I have a bachelors degree in business analytics. This job is an "analyst" title, the hiring manager does most of his analysis in Excel but that's not the only part of the role. I'd do stuff like make reports, brief the sales team or operations team about our recommendations, and do market research for examples. Well it starts at the character selection. Like 8 characters and all are the same skin tone but a black guy with a with a certain garb. Everyone's character description is pretty neutral except his which seems to say he's faithless and selfish. Then in the train conversation part there's some female objectification stuff. It might just be to show a character as disreputable, and any of the bits I noticed could be fine in isolation, it's just kinda how they built on me.

The game seems to take place in a proxy early 1900s Europe 'europa', which again is fine on its own, but can be a thing where someone wants to use Europe to make their setting "white people land" but don't actually know or care to represent any distinct aspect of a particular European region beyond that. Which is how the setting feels to me, there's proxies mentioned that link roughly to Germany or the USSR based on the names, but not deeper than that.

Then there's this woodsman major enemy with an axe that (graphic content) has its penis exposed and after a couple turns it detaches from the body to attack you and leaves a gash behind. Yeah... like again this could just be a body horror thing and I'm aware the creator used nudity in the previous game as well, but the presentation raised my eyebrow.

I looked it up and apparently the Youtuber Super Eyepatch Wolf made some comments about perceived racist elements in the game, so I must not be the only person who's felt this.

Don't blogfaqs me on a topic about a VIDEO GAME dammit

This game is overwhelmingly positive on steam so my opinion is contrarian it seems.

But like, holy shit the game is tedious. So it's a 2d jrpg-style game, I think made in RPGmaker. There's an option to "skip the prologue" but that actually only skips half the prologue. You still need to go through all the starting characters on the train talking to each other. This may be a portent of things to come.

You can only save at beds you find and apparently you can only save a handful of times before the game ends. In any case there's a lot of space between any beds, and it is very very easy to die. Also, looting barrels and crates and cupboards, anything you see, is very important, so a lot of tedious item checking gets lost any time you die.

The game's combat system is very unforgiving, and on top of that, while you can Run, that can just fail.

It's a turn based game and you can target body parts like VATS. Generally attacking the head kills, but if they have all their limbs they will probably miss. So the idea is to attack their arms to stop them from hurting you, and attack their legs to immobilize them so you can hit the head.

In practice you should still just Run and roll the die. If you try to follow the game's suggested battle tactic, you're not rewarded at all. Take one of the first enemies you can encounter: a mad villager with a rifle. They take several turns to try to shoot you with the rifle, which is inaccurate but does around 30% of your health. So you attack the arms right? Well, when you do that they start using Tackle, an accurate move that does 30% of your health, every turn. Yeah, you actually just screwed yourself.

Health recovery seems to be the rarest item type and any enemy can do around 1/3rd of your HP so engaging any fight brings you much closer to game over, even if you kill the monster.

Well okay, plenty of horror games discourage direct combat, it's a shame the ideas in the battle system don't pan out but just avoid battles right? Enemies appear in the overworld like in Mario & Luigi or such RPGs. You can try to weave around them and you have a sprint meter to put distance between you. Buuut this is a grid-based 2d game so it is not elegant at all, and some enemies have really high speed. So it's easy to just get 'caught on the geometry' (a tile not being occupiable because of a sprite) and thus attacked.

On top of that, when you Run, the enemy is still right next to you in the overworld, and you get no i-frames, so if you accidentally try to walk their way as soon as you get out of combat then the fight instantly restarts. And whenever that happens, there's a significant chance you're about to lose all your game progress.

Maybe this is a "bro it gets good 12 hours in" game, but it is way too tedious to get that far. The amount of trial & error, randomness, and the punishment for mistakes that are easy to happen in the format, all means that very soon any idea that the game was scary dried up. I was just bored.

Bonus points, the game has weird vibes. Not like "unsettling horror game" vibes. More like "there is just enough weird word/design choices to make me believe the developer is a conservative/racist" vibes. Nothing explicit, but those are the vibes I get.

It is does not meet the standard of quality expected from a TED presentation. Not in terms of rigor of thought, originality, structure, or anything.

The description says he advocates for "replacing race-based policies with class-based ones". Don't have time to watch rn but that at least sounds like a feasible premise given the heavy correlation between the two in the United States on account of denying non-whites generational wealth opportunities. The question's just whether he has a lot of hard data and analysis to support his proposals

Black holes attract objects because of the magnitude of their mass. There's not actually any special property of the attraction of black holes. The difference between it and a star is density. If you compare a black hole and a star of equal mass, the star is way bigger. The black hole's "event horizon" where light can't escape, mapped onto the star, would be well into the interior of the star. And in the star, the spread out mass means that by the time you're at the equivalent of that event horizon, enough of the star's mass is now "above" you that the remaining mass attracting you would not be enough to create an event horizon (which is why the star doesn't collapse in on itself).

It'd be weird to be in a profession where everyone is on a last name basis. I did an internship on the corporate side of orthopedics, and you call everyone by their first name however far above you they may be. Well maybe that's a dramatized part of the show though
