according to public health experts. Seat covers do not stop germs, they said, and you're not likely to catch an infection from a toilet, anyway.

I don't because they don't work. I get that they make some people feel better but knowing they do nothing they seem a bit silly to me.

it's a placebo effect imo. the same reasoning that wearing a mask doesn't prevent someone from getting sick by somebody not wearing a mask.

i did when i was in public because i thought they mattered. but now that i know they're a pointless waste of resources, i won't use them anymore.

false. wearing an N-95 mask will absolutely help protect you from getting sick by someone not wearing a mask.

I didn't even know they were a thing until I saw them in videos online. I feel like this is an entirely American concept.

It at least protects me from coming into direct contact with the inevitable piss and shit smears you encounter in public restrooms.

Voted yes, but I use toilet paper itself instead. The covers seem way thinner/flimsier than all but the cheapest single ply TP, and never seem to be sized right for the elongated public toilets.

And covering the seat with toilet paper? That may even make things worse. Placing pieces of toilet paper around the seat as an impromptu cover only increases the surface area for germs to multiply on, as Raymond Martin, a director with the British Toilet Association, told Buzzfeed. That makes it "considerably less hygienic," he said. (And toilet plumes may have blasted fecal matter onto the toilet paper anyway.)

As someone in charge of keeping restrooms at a casino clean, seat cover use is interesting. Most of the people who use them are the ones who look like they haven't showered in a week. Maybe they don't want the seat to catch something from them, how considerate.

I just get some TP and give the seat a quick wipe down. That's good enough for me.
