NEVER have an answer.
Because they just want theirs, while gaslighting us and claiming we're the greedy ones...
Even if my middle class income was above the threshold for this blanket stimulus, I'd support it b/c at least then it'd be going to people who need the money the most

The first results of the study published over a year ago showed viral levels at up to 1.7 million times what would be considered worrisome in the United States or Europe. At those concentrations, swimmers and athletes who ingest just three teaspoons of water are almost certain to be infected with viruses that can cause stomach and respiratory illnesses and, more rarely, heart and brain inflammation although whether they actually fall ill depends on a series of factors including the strength of the individual's immune system.

In light of the AP's findings, Harwood had one piece of advice for travellers to Rio: "Don't put your head under water."
Swimmers who cannot heed that advice stand to ingest water through their mouth and nose and therefore risk "getting violently ill".

By 2014, Rio authorities had already given up on the cleanup.
Now they are just trying to keep the parts of the bay that Olympic sailors will traverse free from debris that in recent months has included floating refrigerators, couches and even corpses.
After decades of development, raw sewage, industrial waste and litter have poured in from a metropolitan area that is home to more than 11 million people.
While the shores are verdant and telegenic, and some people still use the bay for recreation, the water is so dirty that scientists and physicians warn that contact with it can lead to viral and bacterial infections.

Apple is already the richest and most evil company on earth, and Disney is an evil mega-conglomerate in its own right.
This would honestly be a nightmare scenario, and I'd HOPE that the government would fight to block it at least as hard as they did the recent MS merger.
But the U.S. has an odd history of holding Microsoft's feet to the fire regarding monopoly law and never Apple.

You'd think Iger would try to sell off Disney properties piecemeal to different bidders to maximize the money Disney gets, and that'd be better for the consumer than Apple and Disney just merging together. But sometimes it feels like CEOs do stuff that's less beneficial for the bottom line just to stick it to customers, as if that's more important.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-leicestershire-66165180

A social media influencer and her mother have been found guilty of murdering two men who died when their car was rammed off the road.

Saqib Hussain and Hashim Ijazuddin, both 21, died when the car "split in two" near Leicester in February 2022.

It happened after Mr Hussain threatened to reveal an affair he and Ansreen Bukhari had been having, jurors heard.

Mrs Bukhari, 46, and her influencer daughter Mahek Bukhari were convicted after 28 hours of deliberations.

The TikTok influencer, 24, and her mother, both from Tunstall in Stoke-on-Trent, broke down in tears as the jury's verdicts were read out.

During the trial, the jury at Leicester Crown Court - which heard that Mr Hussain had threatened to use sexually explicit material to expose the long-running affair - listened to a panicked 999 call he made in the moments before the crash.

The jurors also found fellow defendants Rekhan Karwan and Raees Jamal guilty of the men's murder. Natasha Akhtar, 23, from Birmingham, Ameer Jamal, 28, and Sanaf Gulamustafa, 23, both from Leicester, were cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter.

Co-accused Mohammed Patel, 21, from Leicester, was found not guilty of murder or manslaughter.

Mahek Bukhari - who has nearly 129,000 followers on TikTok where she posted about fashion and beauty - "set a trap" for Mr Hussain on the night he died, the three-month retrial heard.

Prosecutors said Mr Hussain, from Banbury in Oxfordshire, had been "lured" into meeting with the Bukharis on the pretence he would be given back 3,000 he said he had spent on taking his lover out during their relationship.

Instead, Mr Hussain and Mr Ijazuddin, who had driven his friend to the meeting in a Tesco car park in Hamilton in Leicester as a "favour", were ambushed and then chased by two cars.

The court was told Mr Ijazuddin's car split in two and caught fire after hitting a tree at the Six Hills junction on the A46, in the early hours of 11 February 2022.

Karwan, 29, from Leicester, and Jamal, 23, from Loughborough, were driving the vehicles used to pursue the victims.

In a 999 call made by front-seat passenger Mr Hussain moments before his death, he said their car was being "rammed off the road" by balaclava-wearing assailants in two pursuing cars.

In the call, a distressed Mr Hussain said: "There's guys following me, they have balaclavas on they're trying to ram me off the road.

"They're trying to kill me, I'm going to die please sir, I just need help. They're hitting the back of the car, really fast please I'm begging you. I'm going to die."

A scream was heard on the line before the call abruptly ended.

Before remanding the convicted defendants into custody, Judge Timothy Spencer KC said: "You know the sentence will be very serious." Sentencing is due to take place on 1 September.

Following the verdicts, Mr Hussain's family said he was a "much-loved young man" who was "kind, compassionate, caring and sensible".

His loved ones said they had been "shattered by this senseless act" and were still struggling to come to terms with the enormity of their loss.

In a statement, they said: "Saqib's death has brought so much sadness, not just to his family, but to the many people that knew him.

"We have hope and confidence that Saqib has found eternal rest with Our Lord, and that we will get to be with him again when we pass.

"We also pray that no family will have to go through our experience."

Mr Ijazuddin's relatives said he was the "superstar" of their family and their world had come "crashing down" after his death.

In a statement, they said: "Everyone who knew Hashim, loved him. His death is not just a massive loss to our family but also to our whole community.

"Hashim was a cheeky young man who was always smiling, a handsome man who was beautiful both on the inside and out.

"He would do anything for anyone, was very caring and had a very kind heart.

"Hashim would always put others first and wouldn't hesitate to help others if they needed it.

"On that tragic day, he was simply helping his friend and this resulted in his death.

"It has been extremely painful not only losing Hashim at such a young age but also in the circumstances in which we lost him."

After the verdicts, Det Insp Mark Parish of Leicestershire Police said: "This was a callous and cold-blooded attack which ultimately cost two men their lives.

"After setting Mr Hussain and Mr Ijazuddin up, chasing them at high speed and then ultimately ramming their car off the road, none of the defendants made any attempt to help the victims or to call for help.

"Instead, they drove on and then even drove back past the collision site."

Fucking vile, glad they got murder convictions, hopefully they will be in jail the rest of their lives.
The crash and fire were so bad, apparently they had to use dental records to ID the two victims....

If you think Calculus, especially Calculus I (derivatives) is a "weed out" class, you don't belong anywhere near STEM.
Calc II (integrals) is definitely hard, but still never saw it called a "weed out" class before.

Weed out classes are stuff like Organic Chemistry for chemistry and chemical engineers.
I was an electrical engineer and ours was Linear Circuit Theory. The professor would give exam problems that were extremely complex circuits that needed to be figured out in many steps, and if you made an error that carried over through the rest of the problem solving without going back to fix it, you got a 0 for it, even if everything else was right. A lot of the exams involved time management, knowing quickly which problems to bail on for later (if you have time) so you can at least get a couple done before the hour was up. He graded on a curve, but still every semester half would drop out while they could and half that remained would go on to fail.
Pretty sure every STEM major has at least one. Mechanical Engineering it might've been Thermodynamics, I forget...

I'm ok w/ the concept of weed out classes, I think it's important to get the people who aren't serious or capable enough out of the field early, before they've invested years into the degree (or keep getting passed when they shouldn't be and end up in a job they're not qualified for).
They seem to usually occur 2nd year, often 1st semester, in my experience. Which is fine, the first year in STEM is mostly math and science classes that would count towards any major's gen ed requirements you'd need to fill regardless, so you can switch to another major w/ little to no lost time/effort.
I know a bunch of people who switched from engineering to business after weed outs and said it was way easier. And probably are now making more money than me.

Sad that Schaal has the most votes

After enduring her "comedy" special, I'd vote her out even if we were allowed to keep all 4.

Shell probably get like 2 years that turns into 6 months and probation.

They picked the ONE case where the female teacher rapist will probably be dead in 10 years anyway to finally throw the book at her like they would a male teacher doing the same thing.
I'm sure it won't be 600 years, but they may actually give her a double-digits prison sentence this time, only b/c it's purely symbolic and won't actually matter.

I need to know what happened because at 14, youre not going to just allow this
You're disgusting and vile

EDIT:
Didn't notice this at first:

Skiles asked the judge to keep Nelson-Koch in jail until sentencing, but Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Richard Radcliffe released her with a GPS monitor until she is sentenced on Oct. 27.
Holy shit, the female privilege is unreal! A CONVICTED serial child rapist is STILL not in jail, and gets to remain free until the sentencing in a few months! I hate these fucking judges so damn much!

Agree

Coconut tastes good, but I hate the texture of the "coconut shavings"

Except oddly when it comes to Caramel Delights / Samoas / Coconut Dreams cookies. Maybe b/c they tend to be a lot softer / less crispy. But those cookies are amazing.

A society that has the death penalty is not a moral society. It's wrong in every circumstance.
I'm so thankful that the Nuremburg Trials weren't overseen by a bunch of Enclaves
Unfortunately, it appears the Enclaves are winning in modern times. If Putin were captured and sent to the Hague for his war crimes, he'd have zero chance of execution.
We've regressed so badly as a society.

Gotta love all of these, "The death penalty is awful, BUUUT...." posts. You're either for it, or against it. You don't pick and choose.
Yeah, I'm for it. But I agree it needs massive reforms. Death penalty should be an entirely separate trial after found guilty for especially heinous murder/torture with rigorous standards required to be met to 100% without any doubt prove guilt.
Death penalty cases should be extremely rare, only for shit like this case, Dylan Roof, Nicholas Cruz, etc... Where you can absolutely prove they did it and it was an especially heinous act or had a lot of victims.
There should also be an independent federal oversight board that can overturn a state's decision to execute if the proof isn't there and revoke their privilege of having the death penalty if they repeatedly try to abuse it w/ cases where it shouldn't apply.

This is federal.

Unfortunately that bastard Garland suspended federal executions indefinitely.

I'm so sick of fucking spineless liberals. It's why the right wing terrorists get away w/ everything. We need an attack dog, like Eliot Spitzer, again.
