It's prejudicial treatment based on your race, so yes, it is racist. That said, that's a largely harmless form of racism and boils down more to the need for those in customer service to make assumptions now and then based on what's most likely to make the customer happy. The fact of the matter is that most white customers would have been upset to get a whole fish, so delivering you a cleaned one when you didn't specify one way or the other is the easiest way to avoid that.

In a similar vein, I went to a Syrian ice cream (booza) place once, and we were able to sample flavours before ordering. I tried the rose one, and the guy made a point of mentioning that it's a flavour that's popular in his culture, but less so elsewhere. As it happened, I'd had and liked rose-flavoured stuff before, so it was exactly what I expected and I ended up ordering that (along with a scoop of hazelnut, at his recommendation, which was fantastic). I very much doubt he would have given any sort of disclaimer before giving it to a middle-eastern person, but because I'm about as coloured as a new colouring book, he wanted to make sure I wasn't surprised by it and/or didn't think less of the shop in general if I didn't like it. He also seemed pretty thrilled that I liked it as much as I did, but that could also have been that we went to an ice cream shop in late October and he was bored out of his skull before we walked in.

I mostly use mine for making crispy tofu or cooking frozen chicken strips and potato wedges. As much as it's a pretty niche appliance, it's quite a bit faster, more efficient, and does a better job than using the oven for the same jobs, so I'm a fan (pun not intended), and I have also had some luck experimenting with air fryer variants of what would normally be deep fryer recipes (like pakoras). I've got a Ninja AF101C, which is a good size for two people, but you may want something larger if you want to cook for more or cook multiple servings at a time.

Definitely get yourself an oil spray bottle to go with it, though, if you don't buy one that comes with one (I don't know if any do). For some things, you can get away with just tossing them in oil, but for others you'll have to spray it on to get the coverage you need.

Ah yes, the US, the country where it is a privilege, honour and your right to be screwed over by your boss.

It's more that commuting is a decision you make based on your own financial preferences and not something your job forces on you. In reality, it can effectively be forced if the job doesn't pay enough to live nearby (which is why I think minimum wage for a job should be defined algorithmically based on the median cost of living within ~30 minutes of it, rather than a flat value), but that's still something you decide whether or not you're okay with when you take the job. I don't believe it's normal anywhere for an employer to pay their employees who live further away more than employees in the same position that live closer.

By contrast, travel reimbursement is for trips that are out of the ordinary, which you can't necessarily plan for and by which you would be inconvenienced if you had to pay out of pocket. Reimbursing that is quite common for any employer that isn't garbage, since that's the job requiring you to travel. In the rare case you aren't able to charge travel expenses, it'll be because frequent travel was presented up-front as one of the requirements of the job and your salary has already been adjusted to cover it.

Yeah, from the programming side of things, Minecraft is an absolute mess. That's kind of to be expected, given that it was a bunch of amateurs just working in the only language they knew only to have their little project blow up into one of the biggest games ever.

Yellow posted...
The mods for Minecraft are not optimized well because they aren't given access to the source code, only a few hooks they've salvaged. That's the reason they have such terrible performance, it's not exactly because of their technical prowess.

Part of it is also that they're just doing things base Minecraft was never meant to do. Adding new dimensions will inevitably take up a bunch of extra space because you're adding another map file, and the base game was never designed to keep hundreds of chunks loaded at once like you need to do if you've got factory mods processing things in chunks that you aren't occupying. That's always going to result in a significantly increased technical load, no matter how well-optimized the base game is.

Of course, if the base game is better optimized so it doesn't use much processing power, using 10 times more than that is less of a problem. Generally, though, unlike Factorio and the like, Minecraft just isn't designed around having stuff happen without the player being present. Fixing that is not a small feat.

And really, if you do want to make it radically different, such as turning it into an rpg with a magic system, there are countless mods to help with that. To officially try to take it in one such direction at the expense of any other option would just result in a game that fewer people would enjoy compared to the basic blank slate the game provides as-is. As such, updates are going to be mostly focused on providing new environments to explore and materials to build with, rather than anything fundamentally game-changing. If that's what you want, get into modding.

They will unless there's a radical shift in the socio-economic and cultural norms of his home district. Because that's how voting patterns work.

There's been a pretty radical shift in the country's politics at the federal level, particularly around the Supreme Court's shenanigans. His home district may not have changed radically, but the current political state of the country may be enough to motivate many of his neighbours who would previously have stayed home because they didn't feel they had a chance at upsetting the status quo to get out and do what they can to change it. Pair that with those who would vote for the status quo staying home because they think it's safe, and you've got a recipe for some surprising upsets.

Is it likely? Not necessarily. There are some districts that are indeed so deeply entrenched in political tradition that upsets are all but impossible. But in many districts it's a whole lot more possible than some might like to think, and given that this is a very high-stakes midterm, taking an hour to try to make sure it doesn't happen isn't the worst idea.

Kamiya's response is toddler behavior no better than the knee-jerk collective tantrum from those rushing to Taylor's defense without waiting for more information and clarity on the situation.

Dude needs a handler he's too sensitive to be on social media, sticking his fingers in his ears and going "LALALA CAN'T HEAR YOU!"

No one deserves to be harassed but Kamiya could've handled himself better, especially when you consider he was right to defend himself from the initial allegations from Taylor. A savvy social media manager would've maybe put out a statement saying "Sorry Taylor feels this way, we enjoyed working with her and would've loved to have reached an agreement to keep her in the role blah blah blah" and maybe released some of that contract negotiation info to the press to alter the narrative. Pitching a fit and blocking people ain't winning any naysayers over sorry

Heck, even just "Taylor's allegations aren't the whole story, we're consulting with our legal team to determine how much we can disclose" would have done wonders and not made Platinum look like they were overwhelmingly the bad guys until they could make a formal statement and/or report on the whole situation.

Describing his response as anything other than an overly-defensive tantrum would be inaccurate, even if it turns out he wasn't actually in the wrong on the matter (or at least wasn't any more wrong than everyone else in the industry, which doesn't necessarily make it okay, but does make it unfair to single him out for it).

Is that when you run a magnet over a CRT and it messes up the screen? Used to do that with TVs.

The opposite, actually: Most CRT monitors had an option buried in their settings menu that would scramble the whole screen for a couple moments to get rid of that magnetic interference. It rarely made a noticeable difference to the image quality, but the process made it look like something was wrong if you didn't know what was going on (which of course was true of most people in school computer labs).

On a related note, one time, I helped my dad set up a new CRT TV for a family friend, and even though we'd set everything up correctly, the picture was still super distorted. We tried a bunch of different things before discovering that the "TV stand" she was using was actually a very large old speaker with a blanket draped over it. Once we removed the giant magnet from its immediate vicinity, the TV worked fine.

For most fields, you can't just find a job in whatever backwater town you can actually afford to live in, multi-hour commutes come with their own significant costs (costs that only stand to increase if more people start doing them, due to increased demand), and the vast majority of North American cities simply don't have the infrastructure to support that many people commuting. "Just move" is a hilariously myopic take on the issue that shows just how out of touch you are with how much the housing and job markets have changed since even just five years ago.

Use billions of dollars to literally never stop adding more dimensions.

You can do this with mods, but it very quickly runs into file size problems, which in turn increases load times and the need for extra chunkloading if you want to do things in multiple dimensions (which can significantly increase the processing load). It's a nifty idea, but from a technical standpoint it's generally going to be better to add new content to existing dimensions.

I imagine they stem from an era when having X hours of total voice acting in a game was a major selling point (and, conversely, a voice actor revealing that they did a smaller number of hours could hurt sales or undermine claims about game length), but I'm inclined to agree. If nothing else, it should be outright illegal to prohibit anyone from discussing how much they get offered/paid for a job. She also said she felt better about an hour after we were going to leave so its cool that she did something else. Never mind the fact we were leaving to go do other stuff before our reservation so we couldve just as easily still went to the dinner if she felt better an hour later.

Translation: She never actually felt sick and she just wanted to make you jealous by hanging out with somebody she knows you think she's interested in. Which backfired on her because it just pissed you off instead of making you jealous, and now she's pissy about that. That's not something you should feel obligated to put up with.

I feel like file explorer tabs aren't that useful. The vast majority of the time I have multiple explorer windows open, it's to transfer files between them, which I'd still need a separate window for.

okay?

"It's Halloween! That means you shouldn't care about all your friends and family that were murdered by the person because somebody feels like dressing up as them!"

And the fact that people are repulsed by it means its a great scary costume. Its what Halloweens all about kids

By that logic, dressing up as Hitler is a good idea.

i didn't with the 2nd one, but the first one is filled over the top, carefully, with surface tension

It shouldn't be more than half full. If you filled it that full, there's a good chance that there's some on the outside that's attracting them (and it will have evaporated and concentrated more than what's inside, so it'll be more attractive than the trap). That and a small drop of dish soap is all it takes.

You should probably tell her why you're annoyed, rather than trying to be coy about it. You're not wrong to be upset, but if she genuinely doesn't understand why, then you are in the wrong to keep stewing on it instead of telling her.

Now, by the sounds of things, she probably will think you're wrong to be upset, in which case she's being the asshole and you should feel free to respond accordingly.

A splash of milk per egg, salt, pepper, and hot sauce all mixed up before they go in the pan. Sometimes, I'll leave out the hot sauce and do garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and a pinch of cayenne instead, but the hot sauce is easier. If I'm feeling fancy, I'll sautee up some mix of onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms cook the eggs in the same pan, then add cheddar, but that's way more involved than my usual approach.
