I don't have internet so I couldn't play with anyone even if I wanted to, but if anyone wants to play at some point in the future I'm playing on Switch.

When this first broke, I made a post about how people don't appreciate VA work and would take the first opportunity to throw voice actors under the bus. I specifically mentioned how people grandstanded about David Hayter, but demonized John DiMaggio for trying to get union wages to reprise the voice of Bender. This was in service of Helena Taylor's original story of being offered 4k to reprise the role of Bayonetta - to which people were saying "what an entitled bitch, 4k for two hours of VA work is more than adequate". Someone later said that this whole scandal moved the VA payment conversation back years, and I agree with that - like I agree with her getting residuals, as well as any VA known for portraying the same iconic character over a long lifespan. Now that conversation is gonna be mired down by "remember when Helena Taylor lied to people to get more money", and it's going to make other VAs fighting for better compensation look bad in comparison.

Since then, it's come out that Platinum offered her more, and that she actively misled people in her statements which is a scumbag move. But I still wanted to see how this was gonna play out, because when the news is fresh and dozens of people are throwing out the most incendiary takes possible, it's next to impossible to actually sift out what's real and what isn't. When people were calling her a TERF for example, I wasn't sure whether they were going off of an actual statement or series of behaviours, or if people were extrapolating that from some sort of political agnosticism. Since making that post explicitly defending her, I've disengaged and let this all fold out so I could make the most informed decision on the matter.

And at the end of the day, I'm extremely disappointed. Helena Taylor has doubled down on lies, she's tanking her career by shilling for right-wing shit, and now she's promoting anti-abortion charities.

I want to restate that VA work is significantly underappreciated and misunderstood by the general public, and that voice actors deserve more credit, better compensation and union rates that they can live on. There is a serious problem with voice actors working for short-term gigs that they can barely live on, and the big American VA hub cities - Austin and Los Angeles - have cost-of-living expenses that are untenable for voicework. I don't want that message to be lost in all of this horseshit about Helena Taylor.

But I do want to rescind my support for her, which I expressed at the start of this news cycle before it became clear that she was lying and that she was about to show her true colours and tank her career. I'm disappointed and unhappy, and I hope Jennifer Hale's Bayonetta is a good fit because I don't want this shitshow to spill any further out than tarnishing Taylor's name and reputation.

I was being a bit facetious, but I recently got a Tenders Dipping Box with a tub of gravy in the middle and gravy-dipped tenders were a highlight of my entire month.

Maybe you don't like the Elton John remixes that have come out - that's fine, but the songs they're sampling are fantastic. Not just Rocket Man and Tiny Dancer, the songs they're pulling the verses from.

Cold Cold Heart is from Sacrifice, which I can't post because my internet is shitting itself and the YouTube app won't work. Kiss the Bride is another song that they used for that song. The verses of the Tiny Dancer remix is from The One, which is just outright one of his most underrated songs.

So the next time they do one of these? They'd better use Did He Shoot Her. That, or Burning Buildings.

I think the intention of Australia's placement on this list is that Australians honestly aren't depicted in a lot of global media? Like you guys know us for Mel Gibson and Crocodile Dundee, maybe Margot Robbie. A lot of our cultural exports, ala Mad Max, are of a similar flavor too.

Now granted, Blizzard's depiction of Australia seems to be of a Mad-Maxian hellscape with Roadhog and the other guy clearly being like apocalypse raiders. Not exactly the most nuanced or original depiction of Australians, which makes this diversity ranking even funnier alongside the fact that they're putting white Australians up there with PoC. White Australians/colonial settlers from Britain enacted genocide against our first nations people, and the Australia of today is a product of that genocide. Our government were still stealing indigenous children well into the 20th century. If this listing was for indigenous Australians, that'd be one thing - but if they're gonna put Americans and Brits down the bottom for the rape and genocide of native peoples over the course of centuries, white Australians deserve the same ranking.

On one hand, I think their ranking of Australians is due to Aussies being underrepresented in mainstream media. That's an aspect of diversity - seeing cultures and people you don't usually see. That's hampered by the fact that they just go whole-hog on the Mad Max pastiche, which is one of like three stereotypical ways to depict Australia. It's senseless. And if we're talking about race relations, Australia has a history of racism and genocide right alongside America and Britain. In short, the diversity rankings regarding Aussies make no sense on a race level or on a depiction level, because as far as I can tell they've only been making white Australian characters, and they're broad stereotypes of Mad Max-type apocalypse raiders which is one of the few shoehorned depictions of Australians in popular media.

heck did you dislike about 3, i was floored by the upgrade to pokemon that looked like they should, with full colors and everything.

So keep in mind that Emerald is my favorite Pokemon game. I have played that game more than any other Pokemon game, I adore gen 3.

That being said?

Gen 3 rehashes pokemon designs to make up for the fact that Hoenn wasn't compatible with Kanto or Johto. Gulpin and Swalot feel like dollar store knockoffs of Grimer and Muk. Wurmple was a unique take on Caterpie and Weedle, looking back, but it's still eerily reminiscent. Tailow and Swellow are a worse Pidgey evolutionary line, Skitty is a Meowth clone, Aron is reminiscent of the Rhyhorn line. Corphish is a less cool Krabby. Feebas is explicitly a Magikarp clone, with the only draw being how stupidly difficult they are to catch.

This was the first gen to have explicit Pikachu clones with Plusle and Minun - "pikablu" was a fan thing, I never saw the resemblance between Pikachu and Marill - there are a bunch of one-off gimmick Pokemon like Relicanth, Solrock/Lunatone, Spinda and Castform, and this is arguably where Mythical Pokemon began with the Regis and Lati@s. I personally miss when legendaries were special, one of a kind beings - that does make me sound like a genwunner old man, but that's how I feel.

In hindsight, this set up a lot of the later Pokemon "formula". At the time, the similarities made it feel kind of hokey and cheap after 1 and 2 had made such an impact with their fun creature designs.

And I say that with the acknowledgement that some of gen 3's Pokemon are my favorite ones ever. The Trapinch evolutionary line is GOATed, ground-type and flying-type is a broken type match-up in gen 3 and I just love the little trapinch fella. Spheal is fucking adorable. I love Chimecho and Duskull and Absol, I love the Ralts line, I love Glalie, Luvdisk and the Salamence/Metagross evo lines. Aron is a great Pokemon, even if I compared that line to Rhyhorn and Rhydon earlier. I also love the smooth, fast pace of the game, and while I'm sick of Pokemon stories being about saving the world, there was a novelty to it in this gen, especially with the two criminal groups you go against depending on which game you play. Emerald also went above and beyond in fusing both teams into a single story and fleshing the conflict out with new dialogue and events.

There are still a lot of conspicuous similarities that made this new gen hard to pick up initially, and I get why people would dislike Hoenn after the first two gens. It's different, even the parts that want to stay the same, and that can be hard to get used to.

Gen 4 was hugely popular at the time. It's hate is entirely revisionist. It's still a very popular gen, people love the pokemon, characters, and features.

The hate has always been there. Slower pace, more narrative fluff leading to what feels like more railroading than previous games, and mechanics like Honey not being super great.

I particularly dislike the slower pace. Platinum was the last Pokemon game I got before SwSh, and to this day, the parts of that game I like the most are the Underground and buying your own villa. The actual story and the pace of the game fucking blew, and when I eventually played Brilliant Diamond, I felt the exact same.

It's a popular gen, absolutely. It has a lot of fans, and I don't begrudge them. But the hate for gen 4 has always been there - I've seen it ever since gen 4 happened, and frankly I don't really like Sinnoh either.

Looks really fun though. I've seen some screenshots of menus and stuff that remind me of God Hand. Jank as hell, but deeply nostalgic for the sixth-gen experience before everything was uber-polished and necessary for a score above 6/10.

When I was a kid, I stopped after series 5 because of my previously mentioned issues with Moffat's run. In the lead-up to Chibnall and Whitaker's run, I binged all 10 series, including five of them I had never seen before.

All I have to say is, good luck. I can't say a goddamn thing without spoiling something. Good fucking luck. though I hope, even if you don't enjoy it totally, you end up being okay with series 7A at the very least.

Honestly I loved the first few seasons of the revival and still do having seen them a couple times. After that it's a lot more mixed.

Oh, absolutely. Russell T. Davies made four great seasons of Who, I really didn't like how Grand and Epic and Invincible the show got with Moffat. If I hear the Doctor monologue about how amazing they are, capped off with "I am the Doctor", I'm gonna bite my own tongue off and choke to death.

Really liked series 7 though, and the Christmas Carol pastiche was a great special.

Yeah, the first season - outside of one really good two-parter - is budget as hell and super dated.

Let me guess, you saw Mickey get sucked into the wheelie bin.

I loved it. The only three downsides are that:

1: Thirteen and Yaz never got to kiss. It's in-character, especially after Legend of the Sea Devils, but the whole thing was so sad and I was hoping for something to take it over the top.

2: Dan didn't make a sneaky comeback and save the day. I was expecting him to show up at the last second and score a major save, but he didn't. This was mitigated by that great ending scene with the classic companions.

3: Thirteen won't get a Russell T. Davies-headed season, let alone episode. She was head and shoulders the best part about Chibnall's run. I'm excited for Tennant, but I would have adored at least one really fucking good RTD episode to justify her position as my second favourite revival-era Doctor. The fact that she's gone is so sad. I wanted her to have more time in the role, because she fucking OWNED.
