they essentially added a middleman to the standard food ordering process. Business don't want to take too much of a hit (they do), customers don't want too much of a hit (They have one), so the driver takes the biggest hit.

Doordash has successfully brainwashed this driver, and many more, into hating the wrong entity. Hating the customer, rather than doing something about their own circumstance.

the types of positions they'd do this to were CAD, IT, and coordinator roles. They generally kept sales stable, but i guess that makes sense because 6 of the 8ish salespeople were all family of the owners or management.

i worked for a company where that was standard operating procedure. Those of us who had been there long enough always got sad whenever the replacements were hired, and their soon-to-be-fired counterparts were lied to, promised a supervisory job, expanding the department, etc. They'd train them up, and then bam, out the door on their ass.

once i saw a guy cry. he was like a 40 year old man. it was a sad sight. one of the major factors i left that company, the shitty toxic culture that management would foster.
