Not saying this in the game's defense, because it has always looked like a shoddy mishmash of lesser parts to draw the broadest demographic of players into the game as possible. I just don't understand why anyone would have expected it to be good. The 4 player concept probably stretched out development time, making each character as unique as possible in the cookie-cutter class system they made, and the logistics of having a multiplayer live service game after making singleplayer Batman games for years was probably a big drain on the project too.

I'm about to go to sleep, but here's my take:

In the lead-up to the referendum, American media outlets like the Wall Street Journal and other financial review publications put out thinkpieces on why the new constitution would be bad. A big part of this was Chile being able to nationalise their own resources, producing and selling it at home and setting their own prices, which go against American interests.

There was a right-wing push to paint that constitutional reform in a negative light, if not at home then abroad, and that colored the narrative in a way that could have easily swayed the referendum within Chile. Maybe the government didn't have enough of a backbone or whatever word vomit you keep gargling up in whatever dogshit topics you keep posting. But it certainly isn't the only factor, and I find it more likely that the people who opposed the constitutional change and sought to manipulate the narrative - who tend to be right wing - are the people who let down the Chilean people in favour of getting fucked in the ass by some foreign oil magnate.

Saying that, the gist of my comment comes from you doubling down on this idea of a lazy, ineffective Leftist bourgeois who let their countrymen down with a combination of incompetence and malice. I find it hard to believe your take on anything when I've only ever seen you die on the stupidest fucking hills for the sake of lumping yourself with other drooling shitposters and prolonging stupid arguments, to the point of denying basic reality because acting like a chump is funny I guess.

Based on what I've seen, both of the coverage of the referendum and of your abysmal post history, I'm inclined to believe that the people responsible for the referendum going under are those with right-wing leanings. Maybe the government fucked up too - I'd be more inclined to entertain the thought if reading whatever "evidence" you had didn't make me feel like I'd sustained a concussion. David Hyde Pierce was in a relationship with a man for 27 years before they got married. Gay marriage was legalised and then quickly de-legalised, and it was during this period I think that he came out as gay to criticize the handling of same-sex marriage.

When it was finally legalised federally, he married his partner of 27 years. And they're still married.

Elvira has spent 20 years in a gay relationship with a woman. I don't remember the story, but I think she was her personal trainer and one thing led to another. She left her husband and began living with her girlfriend, and they've been together ever since. Just learned after looking her up that her middle name is Gay and that she's 71 now - and frankly, she's doing fantastic for 71. Good shit.

This one is more of a footnote, but Nathan Lane was similar to David Hyde Pierce - he'd been in a long-standing relationship since 2002, and he married his partner in 2015. I read this great story about him coming out to his mother, and she was like "I hate you, I'm ashamed to have a gay son", and he was like "love you too, ma". He went on to say that "once I got her head out of the oven, we were fine".

I'm glad to see as many enduring queer relationships as I have, but it always makes me a bit sad to think of Robert Reed. He was the guy who played Mike Brady in the Brady Bunch, and he was a closeted gay man his entire life until two weeks before he died.

He was bitter about the show because he thought the role of chipper, clean-cut, all-American dad Mike Brady was saccharine and that the show's plots were hollow, cheesy and shit. He would actually fight with the main producer and send him these long scathing creeds about how garbage the scripts were - but the producer in question has noted that when he went off like that, he was right. They would go back and improve the scripts based on Reed's complaints.

So he sounds like a pretty notorious asshole - people were apparently aware of his homosexuality and the pressure that that put on him, but it was also the sixties and if it ever came out, everyone on the Brady Bunch was out of a job. Robert Reed was also not a total monster, like other prominent character actors of the day - as a matter of fact, all six original Brady children have spoken highly of him during their lives.

Cindy's parents were going through a bad divorce during the show's run, and what Reed would do is he would take the kids fishing and out to see national parks and stuff - that sets off alarm bells when you think of adult men taking children who aren't theirs out on these big trips in the sixties, but he was a good man. He never took his anger out on the kids. He was gay, miserable, trapped in a role he hated and he lashed out because of it. But he never lashed out at the kids.

He kept in touch with Florence Henderson over the years, and it was her who he called with news of his terminal cancer. With two weeks to live, he called her so she could let the other actors know, and so she could perhaps speak about it. And she did - nowadays, we know about Robert Reed and some of his struggles as a queer man living in the sixties. We don't know a great deal, he was a very private man, but we know a fair bit.

The reason I think of Robert Reed when I think of these queer relationships is because I wonder if Robert Reed was ever happy like that. One of his lovers has come forward, but I don't think it was a recent one who cohabitated with him while he was dying. Was Robert Reed loved in the last few years of his life? Did he have that comfort and security?

I sure hope so. Nothing worse than watching something like "oh shit are they queer?" and then the last quarter of the show - if not the last episode - has one or both of them getting boyfriends.

Like there's something to say about female friendships with a strong unbreakable bond, the same way hot-blooded shonen friendships between guys doesn't necessarily mean they're fucking despite it being a popular meme. It's another thing entirely when you have these hugely intimate slice of life scenes with like slowdown and characters grabbing each other by the ass and having extremely gay framing, and then going "nope actually they like men lmao" because Gay People Are Icky.

I saw a video ages ago that explained the concept of L-Class or L-School, I forget the exact terminology, where it isn't seen as strange for Japanese girls to be that intimate and touchy-feely with each other as teenagers. The thing is, that acceptance isn't unconditional - they're expected to grow out of it and marry men. That idea, I think, is what's behind a lot of yuri-baiting - it's natural for teenagers to be that close, but they're not actually in love and they're going to marry men. That's the framing of that sort of relationship in broader Japanese society.

That's an explanation, but it's not an excuse. It really does come off as having your cake and eating it too. Sometimes two men or two women make a better pairing than a straight couple. Sometimes it's a more interesting and organic story beat to have the two characters fall in love after years of being close friends, realising after a string of bad opposite sex relationships that they had love right there all along. Shit, even if they don't get together, it'd be so refreshing if even one of them was revealed as queer. There's untapped potential in coming out stories, in making dream pairings that wouldn't have flown 20 years ago flourish.

This is a good first step. Now other companies have to stop being pussies and get some queer relationships going.

You can probably tell by the volume and tone of the poll answers that I was expecting a more negative reaction to the idea of getting crushes. Like I do think this is something that most people leave behind as they get older and come into their own as people. I feel like crushes are a sign of being socially stunted, being unable to adapt to this ideal of independence and maturity that comes with being an adult - said as someone typing this on a video game message board well into his twenties, to other twenty/thirty-somethings who also use the boards.

That being said, I made this topic because I'm having a bit of a crisis - I'm crushing on someone I know who's way out of my league, which has never not ended in disaster.

I relate to you guys who feel negatively about crushes, because yeah it gets in the way of everything and it has a real chance of impacting the different relationships in your life. When I find the person who thought of crushes as a concept, I'm putting together a hit squad of CEmen to go covert and teach that son of a bitch a lesson in pain.
