https://www.justjared.com/2022/10/14/amsterdam-movie-will-lose-a-massive-amount-of-money-amid-disappointing-box-office-performance/

The new movie Amsterdam has been in theaters for just one week, but its already been deemed a massive failure due to its disappointing box office performance.

David O. Russells latest movie received poor reviews from critics and only has a 33% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which definitely didnt help word of mouth.

Unfortunately the star power wasnt enough to get fans into movie theater seats.

The movie reportedly cost $80 million to produce and an estimated $70 million to promote, though the studio is not going to make anywhere near that amount from ticket sales.

Deadline reports that the movie will likely end its box office run with a global total of $35 million.

Its estimated that the film is going to lose about $100 million when you add in other forms of revenue for the movie, like streaming and digital sales.

The movie John Carter is considered to be one of the biggest box office bombs with an estimated loss of nearly $200 million.

Half the theater walked out at around 20 minutes, myself included.

It really is AWFUL.

It's a mess. Nothing made sense, convoluted character interactions all over the place, it's a really hard to follow film.

Edit. I mean to say they started walking out after 20 minutes. I think I lasted like 50 minutes or something, more than 30 people had left. It was almost full, it was on release day.

Honestly, I got free tickets cause I'm on the loyal customer program, I was kinda hungry and I had wasted almost an hour watching something that I didn't even know what was going on.

I said fuck it, and I was right.

Edit: First time I walk out of a movie, and I go at least once a week, I've seen all kinds of turds lmao.

It wasn't that John Carter was disliked, it's that it was horribly promoted. It's actually regarded as one of the worst marketing blunders in film history.

The marketing for this movie has been atrocious. Not that they aren't marketing it, but the actual trailers are garbage. It's just a visual dump of all the actors in the movie. You can't even tell what it's about and it has the nerve to do a "based on true events" thing. What events?! All these actors getting in a room and hamming it up? Lol

Also DOR is a sack of shit. He deserves failure.

I've said it before but it is a well documented fact that the age of the Movie Star is dead. That era where an actor could make a movie successful, regardless of the concept, just simply doesn't exist anymore and hasn't for several years.

So in their infinite wisdom the producers advertised this movie by simply listing the actors involved without actually showing what the movie was about.

Top Gun is exactly the kind of movie that does well. A gigantic budget, visual spectacle that you "have to experience on the big screen".

Don't get me wrong, Tom Cruise being in it helped, but this was gonna do well regardless.

In the era of Movie Stars something like the Mummy would have been a hit, just because Tom Cruise was in it.
